Some day. Some day!

In the meantime, I'm finally trying my luck against the Jewel Beast's Pillars.

... and soon enough I gave up on trying to do it "legit" at a low ER and just synthed Overdrive+Chalice. It felt cheap. But after 2 hours of failure, well...

>Which one's the latest redesign

Those are Kobayashi's redesigns and the closest thing you'll get to "canon" redesigns though the mobile games use this set of redesigns.
Keep in mind that Kobayashi only completely redesigned Kujinshi and Bokuohn "human" forms, the others are slight modifications of the heroes in their in game boss forms, except Wagnas, which stays consistently the same.

This set of redesigns though is based on the heroes' human forms and has different takes on Kujinshi, Bokuohn and Subier, all ther others are either the same as the old designs or slightly different in the case of Dantarg.

>why does becoming evil turn your hair blue in the case of Wagnas/Rocbouquet/Noel?

Because it looks cool.
>>3260476
>It felt cheap. But after 2 hours of failure, well...
Overdrive isn't exactly cheap, it has very big penalties unless you stack class boosts, and even then it's still pretty costly, Overdrive in Frontier now that was cheap, even cheaper than RomaSaGa 2 Quicktime.

Besides, Overdrive in Minstrel Song is an emergency measure at best and mild entertainment at worst, it is fun to make vortexes with just one character though.

In other fights, certainly. But for that one fight that one strategy works wonders. If you can get to the second turn and the OD character gets to act too, you're golden. In my first attempt Shockwave ruined my day.
>>
>>3260507
>But for that one fight that one strategy works wonders.

True that, it's also a must have for 10FS Saruin or a very handy spell against Abyss Bat in Frontier.

You know a spell that I personally miss?

Psychic Prison, that was an amazing spell, actually, most spells in Frontier were pretty good, though some of them were incredibly broken, like Tower, LightSword or MirrorShade.

Oh shit. I've been triggering this Vortex combo the most without knowing which one favours which god. Is gaining favour with Saruin a bad thing?
>>
>>3260519
>Psychic Prison, that was an amazing spell
I remember that spell being kinda dumb - 99% of the enemies in the game don't use magic and then the remaining 1% gets completely reamed by it, which is kinda way too wonky balance wise.

>>3260570
>Is gaining favour with Saruin a bad thing?
No, not really.
>>

SaGa you so crazy.

Do you guys know where I can find complete scans of the SaGa artbooks? I'm mostly interested in Romancing and SaGa/FFL.
Already walked through the FAQs and downloads folder, but couldn't find it.

I love Kobayashi's artwork.
>>
>>3260570
>Is gaining favour with Saruin a bad thing?
Not really.
Also, now that I noticed Anon forgot that there's also the Chariot Vortex, which is triggered by five Dash attacks, though I don't remember the exact formation for that.
>>3260691
>which is kinda way too wonky balance wise.
Yeah, but I loved the concept.
>>3260823
One thing you can do is either saving before the trigger of a generation shift, but you must fight at least a random battle before finishing one generation to reroll the characters.
The other thing you can do is suicide your emperor and force a new inheritance session, that's also the only way to get all formations.
>>3260837
>Do you guys know where I can find complete scans of the SaGa artbooks?

There's a volume up on Sadpanda which has quite good scans of RomaSaGa 1 and 2, other than that you must buy the books.

In the downloads there's Essence of SaGa Frontier which has all the official artworks for SaGa Frontier, sadly we're kind of lacking in official books/artbooks scans, at least we have all the music and a few doujin albums though.
>>
>>3260910
>the Chariot Vortex
*Stallion

My bad.
>>
>>3260570
Not really, your favor with the deity is reduced to perhaps 200 points after their Benediction

Saruin is just raw damage, Death is instant death against most enemies minus certain bosses and undead Monsters

Schirach is just a Debuff effect on most enemies save several.

Each Deity has their own Benediction which is reached when favor with them is 1000 points or greater.

However late game, having a High Favor with Elore/Neutral/Dark Gods will give you a different endquest. You can actually unlock all 3 as long as you don't clear the Trials of Elore, unlock all 3 and then complete the Trials.
>>
>>3261064
>Schirach is just a Debuff effect
Oh. I just figured that Vortexes were fancy combos, not that they were buffs involved.

>>3260910
>Also, now that I noticed Anon forgot that there's also the Chariot Vortex
I stumbled upon that one too but I changed my positions around since then and haven't activated it since. It might be some variation of front middle front since I would trigger either that or Pillar with front front middle front middle.

I was hoping to make Ailing Emperor my first Fatestone quest but I let it slip. Does this lock me out of getting the Fatestone or can I still get it except with no reward this time? Right now I'm looking for Aisha to trigger another FS quest but I'm having trouble finding her.
>>
In Minstrel Song, is Lady Flammar the only way to recall Pyrology? I think I just screwed myself for a while.

>Oh. I just figured that Vortexes were fancy combos, not that they were buffs involved.

He's referring to Benedictions, not Vortexes.

Benedictions are random effects during battles where a deity will give you a blessing, like Anon said, Death is instant death on all enemies for instance, think of them as random summons, much like Odin in FFVIII, but each has different effects.

The SaGa 2 remake has a similar mechanic.

>Does this lock me out of getting the Fatestone

Yes.

>Right now I'm looking for Aisha to trigger another FS quest but I'm having trouble finding her.

Well, there's two possibilities regarding that.
One is that she's been kidnapped by old man Wuhan together with Farah, this happens once you reach a certain ER, so you might want to go to Estamir and see whether that's the case, talk to the woman in the pub in South Estamir, there will be an informer for you that will explain the quest IF that's the case, otherwise just go around in the pubs in the south regions of Estamir, Aisha can be easily found there.
>>3261253
>In Minstrel Song, is Lady Flammar the only way to recall Pyrology?

Ehhh, I'm a bit rusty on that, I think that's the case, but you might want to check a guide to be sure, sorry about that.
>>
Can someone tell me what's the difference between Final Fantasy and Romancing SaGa?
>>
>>3261471

The SaGa franchise is, by and large, a sandbox style game. You get a little bit of framework for the main character's story, and then you get dumped into the world and explore it. It's sort of like a WRPG made by Japan. The battle system is highly nuanced: there's no leveling up and no grinding. Characters get stronger by repeatedly using the same kind of weapon, magic, etc. It's very different from the standard JRPG, though it might not seem that way at first glance.
>>
>>3261471
>>3261486
Though keep in mind, Final Fantasy II (NES) was very much the proto-SaGa. But the mechanics got much more refined in the series proper.
>>
>>3261471
Back in the day there was a Legend. A Legend of Final Fantasy.
Then, as that legend grew it became a SaGa, from Romance, to the endless Frontier, Unlimited potential of Emperors and Imperial nations and ending with the Scarlet Grace on high.
>>
>>3261471
Imagine SaGa as the Final Fantasy of an alternate timeline where Final Fantasy II set the basic template for the series.

SaGa focuses on gameplay and practical roleplaying that reflects into gameplay, Final Fantasy focuses on narrative and streamlined gameplay.

SaGa is mostly non linear, has multiple MCs and endings and very large and varied casts, Final Fantasy is linear, doesn't have multiple endings and focuses on a small, defined set of characters.

SaGa uses unorthodox and unusual mechanics while staying rooted in classic tabletop games, Final Fantasy follows standard Jrpg rulesets derived from other videogames.

SaGa rewards you for taking risks rather than playing it safe, punishes grinding and traps everywhere, Final Fantasy lets you grind and gives more advantages to the player.

SaGa focuses on toolset strategy, Final Fantasy focuses on raw stats.

tl;dr: SaGa is Final Fantasy's evil, yandere twin sister.
>>
>>3261537
>SaGa rewards you for taking risks rather than playing it safe
Reminds me of Red in Frontier. Sure you have Alkaiser and it kicks all sorts of Ass, but if you use it and rely on it, you don't grow at all and you're fucked in the end game.
>>
>>3261698

Man, the way alkaiser worked was . I thought it was the coolest thing how you couldn't turn into him if there were people around.
>>
>>3261757
KO'd, Blinded, or Robots.
Also anyone know what the R3X thing at the end of Red's Quest was?
>>
So how is the android version of Romancing SaGa 2? Has a crack been released yet?
>>
>>3261809
>Also anyone know what the R3X thing at the end of Red's Quest was?
Just a joke on its source material, I think.

It's probably a parody of Kamen Rider Black RX (which was the sequel to KR Black)

>>3261973
>Has a crack been released yet?
Look at that last thread - anyway, no it's not fully cracked yet. >>3259582

You can supposedly play it but only if you have rooted your phone - otherwise the Anti-protection
>>
Did anyone else like Unlimited Saga? I heard the game had taken a lot of flack
>>
In RS2 is it possible to run out of a generic class if they all die or does it cycle back to the start?
>>
>>3262320
Pretty sure it cycles.

Enjoy your thousand-year old characters.
>>
>>3262339
>>3262320
Yeah, it's cycles - that's how people get characters like Hannibal and Kongming multiple times.
>>
>>3262241
>Did anyone else like Unlimited Saga?
I love it, though don't take me wrong, I also hate certain changes like the fact that the exploration is basically a VN menu, Naora's design are really a hit or miss compared to Kobayashi and while it had a great scenario there was some missed potential like not having at least one robot character.
But the battle and general game system is so fucking good if you get into it, and I think that the growth system is the best in the whole series, if they took out the Tetraforce exploit it would be perfect.

>>3262320
The classes cycle, so once everyone dies or enough generation shifts happen you get back to the starter/archetype character.

However, each generic that is elected as Emperor can't be reelected as such, meaning that if you want to, you can suicide run to the last emperor as soon as you get into Gerard's generation by continuously killing off emperors, eventually the game will force you to progress straight into the last chapter, which is a "fun" challenge if you're up to it, it's basically a "Dante must Die" challenge though, so I don't suggest anyone to try it before you really know how to play the game, especially completionists since you are forced to not complete one particular quest that way.
>>
>>3262241
I enjoyed it. It gets undeserved flack as well. People complain about reels being too random when all it takes is hand eye coordination to get the result you want. Easier to do it when you are in battles to land on techniques than using field skills but ALL reels have a pattern thus it just becomes a timed button press like often praised JRPG's like Vagrant Story, Mario RPG's, or Legend of Dragoon.

I liked the fact that there were so many field skills, traversing obstacles like rivers or heavy debris, scouting out locations seeing if they have traps and even disarming traps, negotiating with monsters so you are less likely to need to battle, and so on.

There are many other positives to it as well. I found it fun, though not my favorite in the series.

>>3261494
Pretty much, and the games in the SaGa series still alternate with what they do. Though most do away with skill levels towards weapons and magic and just use base stats that go up thus you can easily mix and match weapons rather than always needing a certain class of weapon to actually kill anything. Even in later games with sparking you can actually quickly spark a lot of skills when you change weapon types so you aren't hindered that much unlike Final Fantasy II. Though it is understandable in FFII since it is a late 80's JRPG.

I got it working on nox app player on my toaster laptop but it's laggy
>>
>>3262745
Yup, got talk to the captain in the dojo and your emperor will talk to him.

The classes that can teach new formations are:

Nomad= Whirlwind
Amazon=Amazon Strike
Brawler=Dragon Formation
City Thief=Free Fight 1
Tactician=Phoenix Dance
East Guard=Inazuma/Lightning
Sea Merchant/Trader=Rapid Stream
Imperial Guard=Imperial Arrow
Desert Guard=Desert Fox
Hunter=Hunter Shift
Mu Herder/Saigo Clan=Mu Fence
Holy Order=Holy Wall
Sea Woman=Power Raise/Rise

Be sure to get at least Rapid Stream, it's arguably the best all purpose formation, closely followed by Amazon Strike.

In the remaster there's a new formation called Goblin Attack, but you need to clear a certain event in one dungeon of the maze of memories to get that.

Because despite the flaws it's one of the most colorful games in the line, with very diverse main characters to choose from.

>>
>>3263518

It's incomplete, and it's unbalanced. That much is true. It's rough around the edges, but there's very few games like it. It's a good starting point because it gives you an idea of what the franchise is like in terms of diversity and open-endedness, and it's fairly easy to beat compared to most of the other games while still retaining what makes the series great.

>>3263518
It is unbalanced and some stuff was cut during development, like 90% of games anyway, but a mess? Not really.
>then why would it be the best starting point?
Because it's not as unforgiving as other titles and incorporates all the basic features of the modern series.

The characters are cool and some of them are pretty unique, the stories are nice, the music is great, there's a lot of good stuff really.

Besides, it's not one of the favorite and best selling PS1 games in Japan for nothing.

Finally, I got to hear the music that got me to try this game. This is the most fun I've had with a JRPG in years. I actually only just unlocked Frontier, an area I hadn't even noticed before, by stealing Barbara's FS and the idea that there's even more to do is so exciting. I think I'll leave that area for another playthrough since I don't want to get locked out of quests I actually want to do, like Ailing Emperor that cost me two Fatestones already. I'm hoping I enjoy the other games as much.

I find Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song as the best in the series due to the fact that it incorporates so many mechanics across the series and due to how polished it is. It is more than just a remake, but more of a compilation of the series mechanics wise.

Though yes, you will find a lot of good points in other games in the series. Hell, with SaGa Frontier all the routes have their own stories, have character specific dungeons, and each route has their own unique final bosses with unique final boss music.
>>
>>3263959
And that's precisely why I have no love for the guy. Glad to see I'm not alone on that opinion.

If it was anyone else saying what is being said in those forums it'd come off as reasonable, in the case of Gideon it's just being a whiny bitch.

I used to think he was a respectable guy until I found SMT If... was being worked on by them. Then I heard of other people that wanted to give a go at translating it, but "can't because AGT is on it". Then realized RSG2 was as well and people said the same thing. I looked into GIdeon's twitter just to see if he was working on something since all the fun projects have been on standby for years. Nope, gamergate spergery, thirsty beta socjus retweeting and weeb bullshit all in one, for months and months on end. He's the type of person that would be more deserving of the title "e-celeb" than the youtubers this board keeps shitposting about.

In short, acts like a bizarre mixture of diva and mafioso with a side of gloryhound and sjw. The living stereotype of a person that, at work, would suck the dick of everyone who can land him a promotion but backstab everyone else.

>>
>>3264123
>I've been wondering just how much dialogue is generic and unique to each character in some of the bigger scenes.
SaGa in general isn't huge on dialogue, so you probably won't get too much unique dialogue unless it is for advancing the story of course.

MAKE NO MISTAKE, THEY WILL BE MINE!

