Can be anything from selling or giving something away you shouldn't have. Buying something that sucked. Or a game you missed playing.
>>
I'll start with a couple.
Regret selling my Sega Genesis with multiple RPGs, all the Splatterhouses and a bad ass game called Red Zone for weed money 10 years ago.( $25)
>>
Biggest regret. Trying to hard to be an edgy teenager and shunning SNES for a hardcore Sega and all the blood.
( Mortal Kombat being censored pissed me off) For the first time , this week I played Super Metroid & Zelda. I'm 35. What a fucking great system.
>>
Gave away all my Nintendo powers so I could have a more " grown up room".
I had three years worth of awesome subscriptions.

Never owning or playing Metal Storm for NES. Still havent. Fuck.
>>
>>3287149
You can rebuy the Nintendo Powers, it's not a huge deal, they aren't really that collectible.

My biggest regret I guess was not buying more. I was busy fucking around at college when I could've been picking up SNES games for peanuts.
>>
I owned earthbound, smrpg, and chrono trigger on SNES and just lent/threw everything away. There were more casualties to my apathy but those ones are the most obvious mistakes. MMX2 as well.
>>
>>3287138

Her nipples must point straight at the ground, that's a shame.

Anyway, on topic: I regret the fact that I've never beaten a Zelda game, despite owning all of them except the DS games, Wind Waker, Oracle of Seasons, and the CDi games. They always bore me about halfway through and I don't know why. I suspect it's the lack of RPG elements, I just feel like Link doesn't progress enough as a character throughout his games. Sure you get new items and what not but it's never enough to keep me interested.
>>
Not picking up more games when the retro craze wasnt a thing, fuck collecting now its too expensive. But 5-6 years ago I got some really good deals. I shoulda got all my favorites then. Now I cant even get a cheap saturn controller.
>>
>>3287348
>fuck collecting now its too expensive

I'm getting tired of this meme. Just last summer I picked up Zelda II and Duck Tales for $5 each at a garage sale. The deals are still out there, you just have to look. I suspect most of you people who think retro games are too expensive are just going to your local retro game store, seeing the ebay prices and giving up on collecting and that is sad to me.
>>
>>3287138
Yeah getting involved with video games as a kid in the first lace.
It was my escape from reality and bad life which resulted in developing no social contacts with anyone for over 15 years and aspie behavior. But hey there is no going back so it is what it is
>>
>>3287352
Harder, not impossible. 1999-2005 any NES game was almost free range garbage to most, the same way VHS is right now. If you don't have the time to scrounge at flea markets, garage sales, and other places off the beaten path, collecting is easily 20x harder now than it was just six years ago. It's not an empty meme.
>>
>>3287437

Okay, maybe I was exaggerating by calling it a meme, but I still think the problem is overblown. Maybe the small city I'm in isn't as picked over as some larger cities out there but I don't need to invest much time at all to score good deals. I only go out hunting every other month or so and I always manage to find something cool at a great price.
>>
When I was 16 I traded almost entire collection of about 25 or so Sega Genesis games to a gas station for like 20 bucks for gas so that I could drive around some girl I used to have oneitis for who had already friendzoned me hard by then. I'm pretty sure I win the thread.
>>
>ask parents for pokemon blue for christmas
>they get me pokemon red instead

Literally ruined my entire childhood.
>>
>>3287903
>ask parents for any videogame for christmas
>they literally tell me to fuck off and get a job
I was 10.
>>

Is your name Eric Forman?
>>
>>3287917
No,Im not American.
>>
>>3287413
Don't blame the games. You just have poor social skills.
>>
When I was about 8 or so, I purchased Wind Waker over Super Metroid.
>>
>>3287448
Maybe in America it's still possible to find deals. If you live in Europe it's a whole different story. There are no games around to be found.
>>
>>3287921
sure if you say so
>>
>>3287937
He's right. Games never kept me from making friends. If anything, games brought my friends and I together.
>>
>>3287940
>call friends from school
>dad comes home
>kicks them out
>call friends next day
>they dont want to come ebcause my father was scary
>try again some time later
>same thing
>>
>>3287950
I'm not seeing how you having a shitty father is the fault of video games, anon.
>>
>>3287138
Back in the day we had one computer in my brothers room and there was no door.

So I offered to trade my entire N64 collection (4 controllers, 15 games, console, everything) for $50 so I could buy an inkjet printer so I could print up porn pictures to fap to privately.

The printer barely had any ink in it and died in under a few months. I'm so fucking bitter about this.
>>
>>3287951
see first post
>>
>>3287929
Even in america is getting a lot harder because of resellers buying everything up and selling on ebay.

