Why can't we have outlandish rumors about video games like when we swore the Triforce had to be in OoT for a year, and when someone posted pictures the whole internet freaked out?
>>3276743
Because nowadays we can easily rip resources from a game, crack source code, record videos, and loosely organize hunts.
I think it's because people can easily check on the game's code and debunk fakes like that nowadays.
But yeah I remember the Triforce thing on OOT, it was on the official Nintendo site for april's fools in 1999.
I suckered so hard for those shitty fake walkthroughs, secret ssb characters, oot triforce, secret goldeneye guns etc.
I was fucked being a kid raised in the boonies that just got an Internet connection.
What's even more ridiculous is that fucking stupid complicated shadows of the empire code that turned out to be real..
>>3276750
>stupid complicated shadows of the empire code
What you on about??
>>3276753
Probably the debug menu code: http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/198789-star-wars-shadows-of-the-empire/cheats
>>3276745
Actually some games can use that, like shit in undertale's coding that reveals things about faster and a possible prequel
>>3276743
Someone actually made a video on that site
we all used to fall for that
>>3276816
No only you
>>3276816
If you check all those people were idiots like read through how they type they sound as if they were 11
It makes me feel like there's gotta be some long kept secret that nobody's known about from that era
One day someone will find it and the Internet will flip shit
>>3276862
There have been multiple devs who give it "There's TOTALLY an easter egg that hasn't been found yet!"
I'm surprised it doesn't have its own trope page with how cancerous it is.
>>3276893
Kinda not talked about that much
>>3276893
>its own trope page
I presume you're talking abouttvtropes?
Why do we hate that place again?
>>3276934
Pseudo-academic bs that has a smug outlook on everyone like they know everything even though most of the time any analysis or ideas that they propagate come from 4chan originally
>>3276934
They decided to remove and rename multiple pages to pander to sponsors and people whose feelings are injured instead of listing common tropes across all media.
This type of pandering is not welcome, wanted, or tolerated by anyone with at least five years of internet experience.
This shit really takes me back. The one thing nobody's touched on that I remember is this gameshark code, along with all the other basic codes like tunic color there was one called 'have the triforce' or some shit. All it basically did was make the triforce pieces from the cutscene float inside the Temple of Time above the stones. Total fake bullshit but it seemed special back then. I get the feeling a lot of the hoax pictures were just people being clever with their gameshark also.
>>3276948
>five years of Internet experience
The fuck is this shit a job now?
>>3276967
Might as well be with all these fucking diversity hires and interns shitting it up.
>>3276743
>when someone posted pictures the whole internet freaked out?
If by "whole internet" you mean "dumb kids on GameFAQs forums" then sure. My friends and I always took that stuff with a huge grain of salt.
>>3276934
TVTropes is shit because it's the equivalent of referential humor, except for wannabe analysts. There are some basic tropes that are useful for discussing plots and themes, then there is 99% of the site which is slapping as many labels as you can on something, going "aha, I recognize this as an example of X!" and feeling like that counts as analysis. Doesn't help that many tropes are intentionally stretched as far as possible because people pride themselves on cramming pages with examples from their favorite anime/game/whatever.
>>3276998
Today we are all dumb kids on gamefaqs
>>3276743
I don't understand. Did these people even play the game? The triforce is already accounted for.
>>3277035
The question was whether link could get the whole Triforce, not just one piece of it.
>>3277040
But all 3 pieces were accounted for in the adult timeline and, as per the story itself, the triforce was in the sacred realm during the child timeline.
>>3277041
No vaati already fucked it up in MC
>>3277050
? The whole story of OoT is that when child Link unseals the Temple of Time, Ganondorf follows you in, goes to the sacred realm, steals the triforce, and makes his wish.
>>3277057
baka another vaati-triforce denier
>>3276743
>shilling your channel this hard
But who gaf?

Anon we do. We have that cancerous Game Theory channel. They try to pass it off as fact or like they have proof but it's baseless as the retarded things we heard when we were 8 years old.
LINK IN MAJORAS IS DEAD DIDNT YOU KNOW
MARIO IS A PSYCHOPATHHHH
OH MY GOD
It's so much worse though because it didn't result from childish rumours, but people trying to bait views by doing the most hypebolic shit and they actually think they're formulating accurate theories and shit.
>>3277676
>people trying to bait views by doing the most hypebolic shit and they actually think they're formulating accurate theories and shit.
So, literally, just like before except we have internet now.
I'm not defending shit theory, but you're deluded if you think children didn't start these shitty rumors and try to pass them off as real to be the cool kid on the block. The only difference now is they have a number telling them how many shmucks believed what they said.
>>3276743
I miss this too OP. I spent an entire summer of my childhood trying various different ways to revive general Leo in Final Fantasy 6.It didn't work. The internet era has definitely taken the magic out of a lot of things, not just games.
>>3276845
Irony: The post
>>3276998
Man I wish I was cool like you and your friends. It's so cool to not get excited about stuff.
>>3277715
>So, literally, just like before except we have internet now.
8 year olds didn't make a living from monetizing clickbait. That's what is so scummy about it but I didn't explain myself very well.
It's also not the same as blatant bullshit that's funny in retrospect. "If you press A, B 20 times the Triforce appears on Malon's head." vs "I went to a psychology course once and looked up the wikipedia entry for the 5 stages of grief, it is 100% canon that Link is dreaming in purgatory and now we must make this a meme and spam it literally every link related thing because SPOOPY CREEPYPASTA AM I RITE"