>>3264123
>I've been wondering just how much dialogue is generic and unique to each character in some of the bigger scenes.
In japanese? Quite a lot. The localized version? Ehhh, not so much, it's a terrible translation that butchers most characters.
Besides, as >>3264140 says, SaGa isn't huge generally on dialogue and Frontier's strength was that there's quite a lot of plot and lore but it's all divided between characters and some lore, like parts of Annie's story are quite hidden. You'll have to connect some dots to understand the world lore, especially when it comes to Wakatu, Trinity, the spaceships ruins in Shingrow and Mystics such as Virgil/Vardjouel, Rei-hime or Time Lord.

Some other things, like the names of Orlouge's wives are unintelligible in English because they're kind of elaborate wordplays in Japanese.

>I've also come to like Claudia's theme a lot, one thing I'll miss when I switch heroes.

It's a pretty emotional theme, Claudia's story is pretty nice overall, I got a bit teary eyed when she says farewell to Brau and Sylvan after Eule dies.
>>

As long as you don't want to fight 10FS Saruin and want to grind a bit three other good characters it's doable I guess.

Yeah, I agree.
I also really like the little story of the Demonbrand when playing as Grey, Hawke and his rivalry with Butcher(with that fucking amazing pirate theme blasting in the backround), or Sif generally being based and trashtalking and humiliating every baddie in the game.

But then again, I really like SaGa's writing in general because while it can be very dramatic is still very down to earth, concise and not melodramatic, SaGa Frontier 2 is a perfect example of that.

Truth to be told, as long as you have the right tools it matters little who you bring to the fight, though of course statistical advantage might help a lot.
Hannibal is a great help because it's your best physical attacker bar none, his only problem is that he's pretty slow compared to most party members, using the Emerald Axe setup is a pretty safe strategy too, but if you manage to get a Dragon Gae Bolg you don't need to grind Axe proficiency levels, the Emerald Axe is still a safer strategy though.

Koumei buffed with the Liberty Staff's Bless will probably do insane damage with Crimson Flare or Galaxy but he's made of wet paper and you'll have to grind him to at least 800 HP to not have him die before the battle ends.

A Female Holy Order is always a solid party member, I always take one with me for healing, buffing and attacking with spells.

Last member can be whoever you want really, I used a Ninja in the remake and it was a pretty good, albeit arguably very fragile, choice, but as long as you can keep being aggressive you'll be good.

But again, it matters little who you bring, the Seven Heroes are NASTY, it's far more important to have the right tools for the battle, I mean, people have even soloed them with Coppelia back then, though the Wind Cutter bugfix might change that a bit, if you can use the Dragon Pulse setup in the remake it should still be possible to solo.

Regarding formations, I jump in the Rapid Stream bandwagon, though many jap players also used Amazon Strike, depends on your build and team really.
>>3264873
>What do I do with the bird nest?
You need to take the Bird's Nest together with the other two ingredients, the water from the Aqua Lake in the Ludon Plains and the Eggshell from the Savannah, she won't make you the fishman potion otherwise.
To get water from the Aqua Lake you'll have to bring Tethys the Moonlight Comb, and to do so you have to liberate the Molemen from the Queen since they're the ones who'll make it for you.
>>
>>3264873
>I thought there might be an event in Atlanticus with the dancer,
>Atlanticus

THAT CITY'S CALLED MERMAID GODDAMN.
Anyway, you need a male emperor for the dancer to appear, keep in mind that if you do the Ghost Ship quest before that you won't be able to trigger the Dancer/Mermaid quest.
Also keep in mind that completing the quest will make your male emperor abdicate for obvious reasons and will probably cause a generation shift as well since you'll get a portion of South Rongit as part of the empire, which also means more taxes for you luckily.

Can someone remind me what Weight affects in RS2 outside of turn order? I vaguely recall something about Martial Arts needing low Weight but I don't know the specific

Also what are the best unit types early game when you haven't unlocked all the super special classes yet - it's always the most painful part of the game for me.
>>
>>3265702
>I vaguely recall something about Martial Arts needing low Weight but I don't know the specific

I honestly don't remember anything like that.
Usually weight affects wrestling moves like Suplex and Unlimited had its own separate system for weight in Martial Arts, but RomaSaGa 2 doesn't have mandrama waza.

I might be wrong though so you better check out a wiki or something, are you sure you're not thinking about RomaSaGa 3?

>Also what are the best unit types early game when you haven't unlocked all the super special classes yet

Considering the game's highly non linear that's a rather difficult question to answer, you can get people like the Saigo Clan/Mu Herder as soon as Gerald's generation and they're considered some of the best in terms of melee combat and tanking.

I'd say that your go to classes for the first two generations should be City Thieves, Holy Order, Sea Merchants and Brawlers.
For super early game like, first gen after Gerard's one any of your Imperial guys like Free Fighter are more than enough, just don't fight in the Meru Desert and you'll be fine.
>>
>>3265724

Not that guy again, but I've heard of a no final emperor/empress run where completing the game in a specific way won't force them to take the throne. I kind of wanted to do that with Coppelia so that she'll be my last empress before the final boss.

Also, are the final emperor/empress of Avalonian blood, or do they swooce right in and claim the throne when no one else can?
>>
Damn, I figured it would be like this but touch-screen controls are really awkward with on-screen enemies - it's almost impossible to dodge anything and I wish they at least made Dash speed the default without triggering "Broke Formation!" to make up for it.

Also I think I might taken Frameskip for granted because the process of teaching magic to everyone at 1x speed is just painful.
>>
>>3266103
>Also, are the final emperor/empress of Avalonian blood, or do they swooce right in and claim the throne when no one else can?

No canon story on that, so you can assume whatever you like.

Mechanically wise, no they're not since if your party gets wiped out Inheritance Magic kicks in to choose somebody living in that same era to transfer the power of the dead Emperor/Empress to keep up the fight against the Seven Heroes, completing certain quests like the Mermaid quests also makes your emperor abdicate and fuck off with their monster waifu so the original bloodline would stop there.

Then again, there's no canon info on that, closest thing would be the old RomaSaGa 2 manga but afaik it's not recognized as canon and I don't know too much about it besides some dank japanese internet memes.
>>3266120
>it's almost impossible to dodge anything and I wish they at least made Dash speed the default without triggering "Broke Formation!" to make up for it.

Dashing without breaking the formation would go against basic design rules of the trilogy.
To be honest, they actually removed the original screen filter gimmick, in the SNES version you had a filter that made all actors besides the emperor invisible when you dashed, much like RomaSaGa 3 makes enemies almost transparent when you dash, it's already less dickish than it was in the original.

I can understand your problem though, having a legit d-pad is much better, luckily the game's coming on Vita in the west as well, hopefully with a corrected or better translation.

I noticed that on one of the preview images, a new emperor mentioned that they would avenge the previous one. Does that line change depending on how the last ruler left the throne? I assuming it's only said when a ruler gets LP-killed or a party wipe happens, but what about getting dark magic or just running off with scaled maidens?

Niche, unpopular series that only appeals to hardcore fans on a platform where new fans are going to be hard to find due to the price and lack of legacy for them, as well as few hardcore fans because many of them are also the kind that are antiphone.

Basically, they were using phones as a way to test the waters, but fucked themselves in the ass doing so. It's almost like they did it intentionally to fuck the series, but it's probably just that they aren't aware of the western audience for this series.
>>
>>3266587
>Is the global level determined by the highest reached level at one time?

I believe so.

>Let's say I just reached 14 Light. Is the new global level 14 Light

Truth to be told, I'm not exactly sure myself how the general proficiency level is exactly calculated, it's kind of hard to understand it since while there is in fact a general plateau, the actual proficiency distribution varies with classes.

By empirical observation classes with native spellcasting abilities get bonuses on the general level regarding the native schools of magic, i.e. Imperial Guards get bonuses on light magic, Tacticians get bonuses in Fire, Earth and Light, so let's say that your emperor has 20 proficiency levels in Light magic, your tactician will probably have around 25 while a class with no natural Light magic i.e. City Thieves will probably be around 14-15.

Though again, this is based on my observation only so I might be very wrong.

I guess I'll hit a JP wiki tomorrow and see how it works exactly.

By the way, I saw some more of the translation, it's a goddamn mess, I withdraw anything I've said some time ago, this is a fucking disaster.
>>
>>3266804

Yeah, I noticed a few typos and spacing errors in dialogue or descriptions. Also, the in-battle dialogue seems to be timed wrong, because Kujinshi (I'm just going to call him that) was like "T-This cannot be..." before using Soulsteal on Gerard but after his first dialogue where you know he's about to cast it.

Additionally, could Gellard have been translated to Gerard or Gerald? They're both legitimate names.
>>
>>3266829
>Additionally, could Gellard have been translated to Gerard or Gerald?

The Avalon kingdom is evidently french inspired, it is situated in the Varenne region and the original three royals all have french names, it's pretty evident by looking at Gerard's name which uses a vocal elongation in the katakana ジェラール(Jeraaru), with ー being a vowel doubler for the (a) in Ger(a)rd, same thing for Viktor which is written as ヴィクトール(Bikutooru) , both use the elongated vowels used in the french spelling, I don't know whether Gerard is a more french spelling than Gerald though, I don't know that much about french onomatology so I'll leave it at that.

I'm more bothered about garbage like Kzinssie though, let alone completely changing classes' and cities' names for literally no reason, I'm pretty fucking mad.
>>
>>3266871

Who knows if the translation was outsourced or in-house. Why does Kzinssie say "Excellent." right before you defeat him in the rematch? It implies that he intended to lose, but in the following cutscene, he seems upset that you won.

>>
>>3267726
SaGa has a random encounter interval from I believe something like 0-50 steps.

Yes, zero steps is correct. You can sometimes get into a battle immediately after exiting one, or immediately after loading your data.

Get used to quickly saving and loading data (takes less than 5 seconds to do either), and using A+B+Start+Select to soft reset the game and go to the title screen. When you don't want to get into a battle, just save, move like 10 steps, save again, and soft reset and quickly reload when you get into one.

This is how the game is meant to be played. Save all the time and soft reset and reload whenever you want. Later SaGa games literally have a "quicksave" feature separate from your hard saves for this exact purpose.

If I recall correctly:

Climb Mt. Scurve first to meet Avi and accept his request early game (Bring him the Ignigarde for Cyclone Shoes)
Meet Pyrix during the infestation from Mt. Tomae to unlock the Ice Sword quest and the chance to fight Pyrix to spark techs (Trade Ice Sword for Ignigarde)
You can Meet Adyllis at any time by gaining access to Bayre Plateau (Trade Cyclone Shoes for Raincloud Armlet)
You can meet Strom during the Water Dragon Rite quest. (Trade Raincloud Armlet for Wuhan's Daughter)

(Killing Strom will net you a Mirror Shield which helps against Jewel Beasts' Multiplex Eye)

Out of all the JRPGs I played that trading BS across Mardias is perhaps the most tedious.

Also if you completed their requests, it opens up their Ecology quests. You can't fail them on the playthrough you first initiate it, however every subsequent playthrough, you can fail it, doing so allows you to fight corrupted versions of the 4 Elemental Lords.
>>
>>3267817
You can force Galahad to buy the Ice Sword at any time by entering the shop it's sold at with enough money to buy it. She'll tell you that someone else just happened to walk in and buy it before you did, at which point you can go and rob him at any time.

You can also fight Pyrix at any point after Avi asks you to get the ignigarde.

You need to go to Bayre plateau to get the faerie orb that's there anyway, so that's not too bad.

Basically, you can get the ice sword before ever being sent to get it, and actually do the entire sequence without visiting any place more than once, you get to Strom and just already have the raincloud armlet when shit goes down, everything wraps up automatically.
>>
>>3267836
I should mention that you CANNOT convince Galahad to part with the sword willingly unless you've already started the quest. You MUST kill him.

And that's what I do every single time.

Swords, Greatswords(including Katana), Spears, Axes, Hammers/Staves and Martial Arts run off Strength, bows and rapiers run off Dexterity.

Certain waza however use Magic as damage multiplier, such as the Worm Slayer's Swarm.
I believe the old Faqs on Gamefaqs have data on it.

>>3267898
>Can be used 1 or 2 Handed" inaccurate

It is, it's meant to say that the Bastard Sword, like other swords such as the Moonlight can use both Greatsword and normal Sword waza, and to be perfectly clear, it's USE only, it doesn't mean you can spark sword waza with a Bastard Sword, but if you spark or teach somebody normal Sword Waza they can be used with the Bastard Sword too.

Yep. Sometimes you just say fuck this shit and do things your own way. I got the ice sword my own way. That is partly why I like the game as well, while in the end you do defeat Saruin your character isn't always guaranteed to be the paragon of all that is holy in the world.

Pyrix motivations for wanting the Ice Sword makes sense, but I never understood why the hell the rest of the elemental lords loan out their items to each other and have to trouble random people to go get them back - especially considering they're like human-sized and clearly not Elemental Lord size so they couldn't have been using them.

PHEW.
I guess I got lucky eventually!
I got into the second phase with poor healer Aisha dead, but Lizard Bro managed to be SUPER speedy and healed her, wasting Saruin's first turn.
From then on it was a succession of lucky breaks, like Albert being the target of single-target spells and then Animate Dead the next turn. Except NOPE! Moonstone!
With four consistent attackers going at it nearly every turn I was able to deplete the second and third set of pillars.

I am satisfied. Though I'm not sure if I'll do a third run right away.
>>
>>3268045
The elemental lords probably have their own agenda when it comes to Mardias, probably they're meant to keep the ecologic balance and the item loan is a way to test adventurers so that they could assure whether they're capable of completing their ecology assignments and keep the balance between creatures in the world.

Regarding items, they're probably just tokens to them, though there's no official explanations on that afaik.
>>3268053

You can leave a character with the moonstone dead to bait Animate Dead continuosly and make Saruin waste turns, not feasible on 10FS though.

I blame the fact that I actually DO like to grind, and you can do it in these games. Although I admit that in Frontier 2 you have to go out of your way to do it in a manner that will be useful.

Well, you should play Rudra no Hihou if you haven't already, it's also by Kawazu and you can kind of grind in there.

It uses the SaGa multiple MC formula but it's linear and all the MCs are tied together in the general plotline, so even if they meet up at times you need to play all four of them to understand the story and lore as every MC has his or her different main quest, it's a pretty neat albeit greatly flawed game, batshit insane graphics too for a SNES game and nice music as well.

I'd say that if you like Kawazu-isms it's a must play for the magic system alone, most characters are also nice, though the plot kinda nosedives in the finale.

So I'm trying to get the ice sword and Galahad spawned with it in front of the pub in Altours, but the only options are "I'm not a thief" and "Wrest it from his hands"

what do?

Choose "I'm not a thied" if you are a sensible person, then recruit him back and either troll him by taking him to Flame Tyrant/Pyrix or get his sword and kick him out.

