A Russian company has gone through the trouble of creating Russian ROM hacks. It's funny because there IS a (firecore) handheld Mega Drive on there that takes real carts but OP's ain't it.

Since they're all firecore anyway you should just get one with an SD slot like the AtGames/TechToy one that actually appeared on US stores and can still be found cheap. You get no better performance or compatibility by plugging real carts into a firecore since it just dumps the rom from it to memory anyway.