So even when you can find things, people list them for ebay prices.
>>
>>3287969
You have a shitty father because you're autistic....?

Sold my entire video game collection that I had since I was 10 years old for drug money when I was in my early 20s. I had 30+ amazing super nintendo games, all the classics (F-zero, super mario all stars, mario paint, a link to the past etc etc) along with a pretty good NES collection. I regret it to this day

when i was seven i had the chance to buy kirby super star for snes, it was 20 dollars, i am 27 now.
i pleaded and pleaded with my mom's new girlfriend, telling her that she didn't understand how important it would be to buy this.
i hate her to this day, and i hope she dies a painful death.
i will never see a real life copy again.

When I went to uni I just brought my megadrive carts with me to save space, my parents chucked them in the shed and the roof collapsed during a particularly bad winter, they then ended up in the dump.

>>
>>3287448
For me ...going to the garage sales and goodwill stores hunting games is just as fun as playing them. It's like a little secret treasure adventure in my mind. I swear, when I find a rare game on a shelf for a dollar my brain releases endorphins and I cum in my pants

Trading three NES games for one at local pawn shop every month so I could have instant gratification instead of building a collection and working hard for a new game by doing chores or saving my allowance. And with no internet my decisions were based strictly on word ofouth or the label cover. Traded Mario 1-3 for fucking Nightmare on Elm street. Fuck me. And I always spent my weekly $5 allowance on MAD magazines.
>>
>>3287304
>Her nipples must point straight at the ground, that's a shame.

I just wanna know how her top stays on. Maybe she uses glue, like a lot of cosplayers.
>>
>>3288035
>$20 for Kirby Super Star in 1996

Woah, that was a good deal.
I guess SNES games were cheaper then because the N64 had just come out, but still...

I'm happy that your mother found someone though. I know it wasn't easy being gay in the 90's.

>>3287994
Never date someone who asks you to sell your possessions. It's never about the money, it's about control.
>>
>>3287138
I regret not buying more when stuff was so much cheaper. I only have 5-10 of the popular consoles and only a few of the less common ones that have really shot up in price. It's even worse with games. I only have a few thousand because I concentrated more on consoles. If I'd had a little more foresight I could be sitting on a collection worth a house instead of a car.
>>
>>3287138
Gave F-Zero, Mario Kart, and Turtles in Time to my younger cousins years ago.

Fuck.
>>
Was constantly borrowing money to buy games and missed out on a bunch of good shit. Before i had a real job.
Ended up selling just about every great snes game, and generic junk for about 300+ to some guy.
Trading shit in to funcoland.
>>
>>3287138
I sold all my consoles some time around 1996 thinking PC was enough. About 300 dollarydoos worth of stuff, Master Systems, Mega Drives/Mega CD, SNES's and a load of games.
The consoles I aquired to replace them after the turn of the century are in far, far worse condition than my original ones.
>>
I had Tombi 1 and 2 CIB. Sold them with some other games and my PS1 for alcohol
>>
>>3289051
>The consoles I aquired to replace them after the turn of the century are in far, far worse condition than my original ones.

Your original consoles, wherever they are, are in shit shape too and it's all your fault.
>>
>>3287138
When the PSX came out, my brother and I got rid of our SNES plus 26 games and additional controllers etc. to be able to afford the new system. It didn't take a year for me to regret that decision.

Later on, my brother sold a couple of our PSX games in order to have funds for some new stuff. Selling his/our stuff was okay, selling MY copy of Symphony of the Night wasn't. Fucking hell.
>>
>>3287950
Why didn't you go over to visit them then?

Selling Pokémon R/B/Y/Silver and not keeping at least one to finally play any game from the series on the actual console
>>
I'm surprised at so many common themes.

There's a lot to regret, but what sticks out most for me was my nes, which had roughly 50 games with it, multiple controllers, a powerglove, and other stuff that I can't even remember now because it's been 20+ years.

Sold it all to my parents friends for $50, just so I could "upgrade"... I believe I ended up buying a snes advantage(no clue what ended up happening to this), and a copy of final fantasy 2 on snes, a good game, no doubt, but definitely not a good trade.

Also, it's not retro, but otherwise quite pertinent; I loaned out my copy of Ninja gaiden on xbox, and get this, actually got it back a few weeks later! I know, right? Too bad it was HORRIBLY scratched, it looked like someone played air hockey with it minus the air.

Never loaned anything out after that.
>>
>>3287138

Traded EBgames my NES with about 20 games, including FF, Zelda, Dragon Quest, 1942,etc. Many of the games were boxed and had manuals.

Traded it away for Ape Escape. Great game, not worth it.