Choose "wrest it from his hands" if you want to taste the Keen Edge of Justice™.

I'm already thinking about how to do my party in the second one, and I know they introduce robots, but I don't really know what their gimmic is. They gain stats based on the equipment they use, also all items equipped to them have their uses halved (rounded downwards) but you can refresh the items charges at an inn. They were my go to guys when I started getting good weapons in dungeons like muskets, grenades, SMG's, and so on since I could easily recharge those items on them while using attacks that hit groups of monsters.

On the first game I beat of FFII I think I did a one human, two mutant, and a robot party. It is all up to you what you decide to choose but I highly suggest getting a robot since they are fun to use.

Or you could just Recruit him early on in the Temple of Mirsa in Crystal City and just keep him until you get enough cash for the Ice Sword.

You gain 2x the favor with the Dark Gods if he was in your party beforehand.

He is an LP tank (Has some of the highest LP of the cast (18)), but has shitty BP regen.

>>3268962
The greatest challenges of the game are the 3 Dark Gods and Awakened Jewel Beast. Jewel Blaster is a Quad Elemental attack. He does use Multiplex Eye which can inflict paralysis on a party member, Mirror Shield negates Gaze attacks. JB is immune to Magic, so if you have any mages, you are shit out of luck, their use will be utility for that battle.

Every 6 turns he will fire off Jewel Blaster, when you whittle down his HP to a certain number, he will fire it every 3 turns.

Well, that was a hell of a last boss fight with God.

Lost like five times due to the fact my monsters literally could not damage him, so I had to rely on my human doing very little damage (like 300-tops with Masamune) and my mutant with flare.

I'm glad the RNG Gods let me win, because I know the last boss could out damage me faster than I could heal.

Spriggan has around 10000 HP, so it's clearly not meant to be taken down if you go directly to Cumberland, same with entering the fortress in Viktor Canal by destroying the front door.
Also, I'm sure you've noticed he has Grand Slam and that's a bullshit strong attack, you'll need around 600 HP or so to even stand a chance and not die in one turn.
What you should do against Spriggan is the usual strategy to deal with Giants, try to stun him, use a formation that either baits attack so you can use counter waza and not make him use Grand Slam so much or try to beat him in speed and use Rapid Stream coupled with waza that can stun.
But really, Spriggan isn't meant to be fought at that point unless you did a lot of other stuff before Cumberland, which also means you're locked into the bad end though. The good thing about him is that you can learn the Grand Slam mikiri, which helps a lot against Dantarg.

>>3270363

That's a pretty damn heavy weapon though, much like all the weapons you get from the corrupted versions of the Elemental Lords.

>>3270938
>because I know the last boss could out damage me faster than I could heal.

That's one of the main traits of SaGa when it comes to battles, you can't tank, it's very different from other games where you can inflate your stats so much even final bosses usually just scratch you, SaGa doesn't let you tank in the way you do in other games, that's why you have to focus on finding a strategy that lets you survive first of all, coupled with the introduction of LP later on it's one hell of a system.
>>
>>3270437
He's really not even top 3 LP tanks, when you have Guella Ha, Theodore, and Claudia, all of whom are better characters in other aspects while having comparable LP.

>>
>>3271060
>when you have Guella Ha, Theodore, and Claudia, all of whom are better characters in other aspects while having comparable LP.

The only advantage they have over Galahad is having better BP regeneration, Minstrel Song doesn't have fixed stats so the only things that matters while making character tiers are LP and BP stat wise.

Herman's problem is that he grows pretty slowly and has very low starting stats and a shitty redesign.

Careful in the undead dungeon, the Onmyouji event has a pretty tough boss that you need to defeat in order to get the class.

you claim stat growth doesn't matter then acknowledge that stat growth matters in literally the next sentence

like dude what are you even saying

The only thing Galahad has going for him is his martial arts base power modifier.

Something you can also get on Hawke, Sif, Theodore, Guella Ha, and Silver also.

All of whom are better than him at almost everything. Silver is pretty fcking hard to use with that 4 LP though.
>>
Is investing into martial arts in RS2 a waste of time? My brawler has only sparked one move since I got him and it's been kind of a while.
>>
>>3271575

I don't think so. I ran with 4 characters until I could do the Fiend Cloister to grab Karl, and I sparked Sobat off of Kick, and then Meia Lua Compasso (fancy kick that stuns enemies) off of Sobat on the Victor Canal boss.
>>
>>3271475
>you claim stat growth doesn't matter then acknowledge that stat growth matters in literally the next sentence

Stat growth SPEED doesn't matter because all characters can reach the same plateau opposed to systems with fixed stats where no matter how much you grind, Muse won't hit as hard as Harid with a sword, which isn't a problem in Minstrel Song as long as you grind.

Stat growth speed is hardly a problem if you know how to play the game and minmaxing requires to spend a lot of time anyway and by the time you've maxed your characters Herman is bound to have caught up simply due to how the system works, not to mention that his large LP pool lets you use him as a pretty reliable support tank or meatshield.

I agree that better BP regen is a big deal though, it is in fact the most important factor in tiers in Minstrel Song and the big reason why Barbara is arguably the best MC gameplay wise.

>Silver is pretty fcking hard to use with that 4 LP though.

Silver is a Dragonite though, so she's sturdier than she looks, she does require a lot of maintenance against bosses like Death or Saruin though since they're too strong even for Dragonites.
>>3271575
>Is investing into martial arts in RS2 a waste of time?

Absolutely not, Martial Arts have an unbelievably good skillset as always.
The only thing Martial Arts can't do is hitting multiple enemies, but you can self heal, self buff, counter, stun and even have indirect attacks like Chi Shot or Eradicate Evil so you can get around enemies with counters.

Are we having a translation talk? There's definitely a lot of fuck-ups but I think most of the name changes seem intentional...

Kzinsshie - I've seen it in use in several official Square stuff before - I think most notably they call the track theme that on the music soundtracks, so for whatever reason, it looks like the Japanese themselves decided that this is how you spell his name.

Atlanticus - Well, it's pretty obvious this can't possibly be a "translation" mistake because I don't know how anyone remotely competent would go from Mermaid to that. I don't know why they localized it like that though, because it does make the line "This town is famous for mermaids, that's why it's called Atlanticus" sound kind of dumb, but maybe they're planning some kind of future reference or something.

Lob Omen - Apparently this precedent was set in Last Remnant? Which had a higher quality translation than RS2 so probably intentional here http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/Lob_Omen

WHY they decided on what they used, I don't know, but at bare minimum they apparently didn't just run the names through Google Translate and used the first outcome.
>>
>>3270938
Back in the day, we called him Creator and oneshot him with our Saw.

Nah, just kidding, Human 1 spamming Glass Sword that didn't actually break, Human 2 Masamune after throwing him the N.Bomb for 594 damage, Mutant and Monster spamming flares.
Speaking of SaGa 1, it's kinda annoying how monsters are much weaker than anything else, since their gimmick is kinda fun. That said, 2 Humans 2 Mutants is probably the perfect balance of inventory, focused damage, and AOE firepower, but doing that I'd be sad everytime an enemy dropped a meat. Also monsters are actually kinda cool when you have to do a very long treck and there's no inn for miles. Still, they're pretty much useless on final boss unless they have a strong physical attack, flare (to damage him for 3 rounds) or well, the saw skill.
>>

>Meia Lua Compasso is the proper name for that specific kick in the Capoeira style though, isn't it?

Not even close.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiLqVCyyoPs

Capoeira Kick has your character visibly jumping and do a reverse kick, it's a flying kick, the Meia Lua de Compasso is a ground spin kick.

Besides, it's literally called Capoeira Kick, it's not a problem to translate unlike 乱れ雪月花, it's literally Katakana, why do they have to push their own arguably wrong interpretation of a simple concept such as Capoeira Kick?

Damn, it's SaGa Frontier all over again.
>>3271706

>Kzinsshie
It's a wrong romanization of Kujinshi, see what SRW did for their Kurogane ship which is written as Kulogwane in their artbooks.
If you write it as Kzinssie/Kzinsshie you lose the wordplay on the Shinjuku metro station the character is named after.
Japs suck at romanizing their own stuff, but if a translator can't see that, and doesn't even know the naming conventions of the games it's still a bad localization.
>This town is famous for mermaids, that's why it's called Atlanticus

The Town was actually called Mermaid, but the japanese phrase you quoted uses 人魚 (ningyo) which stands for mermaid, or more accurately fishman/merfolk, it's another shitty translation.

>but maybe they're planning some kind of future reference or something.

Up to now there's no Atlanticus in any SaGa game as far as I remember, so I exclude that.

>Lob Omen - Apparently this precedent was set in Last Remnant?

Can't comment on this one, most people tend to translate it as Love Omen, but it's written as ロブオ―メン whereas love is written as ラブ so I tend to go with Lov/Lob.

I'm seriously thinking about filing some sort of complaint for this, I'm tired of having subpar localizations, that's one of the main reasons I stopped buying localized games and learned Japanese, but I can't stand them keeping up this shit, it makes me seriously mad.

Remember to talk to the captain in the dojo so you get the Dragon formation.
>>
>>3272115

>>
>>3272120
>but from what I can visually see of it, wouldn't 2 and 3 be safer?
Kind of, Position 4 is the least targeted position.

It's a bit of a nasty formation in terms of defense anyway since as you see the Emperor is in front while the other teammates are in a semirect formation behind him.

The Dragon formation is a formation that should only be used if your Emperor has high SPD ratings since all the characters behind him/her will attack in order after he/she gets a turn.

Problem is that position 1, 3 and 4 all receive horizontal damage by techs like Lightning(remember Gelatinous Matter?), if targeted by vertical hitting techs it's also a big problem because if the target is 2 then 1 and 3 also get hit, same formula for every other party member outside of position 1, the adjacent numbers of the targeted number get hit by vertical attacks.

It's a blitz formation, meaning that if you use that you better be able to kill first, it's basically a Rapid Stream with different tradeout, whereas Rapid Stream ALWAYS make you attack first regardless of your party members' SPD it trades off with being the least useful formation in terms of defense, Dragon Formation still gives you pretty good chances at attacking first but a slightly better formation in terms of position so you don't get completely slaughtered by stuff like Red Dragon Wave or Kamaitachi.
>>
>>3272139

Well, I'll keep all that in mind. Dynamite has his martial arts proficiency, but also Fire/Earth/Light.

Beaver will be working on shortsword/epee stuff.

I've read that Sidhe is actually a pretty decent martial artist, so she'll be on backup if her sword skills can't cut it. It's cool that she started with some light too. I gave her and Beaver earth and water.

Lily and Libra are the casters, who I gave light to as well. I'm trying to focus on elements as early as I can because I don't have enough for fusion magic yet, but I have a lot of crowns.

>I was grinding like a dummy anyway.
I really hope for you you're at least able to fight some mooks for proficiencies, RomaSaGa 2 punishes you pretty hard in terms of BR.

>I wish you could put your ruler somewhere else

No can do, most of the formations have the Emperor as the pivotof their gimmick, if you could replace the Emperor with anyone else you'd break the balance completely, exactly like what happened in Imperial where basically everyone uses Dragon/Rapid stream so much they neutered Rapid Stream for the semi PVP.

>(also, Unlimited SaGa content when).
Last update was Minstrel Song Hawke, Butcher and Silver, I suppose we'll keep getting Minstrel Song characters for a while, probably all the MCs with some support alernated with other retrains and maybe the rest of RomaSaGa 3 and Frontier 2 and then they'll introduce Unlimited.

The updates are very erratic though, so maybe we'll get Unlimited sooner than expected but they still have to finish adding characters from basically anything but SNES Romancing SaGa. They're also slowly updating the CUBE routes for Fuse too and also have to keep up with the semi PVP event, last rebalance was a disaster so they'll probably work on that too.
>>

In the WS version, I already used my Glass Sword because it only has one use in that game, so I didn't have it for the final boss. They also fixed the stat bugs, so 99 is the actual max.

My monsters were pretty competent for most of the game and more than outdamaged my Human and Mutant for most of it, but having nothing but elemental attacks made them useless at the final boss. At least it was easier in that I only had to worry about healing two people.

My mutant ended up with 99 in each stat, so I guess they came out on top in the end. I just wasn't a fan of having no control over what skills they learned.

>What are the saga phone games like, anyway?
I never played Emperor so I can't tell you much about it besides it being a card game with some SaGa mechanics slapped in.

Imperial is a web browser game, though you can play it on tablets as well so it's kind of a mobile game as well.

>most of the mechanics like sparking, stat gains and battle rank wouldn't work in a traditional phone game.

Actually, Imperial has those mechanics, you do spark but the difference is that sparking is now simplified, at certain difficulty ranks you get the chance of sparking a set tier of waza, that's it, no using other stuff to learn stronger waza and if you only take hard missions you only spark waza for that rank, anything lower or higher is automatically excluded.

Stat gains work similarly to the GB trilogy but you only have three main stats and items that can be used to gain stats in a subtable of stats which are very similar to Minstrel Song, HP grows as well but the game's AP is fixed to 50, you can train characters to make waza less costly though, or make them more powerful but more costly.

Also, character have a growth limit depending on rarity numbers, so once you reach a limit they won't get stats anymore, doing harder missions give you more level ups chances as well.

Battle Rank is now simply mission rank, since you select missions from our hub, which are all basically a gauntlet of battles in maze-like routes, so you have to manage splitting your party members around.

It's not a stellar game by all means, though it made HUGE progress since launch, it was almost literally unplayable compared to now, but it's great for the crossovers and fanservice, like having Gerard and Gustave becoming sworn friends, Robin and Alkaiser fighting together in the name of justice,Fuse dicking around with people like Boston and various shenanigans, the Knights finally being a fucking huge family so Ginny can finally be with Rich and see what her dad was like and so on.

Concentrate on taking them out one by one, you should know how to combo and use Vortexes by the time you get to Quietus, moreover, you should be able to synthesize either Shock or Overdrive to cheese them.

Use the same strategy as you would do with normal minions, keep in mind though that the attacks you use against them will be memorized by Saruin, so don't use all the stuff you have or your most powerful moves otherwise Saruin will cockblock all the moves you used against the minions with Parry.

Any idea how the shock effect is calculated? Because it never seemed to work for me.
I just took the coward's way out and avoided the Minions.

On the plus side now I know what the Minions meant with the "now I know how you fight". It'll make my third run Saruin fight go a little smoother.

Not sure, you may need to raise your level of Demonology or fuse spells to Shock Wave using one of the classes that has that ability.

If it's stat based, all I can tell you is grind like mad until your stats are high enough to instigate Shock.
>>
>>3274532
>Any idea how the shock effect is calculated?
If Minstrel Song uses the usual system in SaGa games, it's probably a mix of proficiency in demonology and magic stats like Intelligence, though I might be wrong on that.

