It's Metal Sonic that does it for me The final boss isn't too difficult once you figure out his pattern and you just do it patiently. Metal Sonic is insanely hard though without coins.

It left the castle, walked into a battle with a Slime, died and desynced.

Slimes confirmed for hardest boss. Not even TAS makers could beat them.