Damnit
>>

>>3289702

I had a similar experience growing up, except my dad didn't kick my friends out, he just tried putting them to work doing chores so they all left on their own. And of course when I wanted to go to their house, I couldn't, because chores. I suspect a lot of people who have trouble making friends as an adult can blame their parents.
>>
>>3290002

My biggest regret is now. Being in my mid thirties nostalgia had completely taken over me and I'm helpless against it. I'm seriously a video game addict. I just bought a new 3ds and have been buying up all the old ds and new ds games. Ive been buying every good deal I can find on amazon and Craigslist. I have every intention of playing them all but there are so many. Then I bought a NES mini with 9 great games for cheap. But now my new 3ds is collecting dust and I'm playing the SNES. Then I just saw a great deal for a N64. I feel this pressure to collect as much as I can now before everything climbs to triple digits for games. It's great having these games and systems but I feel the pressure ofy backlog staring at me and it feels more like a chore to finish all the games. And yet I still buy more games. Not to mention I have all these 1000 page novels I wanna read staring at me on my bookshelf. I feel over indulged and its giving me anxiety. Anyone else get what I'm saying? If so,how do you I kick this feeling so I can just enjoy one game at a time and relax?
>>
>>3287138
Let a junkie friend borrow my snes + genesis + cd...never saw them again.

I'm so stupid.
>>
>>3290290

Always been a bit of a chemical-phobe, got worse when I began taking adderall. Long story short, my new collection of about 30 games for sprayed with home defense (or something similar), so I gave them to a friend (I told him about it and that I was going to throw them away). I didn't have anything super rare in it, but seeing as how expensive even the most basic of carts is getting, it almost makes me sick to think about what was lost.
>>
>>3290319
Also, not quite retro but worth mentioning, I lent a kid in my dorm a copy of mgs 3 and the fucker dropped out over winter break, never to be seen again.
>>
>>3290280
>If so,how do you I kick this feeling so I can just enjoy one game at a time and relax?

Stop buying stuff and play/read what you already have. The good deals aren't going anywhere, stop telling yourself they are.
>>
>>3290319
>my new collection of about 30 games for sprayed with home defense (or something similar)

Is this even English?
>>
Some guy in the town over from me had two free non-working arcade machines, probably could have gotten them running easily. There was a 2 hour window from him posting them to me contacting him, and someone got in between there and said he'd pick 'em up tomorrow. Would've been there within minutes. Fuck.

I had my entire retro gaming setup in our living room and my wife's son sold everything for drug money. My collection was easily worth $17,000 dollars and I know he sold it all for a couple hundred.
>>
>>3290343
Should say "nes collection was sprayed".
>>
Had a super Nintendo with over 60 games, also had ps1, ps2, n64, Sega genesis, and GameCube with a lot of the best games of each system. I sold every bit of my collection because I developed a bad addiction problem and had just learned about emulation. My thought process was "why keep all these games when I can download them for free." I still kind of think this way, but damn I miss having my entire childhood of games. Also theres no way I can start collecting knowing I had so many gems.

Not jumping on the NES train sooner. I've pretty much required all my old games from my childhood Genesis but the ship has sailed for me on NES. It's a bummer for me because it was my first console. I had a good collection of like 30 games or so that is live to recover again.
>>
>>3290405
yea emulation is tempting. but having done both real hardware is far superior.
>>
>>3290446
>hardware is far superior

False. Emulation is superior in every way, including response time on modern multi-gigahertz PCs.
>>
Only one memorable regret: trading Final Fantasy II (i.e. IV) for NHL '97 and Desert Strike when I was 8.

More broadly, many regrettable "friendships" resulting in games mysteriously vanishing.

>>
>>3290729
Nah. Real retro gamers use the systems and the controllers. You appreciate the feeling and the games less when you don't pay for them and have no real investment. I know people are going to have a shit storm about this. I guess if you didn't own these systems to begin with and are a younger person it wouldn't matter. Having that old SNES controller in my hand makes my dick pulsate.

I have this same problem sometimes. You have to stop buying stuff for awhile. It's hard but once you quit you will be forced to play some of the games you already own and once you start working through your backlog you'll have more motivation to buy/play more.

Back when goodwill didn't have a personal auction site to ship off everything of interest to, I stumbled on a ROB in their store. I didn't know what it was at first, (NES was technically before my time and brawl hadn't launched yet), but I recognized the shape of the controller holder and label. despite scrounging together the pieces from various parts of the store, I decided not to buy it since I didn't know what games it worked with. Which is silly, because I'd bought accessories in the past just for recognizing the cable input (power pad comes to mind).

I mean, obviously ROB doesn't actually have any worthwhile games but I could've had the novelty for a pittance.