The chances of inflicting willpower status ailments is your INT calculated against the enemy's WIL, or your DEX vs the enemy's WIL in the case of techniques. This is actually based on the specific ailment being inflicted rather than it's source, but as a general rule it works. Shock is INT vs WIL.

The chances of inflicting body status ailments (like paralyze with blunt strike) is your DEX vs the enemy's VIT.

The chances (as well as the magnitude) of decreasing stats with techniques is your DEX vs the enemy's AGI.

These of course are reversed in the case of you yourself being the target.

So I finally beat Saruin. Is the ending made up of fixed scenes? I know you can recruit Raphael and Neidhart, so what if I did? Pretty great game overall though, I had a lot of fun. The only thing I didn't like was the fixed camera and chaining insanity later in the game. A more minor issue, the final boss music was kind of underwhelming after amazing pieces like Wicked Melody, Challenge to God and Passionate Rhythm.

I'm really looking forward to trying out the rest of the SaGa games. I think I'll go for two playthroughs with Albert and Hawke/Sif before moving on though.

Iirc, once you reach 250 years you'll get a forced generation shift after you complete an event, but I must recheck that.

>>3274927

Berva's pretty fun to fight until you realize that Sway only works for direct melee and he gets rekt by indirect melee.

>>3274943
>Is the ending made up of fixed scenes?

Yep, some of those require you to fulfill certain conditions, Wuhan won't appear if you kill him for instance.

>I know you can recruit Raphael and Neidhart, so what if I did?

I never brought Raphael with me to Saruin, but I once brought Neidhart during a Sif playthrough and still saw his cutscene.

>the final boss music was kind of underwhelming after amazing pieces like Wicked Melody, Challenge to God and Passionate Rhythm.

I think To the Altar of Revival is pretty GOAT, same for Decisive Battle with Saruin, but then again, my favorite battle themes from Minstrel Song are Chaos Labyrinth, Believe in my Justice, The Soul of Fire and A Piece of Courage, Passionate Rhythm doesn't really count because fucking everyone likes Passionate Rhythm, it's a given.

Try Frontier once you're done with Minstrel Song, it's not as balanced or complex, but it's very satisfying to play nonetheless, great music and characters too.

For the first form, yes, but he's a weakling there, that's why you should get Rapid Stream and destroy him in a few turns.

The second form is nastier though, but the key is still being faster than him so he doesn't buttfuck you with Marionette.

>>3275774

To be fair, the hardest forms of the Seven Heroes can be terribly frustrating since most of them except Kujinshi or Bohkuon have little to no weakness, fighting Noel the hard way is a true test of strategy and patience as he has absolutely no weakness to exploit.

>>3274873
Hokuto no Ken has it in the Kaioh fight, where Ken knows all of Hokuto Ryuken moves and how to counter them. Saint Seiya has it that the same move is ineffective on a Saint that has already seen it. Kinnikuman makes a great deal of finishing moves, being able to see someone finishers, and being able to counter it, or make a new one, are often what determines who wins a fight. Jojo has that possessed sword that registers and nullifies new battle techniques used against it. Yu Yu Hakusho has the Dark Momotaro that by eating his dango, becomes immune to attacks used against him that he's survived before. In Kenshin, Shishio uses his subordinate's fight to learn how to counter Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki (but fails to do so as the move has a continuation he didn't know). Seeing how the opponent punches is also kind of a big deal in Hajime no Ippo, since boxers learn the rhythm, tells, reach and such of punches to be able to dodge, block, or counter them. Disgaea 5 has an evility that reduces by 30% the damage from specials that have already been used during a fight. In DD2, Rasetsu Baal completely nullifies any attack that's already been used against him during the fight with one of his evilities, so your strategy has to include using many different attacks for this reason.

In general, this is the whole reason Secret Ougis are secret. Because the more people see them, the more likely a counter will show up.

I feel like a big nerd now, but there's probably many more instances that I don't know or haven't listed.

There's also a lot of examples in Baki the Grappler, Yuujiro learning Kaku's own Xiaoli counter is actually very similar to Berva since the player can also use Sway.

Same thing Oliva did in the match with the taiwanese Kaioh where he used his own technique to troll him.
>>
>>3276054
In general I'd say it's a common trope in those fighters that 'evolve' both physically and mentally when attacked. I think I saw that in Nogami Neuro (in the AI arc), in Street Fighter 2 Victory manga (where Ryu has to switch off with Evil Ryu who basically just nukes the guy with superior firepower), DBZ with both Cell and Majin Buu, HXH with the Chimera Ant King, etc. There guys usually either become immune, or become able to use, or both.

I also just remembered Kid Radd, where the protagonist is basically a fighting savant that won't be hit by the same move twice. The people fighting him seriously try to take him down taking this in account, in fact.

On a slightly related note, Kumo desu ga nani ka, be it the webnovel, the light novel, or the manga version, uses a system where you get better at skills by using them and get more resistance the more you're hit by some kind of attack, and where skills you have are more important than your level. It feels like a very SaGa-ish world.

>>3276174
>but what else is there?
Git Gud

Jokes asides, simply try not to fuck things up, there's a few missables in the game too so be careful about those, one is the Somon Ring in Somon, you'll find it by going through the unlit fireplace in the mansion in Somon, the other is one of the bard's instruments, you can only find him in Nuono while doing Gallon's quest in a small corridor section while chasing Gallon.

Don't make the mistake of not using magic, magic is fundamental in this game and so are magic levels, the only way to learn new magic is to have high magic levels and you NEED spells to simply not die on the first turn of boss battles.

All the rest is standard SaGa fare, just more non linear and subsequently harder to manage, also, most bosses here don't fuck around so don't be surprised if they push your shit in in one turn or something.

Man, I do hope that Kawazu manages to get a go-ahead for a more comprehensive overhaul of RSaGa2 one day.

The original game does still hold up (unlike RS1), but it could really use a bit more meat on Kingdom buildings and Magic - the new Orchard is just kinda worthless (like how many battles would you need to break even, 500? And it's annoying when you're trying to get some other building to trigger)

As for magic - it really needs to be made a lot less grindy considering its absolute importance in surviving the later you get in the game. You get a nice big jump going from "Gerard can toss Fireballs, yay!" to "Ok, now you can teach magic to anyone you want with the Research Center" and then it's 7-8 hours of using the same basic spells over and over until you finally new spells worth using - that's wayyyyyy too slow a progression.

To be reasonable, it doesn't have to be a complete Minstrel Song remake with a whole bunch of budget to "change it to 3D" thing but something more like how all the romhacks for RS3 adds a bunch more mechanics into that game like Combos, Classes, etc. Crossing my fingers.
>>
>>3276525
>the new Orchard is just kinda worthless

Factually wrong, if you didn't have your Orchard you wouldn't have nearly as much money as you have right now.
It's also a nice way to measure your current BR.

>it really needs to be made a lot less grindy considering its absolute importance in surviving the later you get in the game.
If it wasn't so grindy then you'd have no reason to bother using it and actually playing as a mage since waza still outdamage spells 80% of the times like the vast majority of SaGa games and you'd just use fighters more than magicians.
>and then it's 7-8 hours of using the same basic spells over and over until you finally new spells worth using - that's wayyyyyy too slow a progression.

Uhm, no?
You simply need to know how to use it?
Once you hit level 10 most magic schools give you better attack spells or utilities, at around level 18 in earth magic you unlock Stone Shower which will become your main All Target spell until you get Galaxy, Fusion Spells give you more gimmicks to use and better base spells, and Saint Fire even lets you damage undeads very effectively, more than any other spell bar Galaxy and Crimson Flare.
Fusion Spells also give you chances of getting levels in both schools involved, so that's arguably the best way to level up instead of spamming fireball or Wind Cutter.
If you're complaining about getting Quicktime, Galaxy, Dragon Pulse or Crimson Flare too late it's because they're that good and they can only be balanced that way given RomaSaGa 2's design.

I know how you feel about wanting a proper remake, but like what happened with the first RomaSaGa it would turn out to be an almost completely different game.
I'd love it too if they put some stuff like combos, adding classes would be meaningless because the system already works on its own class design, I'd also love if they made all the characters a bit more different because palette swaps are a bit ehhh and it would fit namings more.
>>
>>3276442
the remaster, I understand
>>
>>3276548

Not that guy, but does even using magic on characters that only gain a few levels on it help the global level overall in order to gain access to fusion spells? I'm using Water/Earth/Light on my non-mages on the side thinking that it'll help in the long run because of the global level.

Well, if you play the remaster things are kind of easier, some because bugs from the original release got fixed, others because of some new content like the orchard giving you more income and other stuff like the maze of memories and Viktor's sidequest giving you money and new accessories that are pretty fucking good compared to most of the original accessories in the game.
Still, it's a pretty tough game nonetheless, just not balls to the walls masochistic like the originals, and mostly, in a good way.

>>3276658
>but does even using magic on characters that only gain a few levels on it help the global level overall in order to gain access to fusion spells?

As long as those levels raise your max known level, yes, that's the important thing, always have one character specialize in a school and raise that school's level, eventually the general proficiency will set a generic level based on the highest level reached.

I'm trying Saga Frontier, my first one (other than the GB games), but I'm stuck. I picked Asellus, I've been attacked by and beat a fire sage and a water sage. I can't beat the green one. I've wandered aimlessly through every city I know of, and, to my knowledge, I only really have 3 courses of action.

1: Kill the green sage, which I assume continues the story
2: Go back to Sei's tomb and kill super tough skeleton dude with his other 4 skeletons who kill me in 2 turns
3: Do one of those side quests to learn a "gift" for magic, which also involves super tough enemies

But I can't even succeed in those! Asellus and White Rose are pretty tough, but my other companions are just weak ass shits (A monster named Cotton, a monster named Thunder, and Lute). I did have some pansy mage named Rouge or something, but he kept dying in the first turn of every fight so I switched him for a monster. I'm tempted to just go grind to raise their stats (I mean how the hell is Lute going to do anything for me with 90 HP?) and to get money but I keep hearing that grinding is bad in these games.

I know I'm doing something wrong, I just don't know what it is. It's like, my experience is "wander aimlessly -> SUPER STRONG ENEMY WHO KILLS ME -> wander aimlessly". Should I start over? I remember some monster guy in the beginning who was selling strong stuff for LP. Maybe I should have done that.
>>
>>3277949
You need to recruit stronger party members

I'd recommend you go back and get the mermaid from the place where she swam away for starters. You can also maybe just use one monster, or maybe no monsters because Mystics and Monsters compete for resources.

Mecs usually make things easy mode but Asellus can't get any. That means you need someone else.

I believe Asellus can recruit Dr Nusakan from the koorong back street clinic, who is one of the strongest choices for a mystic party member.

The magic gift quests can be difficult, but can also wind up getting you some very strong party members. I'd recommend Initiating both the Rune quest and the Arcane quest, just to open things up. Then you can go from starting the Arcane quest:
>go to koorong and try to go to wakatu
>they won't let you so go talk to the skeleton on the street in koorong
>he mentions a guy from there who's probably getting drunk in scrap
>go to scrap where you picked up Lute
>talk to the guy in the white T-shirt and recruit him, he's a top tier sword-guy

You can also easily get Emelia after starting the arcane quest by doing the sequence at Baccarat and then running out of there after you get her, she's also a pretty great sword user, though it doesn't seem like it at first.

Just by starting the Rune quest you can go to Mu's tomb in Shrike and recruit Roufas, who starts out quite strong and has good starting gear.

Once you get a team of characters you like you can start grinding without too many problems, but focus on finding treasures instead of combat, I recommend getting the treasures from the two ruins areas in Shingrow, starting with the temple, then moving on to the wrecked ship after.
>>
>>3277980
I should mention that you should wait until after the labyrinth portion of asellus' quest if you want to get the mermaid

I don't remember but I don't think she'll join you until after
>>
>>3277980
>I'd recommend you go back and get the mermaid from the place where she swam away for starters.
I actually tried doing that before, but going down to the basement triggers the mean green sage to attack. He also attacks in Baccarat and Sei's tomb. I wonder if these locations would trigger boss fights in other characters too.
>koorong back street clinic
Man I wandered that city forever and didn't find a guy like that. Occasionally I'd try going through a door but an NPC will yell at me and won't let me. But I wouldn't be surprised if I missed it.

I also spent all my money in that city on armor for Asellus which I don't think was a good idea. Apparently she and White Rose get stronger by absorbing enemies? I wasn't really aware of that at the time, and I still don't quite understand it. I thought absorbing enemies just gave us new attacks.

Thanks for the advice though, I didn't think of starting the magic quests just to open up new places. Hopefully this will work out and I'm not just completely trapped by this green wizard bastard.

>>
>>3278051
Hell, I walked right by that place. I remember going into the sewer near it, but I completely didn't see that building.

Could have just been my TV acting up or something. I spent the first 2 hours thinking the game was just supposed to be practically pitch-black for atmosphere before I just turned the brightness up. Navigating the basement in the lord's manor was tough before that. And the entire first area in Fasiwhateveru, I have no idea what that place was meant to look like. Wish I'd taken a picture.
>>
>>3278003
Oh also, Mystics work by having 3 skill slots each of which can absorb a monster. They do give different techniques yes, but also, absorbing a monster will give a set of Stat bonuses, which is useful because Mystics don't gain stats except HP/JP and Charm.

Asellus works differently in that she can grow stats as a human, but also she can use a mystic ability to transform, which adds the mystic stat bonuses on top of that.

If that sounds OP it's because it is, she can easily reach 99 stat values with a minimum of effort.

Typically the most obvious monster to absorb is just a set of 3 Suzaku, since Suzaku gives +20 to all stats, but this isn't really automatically the best option, as you won't get the best abilities out of it, though perhaps if you mostly used magic it's not a bad idea.

What I usually do is try to find something that will give me my favorite mystic techniques (these are Griffith Scratch, Tiger rampage, Oscillation, and MagicHeal) and fill the rest of the slots with Suzakus to round out my weaknesses (most of the monsters that give you those abilities have strong, unbalanced bonuses. Except the Griffin who you only fight one of in Asellus' quest and can give 25s instead of the 20s that Suzaku gives, as well as teaching Griffith Scratch)
>>
>>3277980
>You need to recruit stronger party members
Lute (the fruit) sucks, but Rouge is actually probably candidate for one of the strongest Mage characters in the game.

>You can also maybe just use one monster, or maybe no monsters because Mystics and Monsters compete for resources.
Um... I disagree. A little conflict, but you don't need to absorb enemies THAT often for Mystics.

Also don't use a lot of Mystics - at least Asellus has access to the good ones, which includes Asellus herself, Meserathim and Nusakan, but Mystics as a race are considered pretty low tier overall.
>>
>>3278124
Naw mystics are great as long as you don't overgrind

as long as you're in the sub500 HP region they're totally perfectly fine.

The thing with not using mystics and monsters at the same time is that you tend to only fight boss monsters one at a time which means only one chance to absorb. The overlap with monsters isn't too much there I guess, you could have one monster in a mystic party and not make out too bad, but it's unnecessarily complicated and monsters are hard to use for a new player.
>>
>>3278136
What sort of boss monster would you want to absorb for monsters though? I think you can get a ZeroWorm solely through random battle mobs, although I do agree that an unspoiled player would never put that off - he could probably luck into TrisaurJr with Thunder though.

CentipedeCrusher (that's not it's name, I forget it's name), Platyhooks, OoD Suzaku, Quakeworm (good source of MagicHeal/Quake), Devilsquid, Sphinx, OoD monsters from the Light Maze (intentionally make the red color to get into a battle with something powerful), Red Dragon, Black Dragon, Valkyrie Sisters, Bone Dragon (very early access to flame breath), King Sei (Minion Strike), Jotnar, Kyrin (though why not just recruit Kyrin if you want a monster), basically any instance where you can intentionally fight monsters stronger than your battle rank a limited number of times (like monster-in-a-box)

>Bokhohn fucked me
Bokuohn crumbles in front of Rapid Stream, that's why you should always make peace with Enrique, dealing wih Marionette without Rapid Stream is really frustrating, I know that.
If you have the Dragon formation you can put a Ninja or a City Thief in there and you'll probably have a pseudo Rapid Stream, also, Bokuohn is weak to cutting modifiers so rev up dem swords and axes.
>I got to the mushroom boss in the tower in the jungle and got shit on
Eh, this is a bit embarassing, but get some Axe user to fuck it up, I suggest you deal with the Sentinel in the ruins of Eilunep first and/or deal with the mushroom boss with a Male Emps and forgive Roc, otherwise you'll have to fight her straight after the boss and if you lose, or even get all the surviving party members charmed she'll force you to fight the Sentinel, and the Sentinel is arguably stronger than the Giant in the ruins.
>the giant in the ice ruins fucked me
The Giant is strong but you can beat him at low levels with a formation focused on counters and he can be stunned with your waza, so have someone with a counter waza in position 1 of Imperial Cross and speedy units focused on stunning the shit out of him so that one or two attackers can chip away his health, mind that he has the Crane/Water Fowl Sword waza so he can hit vertical lines in formation so Imperial Cross is still a risky tactic, but it can pay off.
And as I told you, he guards the Emerald Axe, he needs to be tough.
>every boss just seems unstoppable
They almost are, you need good equipment and strategy to deal with them, most have weaknesses or attacks that can be blocked with spells or formations, you haven't seen anything yet, first form Noel alone is much more terrifying than anything you've faced.
Don't give up bro, I'm rooting for you.
>>
>>3277949
I suggest you do the Tarot and Rune quests so you can build up other characters, do get the Grail Card first though, if you wait too much you'll be forced to deal with Krakens while drunk and chances are you'll get fucked.
Sei is pretty strong considering how you are now so don't deal with him, his equipment is also pretty good for intermediate gameplay and his shield can really save your ass, I hope you haven't saved after putting his treasure on he altars though, you can't get those back if you did.
Cotton is pretty weak, monsters in general shouldn't be used by beginners because they are the weakest race, Thunder can easily moprh into a Triceratops though which is a pretty good party member for the early game and can carry your weaker party members until they get strong enough.
>I just don't know what it is
It's normal, don't worry.
You should concentrate on building a 5 men party first of all, switching people around too much in the early to mid gameplay isn't good, you'll end up with a powerful MC but mediocre party members, and as you know, you'll get fucked up.
Asellus is part of the Monster Trio together with Red and Blue, she doesn't need too much care but using her Mystic powers too much also affects the ending, so don't abuse the mystic weapons if you want a good ending, White Rose is a great Healer but don't get too attached to her, Rouge is your go to mage unless you're Blue, so treasure him and make him strong, other than those, Asellus has access to a lot of Mystics, but you'll need to learn how they work first, you might want to get Gen for a cheap and strong melee party member, to get him you need to take the Tarot quest and talk to the skeleton in Koorong.
> I remember some monster guy in the beginning who was selling strong stuff for LP. Maybe I should have done that.
Gozarus has one critical item that can break Asellus' game, the Ashura, all the other items are next to worthless, so just pick the Ashura and give it to Asellus.
>>
>>3278168
>that's why you should always make peace with Enrique
Speaking of that - I signed the truce but still can't recruit Armed Merchants for some reason
>>
>>3278184
To get the merchants you'll have to wait a for at least one generation shift to trigger after you've completed the first quest in Morbellum/Nuono and you must have added a few areas to your empire.

If you made peace with Enrique, at some point you'll see that Nuono doesn't appear in North Rongit anymore and your tax income has gone down a bit, go to Morbellum in the house where the merchants were and talk to Enrique, he'll tell you that a guy named Gallon ambushed them and drove them out of Nuono with the help of Subier.

Now you have two options, either take the ship and go through the caves in Nuono or you could take a detour by going through the Harrier caves, talking to the granny in Tifarl will unlock that route if you haven't already done that before.

Remember to take the bard's instrument while you chase Gallon through the corridor, if you don't you won't have any other chance.

are Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 like this?
>>
>>3279230
>is the whole game like this?
Very yes. Also gold stops counting at 9999. You're supposed to sell something before it hits 9999 so it surpasses it and you get a gem instead. Oh, and there's no auto-heal after a battle, so you better buy a lot of salves.
RS1 has issues.

I can't tell you about RS2 but no, 3 isn't like that at all.
>>
>>3279230
>I like RPGs with no random encounters, but this is overboard
I wish I could show that game to anyone who thinks that on-screen enemies are always better than random encounters.

RS2 has some areas that are really bad about it and they almost all tend to be really tight areas.

Minstrel Song finally introducing Sneaking skills are like a godsend - too bad that was the last non-remake (until Scarlet Grace is released.)
>>

Yeah, that's why everyone prefers the remake.
>are Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 like this?
RomaSaGa 2 has some areas like that in a few quests, RomaSaGa 3 has a lot less enemies than both the previous titles.
>>
>>3279230
If you are playing the PS2 version you have to learn enemy type behaviors to juke them since all the enemies can move faster than your "run" rate. You can even do it in the narrow areas in Valhallaland.

Though if you are talking about the SNES version then good luck mate. Just watching a video turns me off in seeing how many enemies are on screen.
>>
>>3280337
My memory isn't that good, but on the other side I believe that escaping doesn't consume LP and ER is tied to average HP, like in RS3.
So it's more manageable.
>>
Meru Oops I mean Melu Desert is a lot less painful once I realized that the game "rolls" when you try to enter the Oasis and rerolls whenever you fight a battle, so all you got to do is save -> try to enter -> reload -> fight one battle -> try to enter -> repeat until you get in, instead of running back and forth the map constantly trying to get the Oasis to appear.

Still kind of a stupid way to handle things, but at least you save so much more time than doing it without save-scumming.
>>
http://cache.sqex-bridge.jp/guest/information/18699

Now this is interesting. I guess they plan to make the corrupted Seven Heroes playable like they did with their uncorrupted forms. I know Noel and Rocbouquet would be easy to make into characters because they're already the most human-like, but I wonder how they plan to handle Wagnas and Subier.

In RS2 when a character loses all their LP and dies, do they lose the proficiency levels they gained like how they lose newly learned wazas?

I think I'm just gonna give it a week or so and then start over again and make a spreadsheet to keep track of characters and the proficiencies and who needs to learn what kind of magic. By virtue of how you have to replace them with a new character, yes.
>>
>>3281185
>do they lose the proficiency levels they gained like how they lose newly learned wazas?

Yes, those new learned waza will be available to you after a generation shift though.

>>3281201
There is one way to replace Rapid Stream, that is developing Fairy Light in the magic research center, Fairy Light buffs your speed, but it's a Self spell, meaning you'll have to teach it to everyone, Fairy Light+Dragon formation is effectively almost equal Rapid Stream, especially if you have a Emperor with 20+ speed.

I'm also having fun with RS2, how many generations are there before the final emperor anyways?
>>
>>3284490
I think it varies, but depends on how many Seven Heroes you're able to kill. Usually you'll get the final emperor after killing at least four of them, IIRC. Someone else probably knows the math better than me.
>>
>>3284490
>how many generations are there before the final emperor anyways?
Given the game's system it varies zero to quite a few.
If you do the suicide emperor challenge, you can go straight to the last emperor without generation shifts from Gerard's generation, shifts still happen so you still get waza and facilities, but iirc the year gap is just one or two and you still play as the last emperor so it's not an orthodox generation shift anyway.

Iirc, the max known mechanical year cap is 4000 years or so, the maximum year span for a generation before a shift kicks in is 250 years so doing the math it should be around twelve generation shifts since the game begins at year 1000.
It's been some time since I tried that so I might remember something wrong, but the game is still very flexible given all the mechanics involved.
>>
Does anyone know what the Ninja's tech type is? I'm guessing Greatswords, which would be kind of bizarre, but then she says she wants to show me her martial prowess and I'm thinking Unarmed.

>>3284490
It's usually 5 heroes killed including the forced Kujinshi fight in the opening (or 4 more if you don't count him)

Alternatively, as >>3284717 implies, you can get the Last Emperor early by literally killing off all of your candidates until the game runs out of them to pick and throws you the Last Emperor. That might take a while though
>>
>>3284843
>Does anyone know what the Ninja's tech type is?

I'm pretty sure they mostly share the brawler/mountain monk types since I've learned almost every mid to top martial art waza from them, probably a few of them are sword users but I've used three ninjas so far and they all sparked more martial arts waza than sword waza.
>>
Is Leon designed to not be able to spark skills?
>>
>>3286058
Yes, Him, "White Pajamas" version of Gerard and Coppelia are the three characters who can't spark anything.

>EVERYONE gets windmill, chi concentration, matador, parry, block, and the weapon specific techs

Type 7 being the category that those three characters belong to and the worst one.

What the hell is up with RS2's Emperor selection system, I think I've sent my entire line of Light Infantry to the corn fields and I still haven't gotten a Privateer roll (and it is available for recruitment, so I did unlock it)
>>
>>3287154
Might happen, as I said before there's quite a few ways to get around that.

To be perfectly clear though, let me explain them all very thouroughly:

1)Make a save before the event that trigger a generation shift, be that a boss fight or a dialogue, and fight a battle before that. If the trigger is a boss fight, i.e. Seven Heroes/Boss in the Viktor Canal fight, just repeat that, that's enough to grant a reroll, you do need a fight for the reroll to trigger though.

2)Kill off your party, that will trigger another choice for the emperor, that is counterproductive though, so you might want to use method 3.

3)Kill off your emperor/empress as soon as you get it, go suicide on the Rudon plains.

3.1)Kill off your emperor/empress by having the class you want in your party, if only the emperor dies of LP loss then your party members get chosen as successors in the pool, you can exploit this as soon as you get a certain accessory, but I can't possibly spoil the surprise because it's fun stuff.
>>
>>3287345
You actually don't have to worry about spoiling me, because I've played this game several times already (although I have never beaten Meatball, maybe I should just win through abuse)

This playthrough is my first on the Android version though and I've had some strange oddities with my luck - for instance, I couldn't get Exorcism to trigger at all in the entire game so far.

I'm fairly certain I know which accessory you're speaking of but the behaviour might have been changed - I think it drains LP from everyone OTHER than your Emperor now when you use the inn.
>>
>>3287447
>although I have never beaten Meatball, maybe I should just win through abuse

Meatball is kind of nastier now that bugs have been fixed, but I've beaten it without Overdrive, they did fuck me up three times though, I went in fairly underleveled with only 700 HP or so on all characters.

>I think it drains LP from everyone OTHER than your Emperor now when you use the inn.

Unless there's a bug in the Android version I can say it does work like in the SNES original since I used it quite a few times on my emperor to get a few formations, it works just fine.

RS2:
Is there anything special about the Fujin/Wind God Sword (Consistency, translators)? I actually thought it worked like Frontier's Light Sword but apparently it persists after battle, which is... weird
>>
>>3287587
You can learn Kamaitachi and another waza from it, though you can only use them with that sword.

>but apparently it persists after battle, which is... weird

Yes, the spell permanently embeds the sword in one of your slots, you can't take it out once you summon it, same thing with another fusion spell called Claw Extend, but you'll need Dark magic to get it.
They're also one-use spells, once you use them it's useless to cast them again.

There is another fusion spell which is kind of similar, and it's the one Noel uses in his first phase, it's Heat Hand, though that merely adds two martial arts waza to your skillset, you'll need to recast Heat Hand every battle to access those though.

How am I supposed to know what weapons to use for each class? Do you just go with whatever they already have good attributes in?
>>
>>3288721
>Do you just go with whatever they already have good attributes in?

Mostly, yes.
Certain classes, like most of the militia like James are kinda difficult to infer, you'd want to check a Type table for that.

Generally though, the starting equipment and proficiencies give away what that class is USUALLY good at, though certain characters in the same class have different tables.

But you hardly need to look at tables unless you want to be 100% sure you get certain waza like Berserk, Privateers/Sea Merchants are your go to class for sparking Axe waza, East Guards are your Great Sword class, Mu Herder/Saigo Clans are great with Hammers and so on.

Put An End To A Tasty Meatball.jpg
59KB, 776x529px
Oh wow, didn't actually expect to accomplish this - my best attacker was like a Privateer with Yo-Yo at 2000 after Gilden Strength and the 999 Regen per round really hurts damage output when a string of bad rolls near the end led to a situation where Ghost Light charmed my only Firewall caster who proceeded to cast Gilden Strength on the meatball causing all of its usually weak attacks to just one-shot my characters and also he used Maelstrom (I guess it's Tidal Wave now) twice times in a row.

Ironically I somehow killed it with Firewall with my Emperor as the last man standing on the field - everyone else was dead or ran out of resources long ago.

I wonder if it's just me or are Foil and Bow users not particular good for damage even with high-end techs and top-end weapons? I probably should have swapped Moleman for some other class if I knew.
>>
>>3289970

>firestorm did an absurd amount of damage to my entire party.

>>3290596

Yeah, that's the surprise I was talking about before, and if you equip it you can't take it out either, it's a good accessory though, wards off Charm as well.

>>3290901

Congrats, Ghost Light is really annoying and can mess you up depending on who gets targeted,

>I wonder if it's just me or are Foil and Bow users not particular good for damage

Pretty much, the problem with foils is that the strongest one still has only 28 ATK while every other weapon gets more than 40, so even with a good character with lots of DEX and proficiency, Final Letter isn't going to hit nearly as hard as anything else.

Bows have better ATK modifiers but the waza suck in terms of damage and are mostly geared for All Target damage, which is still rendered obsolete by stuff like Afterimage Sword, which is less costly and hits almost as hard most of the times.

Foils are great because they specialize in gimmicks, they can paralize, confuse, instakill frog types even in rows, stun, instakill in general, Screwdriver has a bonus against female eniemes, they're pretty versatile as support offense, if the game had a combo system they would be the Minstrel Song equivalent of polearms.
I never fight the giant in the frozen ruins without someone with a foil because they're extremely good at stunning and most foil users are very fast characters, meaning I can try to get the Amethyst Axe even without needing Rapid Stream.

>>
>>3291617
Dude the only attack in the game that's stronger than Heavenly Weaver is Scattered Petals, Pole Arms are literally sitting at top tier with only Katanas above them. Even Nine Marks isn't as strong because it's limited by your inherent martial arts attack modifier.

Just a heads up, I think I found a gamebreaking bug. It's in the raid on the Canal Fortress part, near the beginning. I:

1) Dismissed the guy in the pub who offers to help you brute force your way in by declining his offer. He's gone.
2) Attempted to force my way in on my own, and fled the battle.

Now when I try and activate the Thieves Guild/Sewers quest, my Emperor refuses to ask the Thieves Guild master to help him get into Canal Fortress, just saying "Never mind." As far as I can tell, my only option is to force my way in the front door (which is possible apparently?) but I'm terribly underpowered and there's nowhere to grind.

Am I fucked? Should I restart? This was gonna be my playthrough where I dummied through it and didn't worry about missing anything so I didn't really want to restart yet.
>>
>>3293956
>Regardless of feasibility unless I build up parties a bit, what are some cool quells to get

In terms of normal treasure to find in the fields, I'd say everything is worth getting, especially all the hidden quells like the beast lance in the frozen megalith in Weissland, and all the tools you get can be turned to chips the moment you get Quells, which is nice.
If you want to try enemy drops though good luck with that, tons of enemies have unique drops, you might want to get the Red/Black Stone Armor from the Gargoyles bosses as it's a very good piece of equipment or try your patience on a Mystic Veil, but it's a very tedious process, farming Dead Stones from skellies is pretty useful against the Egg though, especially if you feel like a badass and want to take him at full power, you'll pretty much need a Dead Stone on every party member.
>>3294750
>I think I found a gamebreaking bug

It's not a bug, it's normal, you can't ask the thieves to help you out if you've already started the quest on your own, same thing happens when you get in the floating Hakuro Castle with Hiraga's helicopter, get wiped out and ask the Iris tribe to get you there, they won't help you because the quest flag has already been activated.

Some quest flags are quite nasty, for instance, if you leave the Mermaid quest leaving around until the last generation you straight up can't clear that since you'll get a forced game over due to the Last Emps fucking off with his mermaid waifu.

>but I'm terribly underpowered and there's nowhere to grind.

Don't complete it then, do the Saigo Clan quest instead, the fight in Viktor Canal, like any other quest isn't mandatory or timed, you can do it even after Gerald's generation just fine, completing the Viktor Canal quest only gives you one way access to North Rongit and a new city there.
>>
>>3294872
Wow, there's more to this than I thought. Thank you.
>>
>>3294872
You really need at least one Mystic Veil if you want to fight the full powered egg, it's unrealistic to beat it otherwise because you will end up in a situation where your entire party is disabled with mental status effects (I think it was Palsy?)

In terms of Life Protect, there are alternatives to the dead stones such as the Dryad Grail.

Okay that's literally the only one. It's also not totally necessary, or really just not as necessary as having sonic protection and psyche protection. Also probably make sure to be wearing Lake Robe/Stardust Robe/Blackstone Armor on all characters for raw magic def, Crystal Wings or Elven Lyre or Canary Heart for sonic protect, Greaves of Titus for Earth protect, krisknife beowulf and as many water mirrors as you can get.

I used to have a list/site with a list of all the equipment attributes datamined out of the game, but I totally can't find it now. "Arcane Knowledge" or something like that? that website had a lot of info on Legend of Mana and Saga Frontier too

RomaSaGa 2 is pretty quirky in terms of quest flags, sometimes it does give you the impression of being bugged but it actually works that way, as strange as it might look.

I think that another example would be getting to Bokuohn, if you get to the ship using the Tactician questline I don't think you can get inside again using the slave questline for instance, then again, I'm not quite sure of that since I never tried that way.
>>3294928
>You really need at least one Mystic Veil if you want to fight the full powered egg

I might be terribly wrong on this, but isn't there a Quell/Ring which gives protection against mental statuses? Having a few Mystic Veils would be better anyway but I don't think it's that vital if you got al the treasures in the game, I'd rather have dead stones on everyone, at least, if I'm playing any other version of the game that isn't the JP one since Star Quake doesn't sap LPs there.

>I used to have a list/site with a list of all the equipment attributes datamined out of the game, but I totally can't find it now.

I remember that, I think some Anon posted a link last year when we were still having regular threads, it's probably still in the archives, maybe it was even you who posted it.

Alright, I just finished the game with Asellus. Thanks for the advice from before. Once I gathered some better party members, I had a much less difficult time. My final party was Asellus+Gen+Rouge+Lute+Mesarthim. I recruited some Space Magic Monster guy, but I just couldn't figure out how to use him well, so I used Mesarthim instead. I went to that scary Mystic dude in Koorong, but every time I entered his lab, the game made me leave.

I had a lot of fun, and the fight with Orlouge was difficult enough. Thankfully the game let me wander off to go get a bit stronger. I had gone to the Biolab before, but I noticed the monsters were significantly stronger, so I absorbed some Suzakus. And I don't think I would have survived without Rouge's Tower spell.

I have a few questions, hopefully I can ask them without getting too spoiled on stuff.
1: After I finished the game, it did something with my system data. So when I start a new game, am I supposed to overwrite my Asellus save? Or use a different save slot? Or what?
2: Is there a benefit to using multiple teams? By the end I had 3 teams of people, but I was only using my main 5, and felt no need to get the other teams up to speed.
3: I killed a seemingly optional boss called "Giant" on the way to Orlouge. I opened the door behind it, but couldn't do anything beyond that. What's the point?
4: Asellus seemingly went mad with power. Is there a different ending if I play again without using mystic abilities at all? (of course, don't spoil it or anything).

If I play again, I guess I'd ask Sei to join instead of just taking his sword. I guess I'd do Rune magic instead of Tarot and Shadow instead of light. And maybe I'll try to find that mystic with time magic. I guess I could try a different character instead, but Asellus is the cutest.
>>
>>3298741
>I went to that scary Mystic dude in Koorong, but every time I entered his lab, the game made me leave.
It's possible that you either have to have or not have White Rose in your party at the time. I know there are other things Asellus won't do until she leaves.
>>
>>3298748
Maybe I have to have her, I believe I instantly went there after White Rose left.
By the way, was the Labyrinth section supposed to be difficult? Maybe I just got lucky, but I just walked through a few doors, fought one monster, and got out. Orlouge needs to make think up some better torture.
>>
Does The Last Remnant count as a SaGa game? I've seen it referenced as such numerous times.
>>
>>3298741
>1: After I finished the game, it did something with my system data. So when I start a new game, am I supposed to overwrite my Asellus save? Or use a different save slot? Or what?
Your system data should have it's own save slot on the memory card, and it should only get updated every time you start and finish another character. You don't need to erase the old character's file, because the system data is separate. You get a special reward for finishing all the characters with one system data.
>2: Is there a benefit to using multiple teams? By the end I had 3 teams of people, but I was only using my main 5, and felt no need to get the other teams up to speed.
Whenever you win a battle, the characters who are in reserve will recover some of their WP and JP. I'm not sure about LP, but that's about it.
>3: I killed a seemingly optional boss called "Giant" on the way to Orlouge. I opened the door behind it, but couldn't do anything beyond that. What's the point?
You didn't save Gina?
>4: Asellus seemingly went mad with power. Is there a different ending if I play again without using mystic abilities at all? (of course, don't spoil it or anything).
Okay yeah. You got the most based ending.

For your reference, the endings are Human ending, Half-Mystic ending, and Mystic ending, depending on how often you ended the battle in mystic mode vs normal mode and how much you developed your mystic powers and mystic magic and whatnot. You got the mystic ending where Asellus becomes the new Reverse Harem Charm Lord. Maybe she grows a dick or something I'm not sure how mystics work, but that would be hot.
>>
>>3298751
You got lucky, some people wander for an hour without stumbling into the right route.
>>
>>3298769
>You didn't save Gina?
I opened the door, but I couldn't walk through it, and pressing buttons didn't do anything either. I assumed it's some secret or something.
She was alive in the ending though.
I might play again for the Human ending, but Half-Mystic sounds like it might be tough. How can I really know how many times to use mystic powers for it to be "just enough", without going overboard?
>>
>>3298784
I think you might have opened the window but didn't find the way into the room behind it

My memory of that specific area is a little fuzzy.
>>
>>3298784
if you use her abilities enough to unlock all her mystic weapons, and you learn some of the mystic magic, and you use them often enough to keep their absorbs updated, while mostly finishing random battles as a human, and use mystic transformation against bosses only, and also you save Gina, you'll probably get the half-mystic ending.

Actually I'm pretty sure anytime you would get the mystic ending, but you save Gina, you'll get the half-mystic ending instead.
>>
>>3298813
Wouldn't be the first time I missed over something obvious. When I backtracked through areas I found so many doors I missed just because I thought they were part of the background. I'm sure I probably missed all sorts of treasure.

Took me like 2 hours just to leave Facinaturu in the beginning, though that was because I didn't turn the brightness up and everything was black...
>>
>>3298827
Interesting. I saved before even entering Orlouge's room, so I guess I'll try to see if I can backtrack and find Gina.
>>
>>3298760

I'm pretty sure Kawazu worked on it. I've put a couple hours into it and while it's more straightforward and I guess "focused," it's still got the whole "a million obtuse systems" thing going on.
>>
>>3298834
Well, it didn't work out. I saved her, killed Orlouge again, and got the same evil ending. (Rising Nova + Rosario Impale + Tower combo, Orlouge didn't even know what hit him).
I don't like evil Asellus, I want her and Gina to live happily ever after, not as some weird mutant master/slave relationship!

Nice, Kyrin is a bit eh to use since space magic isn't as versatile as other schools, Mesarthim is much better only because of her mass healing, which is pretty much priceless.
>1
You can overwrite as much as you want, just leave the system data file alone, once you finish all the stories...
>2
The teams that don't fight completely recover over time, so yes, there is a benefit.
>3
Should have saved Nina
>4
Asellus has three different endings depending on whether you save Nina and the use of your Mystic weapons, you got the "bad" full Mystic ending where she becomes Orlouge 2.0.
>>3298760
The Last Remnant is produced by Kawazu and directed by Hiroshi Takai, one of Kawazu's partners in crime and the man behind a lot of SaGa battle systems, so yes, it is a SaGa game in very thin disguise, so thin that most of the waza and spells are exactly the same as SaGa.
>>3298903
>I want her and Gina to live happily ever after
Ehhhh, about that...the full mystic ending is actually the less bittersweet for Gina out of the three, though if I had to choose, I'd take the half mystic as it's the better for everyone for me.

So is there any way to boost the chance of getting an HP boost in SaGa 2 besides just surviving each battle? I can't come close to beating Apollo and I feel I need to grind so I can more easily survive his Flare.

I've been trying to play this game off and on for about a year after beating the first SaGa, starting it, getting confused or frustrated, stopping for a while, forgetting where I am, and starting over, and I'm finally close to the end so I really want to beat it this time.
>>
>>3301448
You could try to manipulate RNG by saving, resetting, loading, getting in a battle with something slower than you and doing something, see if it gives you a hp boost, and if it does, save, resetting, loading, and do the same thing, which should give you a hp boost again.
>>
>>3301460
Oh hey, that seems to work! Haven't gotten an HP boost but I've managed to get the same meat three times in a row so it seems like it'd work for boosts as well. Thanks, I don't like grinding when I can avoid it but I feel I can't beat Apollo without getting my HP above the one-shot threshold.
>>
>>3300864
>I just finished the Cygnus fight as Red and most of my party walked out on me. Can I get them back? Should I have swiped their equipment?

Yes and no. Yes.

I think Roufas is there and you can recruit him later. You can't recruit Asellus. Red is the only character other than Blue and Emelia that can recruit Liza so make sure you do that later.

I hope you recruited BJ&K because he's exclusive to Red's scenario and thats the only chance you get. You need to get BJ&K and Rabbit if you want to make an all-mec party for Alkaiser, though that means not using Liza, Doll, or Fuse, so I usually don't bother. (the other 2 mecs are T260G and Engineercar, both of whom are top-tier characters in general)

Started my second playthrough, and my party is mostly the same except I have Emilia instead of Lute. I tried getting the guy in Mu's Tomb, but nobody I talk to will join me. As well I can't seem to make any progress on the rune quest in Koorong. A dude tells me to speak to the blonde, but I talk to the only blonde in town I can find and she just says "Stay back!"
And so far, I still can't speak to scary mystic scientist man.

I noticed that I can climb up the tower in Facinaturu at the beginning (I never knew about it on my first playthrough). I fought a few monsters but didn't go too high. Is the Giant boss up there at the beginning? And if so, if you were to somehow win that early in the game, could you still enter Gina's cell and get some funny dialogue?

Most SaGa characters are pretty normal though, with the exception of Frontier being really over the top and a few oddballs in the series like Boston, Anzan and Platy, most of the rest are pretty normal, although flamboyant character types.
>>3304948
>>3304948
>I tried getting the guy in Mu's Tomb, but nobody I talk to will join me. As well I can't seem to make any progress on the rune quest in Koorong
It's strange that you can't get Roufas or Annie to talk to you, are you sure you don't have something like the Tarot quest in progress? that might be the reason, I don't remember Frontier having level flags for those events and characters but I might be wrong of course.
Anyway, you might want to see if you can trigger Tanzer by travelling to another region, if you haven't already of course, and I don't think you actually need Nusakan to get the Rune in the underground cave in Koorong when playing as Asellus.
One other thing, you can do both the Rune and the Tarot quests if you want to but iirc those who were present after you completed one event will have their gift overwritten with the last one.
>Is the Giant boss up there at the beginning?
Yes
>could you still enter Gina's cell and get some funny dialogue?
Never actually tried but I don't think it's possible, iirc Facinaturu's BR for those dungeon segments is fixed, but this is SaGa we're talking about so with some patience and masochism you MIGHT be able to do so, kinda hard with only Asellus and White Rose and no Mystic Weapon.
Did you get the Asura from Gozarus by the way?
>>
>>3304948
You can climb up, the giant is there, and you can beat him if you want to (learning martial arts counters makes it pretty easy, though there's a lot of grind to do that), but there's nothing you can do there yet, I think you can make it to the flower garden, but you can't go any further.

Roufas is in Mu's tomb and you have to give him some sort of response about victory being the true sign of manliness and he'll come with you, but you have to go to the dead-end left path, and he'll only join you after you've started the Rune quest and have the pebbles in your inventory.

Annie should be standing outside the restaurant in Koorong and will take you to Despair any time after you start the Rune quest as well. You might have to go in and talk to Liza first though.

Also, it turns out Dr Nusakan will join Blue but not Asellus, which is probably where I got mixed up, as I knew it was someone other than Riki and thought "well Asellus is the mystic quest so".

You won't get sent to Tanzer until you pick up one of the runes, after which point you will immediately be forced into that part of the quest as soon as you try to ride another region ship, regardless of your destination.

Remember that you absolutely have to go to Devin and start the Rune quest before Roufas or Annie will listen to you.
>>
>>3305041
Yeah I got Asura this time, the beginning was a steamroll because of it. It's funny because on my first run I thought White Rose was a beast, she was my best party member. But now that I know what I'm doing a bit more, she's my weakest link. But I want to use her until it's time for her to go.

I do have both Tarot and Rune quests active. I didn't finish any Tarot quests, nor do I intend to. But I did recruit Emelia and Gen.
Maybe there is a conflict. I remember on my first run, I had the Rune quest active, but the game wouldn't let me descend into Mu's Tomb. The door would say "DANGER" but would just block me and not give me an option to go in.

>>3305113
There's a guy who talks about manliness, close to the room with the Mimic, but that's it. He won't say anything else. I get no option to say anything. Hahaha, well, that's pretty much what happens with SaGa, metaknowledge can radically change how you play or see the game.
White Rose is a pretty solid Mystic though, you shouldn't underestimate her, her limits are the same as all the other mystics bar Time Lord who is a special case due to time magic being OP.
>But I did recruit Emelia and Gen.
Found the problem, you have the Tarot questline active, until you finish it you won't be able to start the Rune questline, it's not a bad choice though, the Grail Card quest is a pain at higher level, it's always the first thing I do in every run in Frontier because fuck fighting Krakens while drunk.

>Found the problem, you have the Tarot questline active, until you finish it you won't be able to start the Rune questline,
It still seems odd though. I recruited Gen and Emelia, but was still able to enter Mu's Tomb and even defeated the boss and got the Victory Rune. But still, he won't join me. I guess I'm just confused as to why the game would let me do that, but nothing else involving the rune quests while the tarot quests are active.

> because fuck fighting Krakens while drunk.
I think I remember you warning me about that on my first run. I ended up having to do it anyway. I only got through because my Asellus had absorbed the Suffocation power. Quick save, start a fight, hope Asellus wasn't completely disabled, transform, hope she's not dead, use Suffocation, hope it hits, quick save again. I'm glad I only had to wander through one area.
>>
>>3305164

>but what are some pretty manly characters in SaGa?

Romancing SaGa has:

Hawke
Galahad
Gray(he's a bit of a cunt though)
Neidhart
Sif

Romancing SaGa 2 has:
Leon, Gerard, Viktor, especially Gerard who mans up quite a lot in his generation.
The Mountain Monks/Brawlers
The Saigo Clan
The Sea Merchants
Hannibal
Most of the male imperial militia
The Desert Guards
The male Holy Orders
The male Final Emperor has a pretty manly looking sprite but he's more of a David Bowie expy

Romancing SaGa 3 has:

Harid
Ward
Sharl
Black
Robin
Nora

SaGa Frontier has:

Red
Gen
Roufas
Fuse
Fei Long

Honorable mention goes to Hawk but he's a NPC, albeit a pretty important one.

Unlimited also has quite a few manly character like Kurt or Iskandar, but it's not retro.

Most of those don't have a storyline as good as Gustave though, so don't expect them to have his characterization, except maybe Gerard, which in fact becomes one of Gustave's close friend in Imperial SaGa.

You use the Rune Sword to cast a rune magic spell when you have an arcane spell learnt. You can get the gift for both, but to buy either one you have to erase all the spells of the other.

Using a Rune Sword to cast instead circumvents this and you can learn rune magic after battle by using it.

I accidentally stumbled across the Hide Rune in Koorong while exploring. Then as I traveled away, I wound up in Tanzer and got the Vitality Rune. To make matters even more weird, I tried traveling to Wakatu (I have Gen in my party, my main 5), but they won't let me go.

I recruited Sei instead of taking Kusanagi this time. Is he any good? He has some cool attacks, but only 444 HP. I guess I should absorb a monster to make him stronger, but I don't want him changing from a badass skeleton king to some retarded slime ball or something.

>Using a Rune Sword to cast instead circumvents this and you can learn rune magic after battle by using it.
That's a really neat trick I didn't know, cool stuff anon, I don't suppose it's a bug but rather a design oversight?
>>3307648
>I recruited Sei instead of taking Kusanagi this time. Is he any good?

King Sei suffers from being a monster, his own form is kinda eh, MinionStrike is basically the monster version of a mech's Surprise Soldier attack, it's decent as an all target but not really good for single target damage, his own Kusanagi attack is basically the same as the one you have as the Kusanagi item, a glorified Slash in terms of monster attacks. that said, as long as you get a good monster form and are willing to grind his HP he can become "decent".

Don't know what to say about not being able to get to Wakatu, but it's probably because you're doing the Rune questline right now, I really must check those flags again.

Well, suddenly that blonde woman took me to Despair instead of just saying "Stay Back". Maybe this was triggered because I got the other three runes? Does the game require the Freedom rune to be the final one?

I can go to Facinaturu now. It was a bit annoying. I knew all the bosses I had to fight, I'm overpowered so they were all easy. What was aggravating was that I didn't know exactly how to trigger them. On my first playthrough I just stumbled into them. This time I tried going back to all the locations that would trigger a fight, and at first nothing would happen. After randomly cycling through them all a few times, eventually a boss fight would start. Maybe you have to travel a certain amount before it happens?

I guess I could just rush to the end real quick just to see the ending, but I thought it might be kinda cool to raise an all-mystic party with Ildon, Zozma, Timelord, and either Rei, Silence, or Mesarthim. But then I'd have to spend a lot of time grinding their HP, JP, and WP up and I still don't know enough about the game to know what monsters are worth absorbing. But all the mystics look so cool.

Sei can be as good as any monster that can learn Mighty Cyclone and Magnetic Storm, really.

Get Mighty Cyclone from Krakens, at the swamp, get Magnetic Storm from crystal tree at biolabs.

You can also get MagicHeal from Unicorns or by backtracking all the way to quakeworms at the end of the Hide Rune dungoen.

All-in-all, I don't tend to use monsters unless I'm using Riki and I pick him up very early, because you sort of need to be proactive about absorbing as many abilities as possible and keeping the right ones to get that Mariche/Dullahan/Black Dragon/Crystal Tree form.
>>
>>3308380
Honestly you should probably just play Emelia's quest next, you can recruit Asellus, White Rose, and Zozma with her, and they're pretty strong when you do.

Emelia's end boss is surprisingly brutal if you rush into it as well and don't know what kind of defense to bring. I'd recommend maybe not messing around with Timelord if you're just gonna ruin the challenge though.

Make sure Emelia is not wearing a suit when you go into her final battle. That's the only tip I'll really give you, because she ends up getting her armor slot replaced when she goes into battle, and it's a body armor rather than a suit, so if you're wearing a powered suit and no gloves or boots or helm your defense will take a quick drop. It's a good body armor though.

>and I still don't know enough about the game to know what monsters are worth absorbing.
Suzaku is pretty much the overall best in terms of effort to get three of those in your slots and stats/Attacks, Crystal Trees, Dullahans and Mariches have all their advantages but they're not as easy to get as Suzakus.
>>3308580
>Sei can be as good as any monster that can learn Mighty Cyclone and Magnetic Storm, really.
Yeah, it's just that monsters aren't really on par with other races so if you're going to bother you might as well do an all party during Riki's quest, mostly to experiment with them and see the novelty in terms of mechanics, and as you said you need to grind quite a bit especially to get their HP up to decent levels and a good form, luckily the SaGa 2 and 3 DS remakes learned a bit from the mistakes in Frontier when it comes to the race design.
>>3308848
>I dunno, looks kinda gay.
Nigga, you're playing the RPG equivalent of JoJo and you complain about the gay?
>>
>>3308963
>Yeah, it's just that monsters aren't really on par with other races
Black Dragon has higher defense than any Human or Mystic can attain, and both Black Dragon and Dullahan will do comparable or slightly stronger damage to a Human without buffs using their strongest techs. It's only after using awakening or soul rune or light sword or getting extremely high stat values that a human will exceed monsters, because Mighty Cyclone is just an extremely strong technique, and Magnetic Storm is the strongest offensive Magic Spell you have access to, aside from Tower.

Mecs are still stronger than anything, but all robot counters will get BTFO by Magnetic Storm, so the strongest ally in T260G's quest is a monster.

You just need to git gud
>>
>>3309005
>and both Black Dragon and Dullahan will do comparable or slightly stronger damage to a Human without buffs using their strongest techs.

Have fun getting there though and as you said, Awakening/Soul Rune and Light Sword will always make humans better than monsters, moreover, humans have much better combo setups, access to magic like Tower or Overdrive and a few things like DSC, monsters have their advantages such as getting really good all target attacks like Magnetic Storm, Maelstrom or Siren and neat immunities, but first you have to actually get the form then you have to build up your moveset and HP without losing your form and that takes A LOT of time, and humans still have better tools at the end of the days by simply having access to equipment pieces that aren't just accessories, magic, better combos and mikiri.

>but all robot counters will get BTFO by Magnetic Storm

Just load them with ElectroArmors/Stardust Robes/Golden Fleeces, that's only a major problem if you want to fight AbyssBat with mechs only.

It's not like Monsters aren't viable or anything, Frontier is too easy for that kind of problem, it's just that monsters take a lot of time and effort to get on the same level as the other races, that's why people often overlook them.
>>
>>3309053
Monsters actually take less time than Humans to make good, you just have to know what you're doing. That's the main reason why I use them, because I can't be arsed to grind up to the maximum battle rank anymore. I prefer to spend 8 hours or less, hopefully closer to 2-4 hours per playthrough, and that's when the non-human races really shine.

As for Monsters not getting good equipment, you really know nothing, they actually get -free- equipment based on their form, in addition to all their accessories, and one of the reasons Black Dragon and Dullahan are so strong is that Dullahan has a built in Durahan Shield and Black Dragon has built in Golden Fleece.

I also have no idea how the fuck you thought I was talking about enemies using magnetic storm against you rather than you using magnetic storm to roflstomp all of T260G and Red's end game.
>>
>>3309061
>Monsters actually take less time than Humans to make good

if you grind non stop in the biolab/Furdo's workshop maybe, that's hardly less time since I would have already completed most quests in the game and got stuff like four Glirandly on all characters and already got good techs and magic.

>because I can't be arsed to grind up to the maximum battle rank anymore.

Use the Glirandly exploit in Wakatu then.

>they actually get -free- equipment based on their form

Mostly one piece, which is only really relevant for their strongest forms, and humans can get those too, and robots can even equip multiple ones.

>rather than you using magnetic storm to roflstomp all of T260G and Red's end game.

Why do you even need to go through the trouble of getting magnetic storm on five people when the only relevant mech enemies in those storylines are grunts and Mech God/Metal Alkaiser? Literally anything at that point can destroy mech grunts effortlessly and those bosses are a non issue with combos, just spam DSC/Tower or PluralSlash and you'll get better damage output than 5 Magnetic Storms anyway.

And as you said, you have to know what you're doing, which in the case of monsters means knowing which moves you need in order to get a form, where and when to get those and building a party in order to get those in the first place, and some other minor stuff too like built in equipment, immunities, HP threshold requirements for some forms and obviously the properties of the attacks you want to have so you can pull combos reliably, this is much more complex than just building a human, mystic or mech party member.
>>
Different Anon weighing in on the Frontier monster discussion.

Mariche has been pretty outdated by now and I don't think anyone uses it any more.

My monster of choice is basically Zeroworm, which is an end-game capable monster that you can grab very early especially if you use Thunder since he comes with the "uncommon" skill requirement. The other two skills for the form are really common.

By equipping your monster with the Magatama, he can usually wipe out most monsters in the early-mid game in one shot using Sacred Song.

Also for Christ sake, don't play All-Monsters on Riki's quest, are you a masochist or something?!

Monsters are great for early-mid game and are OK as support in late-game, but I think 2 is the maximum I ever want to manage at a single time. I usually use Thunder, then Cotton.

dude what the fuck I you need one single monster with magnetic storm to fuck up mecs with status effects and stun them every round
>if you grind non stop in the biolab/Furdo's workshop maybe
literally no grinding required, just absorb the correct monsters, save the right skills, order them properly, and develop your monsters while doing other things
>four Glirandly on all characters
do you even know that stat growth has a ceiling related to monster rank that is effected by stat bonuses from equipment? in the long run having a bunch of glirandly will barely make a difference, and the trouble I can only imagine that you go through getting 20 of them, savescumming drops with savestates or repeating encounters or passing turns doing fuck all like shit man what part of that is fun or necessary

>Thunder when going through a run at sanic speeds because he can easily access Trisaur jr. or zeroworm and go full diesel on shit

If you can't wipe out enemy mecs in one turn you're doing something wrong, I don't care about stunning two or three mechs when I can just destroy them without even using five characters.

>do you even know that stat growth has a ceiling related to monster rank that is effected by stat bonuses from equipment?

I know, does it matter when you have already 70+ stats bonuses on every stat? I think not.

>and the trouble I can only imagine that you go through getting 20 of them, savescumming drops with savestates or repeating encounters or passing turns doing fuck all like shit man what part of that is fun or necessary

Takes around one hour or two in Wakatu to get glirandlys on five party members once you know where they spawn, I did it multiple times on my psp, no savestates involved. Hardly as time consuming as getting good forms on five monsters.

>what part of that is fun or necessary

I could ask you the very same about monsters, which require much more effort and time.
None of the things we're discussing is necessary, that was my main point against monsters, they require a lot more stuff and knowledge than any other race to get on the level of a human character, none of that is necessary since humans as you yourself admitted still end up outclassing them, especially if you want to minmax.
No matter how much you try to argue, nothing a monster can bring to the table will make them more useful than a human with Overdrive, that's my only point.

>many, monsters even have duplicate torso armors programmed into their slots for extra defense

Just checked, you're right, I was mixing the two Frontiers up, my apologies.

>If you can't wipe out enemy mecs in one turn you're doing something wrong, I don't care about stunning two or three mechs when I can just destroy them without even using five characters.
exactly what random mec encounter can survive even one magnetic strom from a crystal tree or mariche?
>Takes around one hour or two
that's already too much.
>I could ask you the very same about monsters, which require much more effort and time.
except they really don't, nobody else here but you thinks that, they require no effort or time they just require correct decisions at the end of battles you would have fought anyway, which is to say the time they take is the same amount of time it takes to pick a monster to absorb and rearrange your abilities in the menu.
>No matter how much you try to argue, nothing a monster can bring to the table will make them more useful than a human with Overdrive
see here's your problem, you just want to be able to go full-retard and trivialize the actual challenge of the game by grinding it out like an autist.

Nobody else here is interested in being retarded.
>>
>>3309217
>exactly what random mec encounter can survive even one magnetic strom from a crystal tree or mariche?
Point is you don't even need Magnetic Storm to begin with.
>except they really don't
Are you seriously implying that monsters are that easy to make? Because that goes against what everyone always said and that's one of the main reasons why almost no one bothered using them.
>they require no effort or time

I'm pretty sure they do considering that a lot of monster forms also require a certain HP threshold, that means you'll need to also absorb other abilities first to get there since monsters do not gain HP as easily as other classes, not to mention certain moves necessary to turn in certain forms require you to be at a certain BR to even get those monsters to spawn.

>you just want to be able to go full-retard and trivialize the actual challenge

No? And what challenge is there in Frontier except purposedly gimping yourself?
You're the one who insisted on monsters being that good when they really aren't compared to other races.
Even without Overdrive monsters are still lower than human because they simply don't have the tools to compete with them and when you finally do get a good monster form the best you can get out of those are simple attacks and a few buffs/debuffs and even with all of this, humans and mechs, even mystics to some extent still overshadow anything monsters have to offer.

They're nice utility party members but they don't shine in anything except having a few convenient monster forms like Trisaurus Jr. which is the same exact design flaw of the first trilogy, good if you want a challenge, but overall mediocre compared to any other race.
>>
>>3309241
>Because that goes against what everyone always said
this is really your core problem.
>>
>>3309242
Might be, I don't see how you're bringing anything new to the table though.

No one in their right mind would tell either newcomers or fans of the series to actively use monsters.
If you're a newcomer you'll need to check literal bibles to understand how monsters work, what you need to do and where you need to go in order to get which monster form and also 90% of the game's BASIC mechanics to make monsters just work, that's hardly fun for people who like to actually play games and ruins a lot fo the fun in discovering things for yourself.

If you've already played the game you'd probably hardly go through that hassle more than a few times because other races simply work better than monsters in 90% of any possible scenarios and don't require you to hunt for monsters, waiting to get the right skillset and form, it's just too much hassle to use monsters to their fullest, unless you use Riki or Thunder which are already geared toward good and easy to obtain forms.

I personally don't bother with monsters because they're vastly boring for me, they can't cast magic outside of Kyrin, and space magic is kinda garbage anyway, all monster forms boil down to the same small pool of attacks that aren't even as flashy and fun to watch as sword or gun techs, most of the attacks you even need to have for good monster forms are lackluster, because let's admit it who the fuck uses petrobreath, and are largely useless.

You want a "challenge"? Good, play with monsters, but don't tell me or anyone else that they're as viable or fun to use as other races, because that's simply not true and the entire community disagrees with you, monsters only began to become viable and less of a hassle with the DS remakes.
>>
>>3309256
I could literally just tell someone 3 things for them to understand monsters:
>Your monster gains base HP added onto each monster form for each unique ability it absorbs throughout the course of the game
>Your monster changes form based on it's current HP and the abilities currently in it's ability list
>The ability list is checked sequentially from the top downwards when trying to determine the next monster form you'll turn into.

That's literally all you need to know, you can figure out the rest easily. You could even figure out those things yourself with some careful observation, without even being told.

>Hey this monster uses these attacks and it has fangs and horns, maybe I should get it's special attacks and also fangs and horns to turn into it, oh shit it worked now I'm strong

please just stop and accept that you are bad at video games and need to be told how to solve problems instead of figuring out the solutions yourself, and that this game wasn't made for people like you.
>>
Let me guess, your next line will be "Of course I know all that, I was just pretending to be retarded because monsters are objectively not fun."

You can get those times once you know enough about the game that you can break it horribly, I'm one of those who likes to take his time instead and do always everything available and also fuck around a bit, it helps that certain characters like Lute have almost no story so you can blast through fairly quick.
The GB trilogy games can all be completed in around thirty minutes or so if you know what to abuse.
Now if you could walk around faster in Minstrel Song though, that walking speed is seriously criminally slow.

So, after hearing about this series a lot I decided to try it out, I just arbitrarily picked Minstrel Song, I went in completely blind, anyway I got BTFO by normal mobs since I advanced my ER way to fast, after reading up a bit on a few basic tips for this game I tried again with Albert, everything went much smoother.

I have few questions. I am trying to do to the Ancient Text Quest, I advanced it to the point where I talked to Cyril, but he just tells me that it's not yet time, do I have to do something specific or do I have to increase my ER, it's at 8 right now. Is mining/gathering herbs worth it? I guess mining could be important for tempering shit, but I don't know about herbs. Also, are there any AOE healing spells, I have Moonbeam on two characters, but I doubt that will be enough for the rest of the game.
>>
>>3311305
>but he just tells me that it's not yet time
Iirc you need to have 9 ER for that since it's linked to another quest.
>Is mining/gathering herbs worth it?
Mining is essential in getting good weapons easily, so yes, always have someone that can mine, gathering herbs is largely useless since healing and buff spells work much better than any potion you're going to brew.
>are there any AOE healing spells
Nope, SaGa rarely has AoE healing and if it does it's extremely costly or limited to the point of being an emergency measure.
There are various ways deal with that, the most common one is making everyone learn the Second Wind martial art since it's cheap and also grants HP regen, but you'll want to have healing spells on mostly everyone.

Alright, I finally got the other two endings for Asellus (Human followed by Half Mystic). I'm glad I put in the effort to play the story again to see them, I feel it was worth it. I think the reason I couldn't get the Half Mystic ending on my previous one, was that I had already spoken to Rastaban BEFORE going back to save Gina. I wasn't expecting that boss fight in my human ending file! I went back to heal after Lion Princess and then "holy crap, another one?!"

I prefer the Half-Mystic ending because it's somewhat happier, but I liked how the human ending showed lots of different scenes of her life.

I have a few story questions:
1 - Who exactly are the portraits in Orlouge's fight? Are they White Rose, Rei, and Lion Princess? I assumed that at first, but they look different.
2 - Would the endings be different if you recruited different people? I had Zozma and Rei in the human ending, but what if you didn't get them?

And a few gameplay questions:
1 - On this run, my characters seemed to learn different techniques than my first one. Before, Gen and Asellus were learning attacks like Triple Thrust and Rosario Impale. Now they learned things like NoMoment and Still-something. Is it completely random, or is there some formula behind it?

Well actually that's the only gameplay question I can remember right now. Now I just have to decide who I'll play next, but it's gonna be tough to beat Asellus!
>>
>>3311671
Gathering skills are largely garbage in Minstrel Song, the only one that has a good use is Mining, only because most of the key metals for good weapon smithing are either costly, dropped by enemies or randomly appear in shops.
>Do you have specific examples of what you use Mining to get ahead with?
It's not a matter of getting ahead since gathering is also tied to BR, so it's not like you can magically get Meteoric Iron at lower BR, it's just more reliable than farming enemies during the game, as long as you care about ER of course. It is GENERALLY better to farm enemies for certain rare metals than mining, mining has a large pool of possible items while knowing which enemy drops which metal might give you better results faster, especially if you emulate and use savestates, however, certain items like Marcasite or Steel Threads can be easily mined.
To make a practical example, while I would NEVER mine for a type 7 Mullock for Gray's Demonbrand I sure as hell will for Steel Thread or Southern Iron, I don't have to fight enemies for those, meaning my ER stays under control, and the money that I would spend on both would be used to buy Spells or other good weapons or armors.
>>3312049
>Who exactly are the portraits in Orlouge's fight?
The three mistresses, they're not any of the Princesses you meet in the game.
>Would the endings be different if you recruited different people?
Nope, the ending is influenced by your use of mystic weapons and whether or not you save Gina.
>Is it completely random, or is there some formula behind it?
Your character get their techs from a pool of what they can and cannot spark, due to sparking involving several different kinds of rolls you'll get a "random" result each run, though if you know how to manipulate the rolls you can get what you want more or less easily, for instance, using Thrust will give you an extra roll to learn Thunder Thrust or Triple Thrust compared to normal attacks or other techs.

SaGaFrontier Episode Red.jpg

>>>

To give you a general idea:

1)All characters have a list of what they can and cannot spark
2)Using certain techs gives you better chances of getting other techs, which are usually stronger versions of lower techs
3)Fighting against tough opponents will give you better chances to spark stronger techs
4)Certain sword techs require you to have two swords equipped to be sparked, like Cross Deflect
5)A very powerful Martial Art tech is only available if you have already sparked certain techs and are currently in your tech slots
6)Certain techs can only be learned and used with a certain weapon, Asura's Revenge can only be learned and used with the Asura sword for instance
7)Certain swords are actually Katanas, and Katanas have their own subset of techs that can only be used with that kind of sword
8)Katanas are the only weapon that has a "hidden" combo tech that is triggered by doing a certain sequence of three Katana techs

That is more or less all the basic stuff you need to know about normal techs, guns work a bit differently as you have a random chance of getting a skill after each battle and that too have a set of rules involved.
> Now I just have to decide who I'll play next, but it's gonna be tough to beat Asellus!
Play Red's story, he's also tied to Asellus in the lore(she was his babysitter) and she and White Rose are briefly playable in his story prologue.
Red is a pretty fun character to use too and part of the MC Monster Trio together with Asellus and Blue, his story is nice and has quite the fun cast of recruitable characters.

He only has one ending, don't worry, only Asellus and Emilia have multiple endings, Blue kinda has a pretty neat twist but it doesn't really count as a separate ending.

Welp.
The JP version isn't that much better though just so you know, while the translation is a bit eh the actual voice cast isn't that bad as you might imagine, Saruin for instance is pretty terrible in JP.
And to this day I can't shake the feeling that they made some sort of inside VA joke by having Sif voiced by the same western VA as Lenneth, Valhallan jokes?

Nice catch, there's a few guys who made JoJoxSaGa art, if you've read all the series some of those are pretty hilarious.

I once made a joke about his voice that somehow reached twitter and was even retweeted by him. Great voice, great man.

I'm not sure if this is a reference to the same scene. I know that Kami's place has a table and I recognize the characters related, but the artstyle seems a little out there.

This is probably my favorite exploit, and you can do it less than an hour into the game on most characters, as long as you can somehow juke your way through shingrow ruins and survive a few encounters that you'll get forced into there.

Currently at about 7~ hours into Asellus' quest and I really wish the next part of the quest would fucking show up already I'm getting frustrated and I really want to move on to a character with a more stable party

The SNES version has no voice acting :)

How the fug do I get my Mutant F in Legend to use a weapon? All she has is Power and ESP? I can't equip her with any weapon and she doesn't have magic that can be used offensively.

It's actually not "random" in a sense - the plot events for Asellus only triggers in very specific rooms.

If you find a list of possible rooms and then run in and out of it until it triggers, you can potentially clear Asellus really fast if you can beat the bosses.

any of you encounter a bug where you can't jump into the holes in rs2 on android?

>With the western release of Romancing SaGa 2 we're back in the groove.
>"Oh boy, our Square Enix overlords have thrown us another bone!"

You SE fans are insufferable for gobbling this shit up. If you have even a rudimentary understanding of Japanese, you'd realize just how shitty the RS2 translation is. No, it's not a boon from SE, it's a quickly cobbled together mess that probably had virtually no budget.

When you buy releases like this, you're sending Square the message that it's okay to shortchange their fanbase. The company isn't looking over their mobile sales and thinking, "Hey, these guys like SaGa after all. Let's give the series a better budget!" They're thinking, "Hey, these retards will pay for any old shit that comes out of our asses! Let's churn out more shitty mobile re-releases until we've thoroughly tarnished the reputations of our flagship series forever!"

In FFL/SaGa your ability list and your equipment list are the exact same list. Monsters have their slots filled automatically by their form. Humans have 8 slots to use any equipment. Mutants have 4 slots on top for abilities and 4 slots on the bottom for equipment, both weapons and armor. If you filled all of her slots with Armor, you will have to take off one piece of armor to place a weapon instead. You have to buy your weapon at the store obviously, and it will have a limited number of uses after which it is destroyed.

I recommend a rapier for mutants if you're still in the first world, they tend to develop agility faster than strength.

Seems more like a reference to a tv comedian by the looks of it, though I don't quite get it.
I have this one which is a Gorgeus Irene reference.

Asellus' quests has various location flags for triggering the sages fight, some of those are Sei's Tomb intersection to the chamber with Roufas, a chamber in Shingrow's ruin, a chamber in Wakatu etc., I don't remember exactly all of them but you can use those locations to trigger the fights, you can't use a location more than once though.
>>3313484
>I can't equip her with any weapon
I don't know what to tell you, mutants don't have equipment restrictions in terms of weapons, have you tried to unequip everything and reequip her? Been a long time since I played GB SaGa but I don't remember about such a thing.

What's your SaGa theme and why?

Filling the slots is unlikely, it's probably just that the first 4 slots are forced abilities. Also she should come with a weapon equipped, it's just further down, battle menu only shows the first 4 slots unless you scroll down.

That's always my problem, I end up running through the ones I remember and forgetting the others by the time I reach Golden Lion/Labyrinth and just hope it happens by the time I'm finished doing what ever quests I decided on for powering up characters, right now I just remembered that the garden in Kyo was one of them so I'll probably go there until my waifu gets kidnapped

>I don't remember exactly all of them but you can use those locations to trigger the fights, you can't use a location more than once though.
Is there something more to it? On my second run, I tried going to the rooms where the fights happened in my first run, and it worked in a few. In the end I was just going in and out of every area that I knew triggered the fights, and eventually, one would just work. Running in and out of them repeatedly didn't seem to work for me.

I started thinking, maybe it has to do with how many times you travel between regions, or how many fights you've been in, or maybe even if you've rested at an inn or not. But I couldn't make any sense of it.
>>
>>3314046
>or how many fights you've been in
Iirc this is the trigger, you need to have fought some battles between each sage for the next one to appear, though I don't remember exactly how many, you'd better check out a guide for that.

Should I make a new thread by the way? We've reached the limit and now the thread is autosaging.
