They're not as underrated on this board but on the rest of the internet it seems like nobody seems to know or remember them. Besides, nobody seems to know what really happened to them after 2001.

Good taste, pham.
>>

Are under-appreciated publishers fair game too?
>>
>>3232638
They were shit.

>LOL LOOK AT ALL OUR EPIC POP CULTURE JOKES XDDD
>>
>>3232638
Fucking WHAT, did you actually LIKE the hatchet jobs they pulled on the games they "translated?"
>>
>>3232726
Because a few stupid jokes totally ruin their translation efforts?
>>
>>3232743
They didn't just do bad translations, they also butchered gameplay in certain games, see Silhouette Mirage on PSX.
>>
>>3232726
Alundra, Elemental Gearbolt and Thunder Force V wouldn't have ever made it overseas if not for them.

Besides they knew they were playing it risky with titles like Albert Odyssey and Lunar (which no other company would even approach) and they made what was surely a practical business decision by adding American pop culture references to try and shoehorn their way into an audience. Localization practices just weren't held to the standards we have now.
>>
>>3232753
Still better than no localization, besides I'm not even sure what you're talking about.
>>
>>3232743
A few? Nigga have you SEEN Vanguard Bandits? That script is 85% pop culture jokes.

And they also fucked with actual gameplay on several projects.

Feels to me like these guys are only really remembered for Space Invaders and Bubble/Puzzle Bobble when they have a shitload of other cool games worth checking out. Some of it being among the most experimental/innovative stuff put out to arcades.

Doesn't need to be obscure but if you're gonna say companies like Taito or Sunsoft are underappreciated then might as well add Konami, Capcom, Namco.

I just noticed that the ball in Cameltry is actually the blue ball from Taito's "i".
>>
>>3230918
Sunsoft games always had great music. I remember the drums always sounded way better than in other games.
>>
>>3233792
Sunsoft cheated by putting music chips in their games, like Konami did.

>>3232771

Name one instance of this, because it'd be news to me.

They fucked with the mechanics in Silhouette Mirage where just using your weapon drained ammo, so you had to waste extra time sucking up energy from enemies to keep your weapon from downgrading to a shitty level.

Also they made everything in the shop way too expensive.
>>
>>3233805
That only happened once.

Konami also only did it like 3 times.
>>
>>3233805
Sounds pretty smart to me

>>3233885

>>
>>3233896
Why don't you just fucking look it up if you want to know so much? Are you actually so fucking dumb that you don't know how to look up NES enhancement chips on Google? I fucking hate this retarded generation. All of the information in the world is right in front of you on the Internet, and you're all too fucking stupid to know how to find it. I bet you were that retarded kid in class that needed constant handholding from Teacher because you're too fucking dumb to know how to read the book.
>>
>>3233813
Exile II
Th JP version didn't have parallax scrolling. They added it in the translation
>>
>>3233896
I know of Gimmick for Sunsoft.

For Konami, they had two chips. VRC6 and VRC7.

VRC6 games were:
Castlevania III
Madara 2
and more

Only VRC7 game was Lagrange Point.

Nobody understood the Game Boy's hardware like these guys.

>>3231343
If anything, they are overrated. Way to many people that thing games like ActRaiser or Terranigma deserve be called "one of the best games ever" despite them being vey mediocre. They always have neat concepts, but the gameplay is so unambitious. And the boss fights always suck.
Funny thing though, their best game, Robotrek, is the most overlooked.

this thread is funny
>>
>>3236749

The guy who made the thread is a sperg, but Vic Ireland is an asshole who covers his ass behind Maegawa-san, what a bitch. I bet Maegawa didn't even care about the western release, and if he did compliment Vic's changes, he probably did due to typical japanese politeness. I doubt he liked how his game got completely changed and made duller. But despite that, hiding his ass behind the japanese developer (teasing "you can't contact him", in the meantime) is a pussy move.
>>
>>3236749
all I'm seeing is a bunch of ass kissers

>Exile II
Right, they also made it that every single enemy kills you in one shot. Conveniently you forgot about that.
>>
>>3236757
If there's one thing to come from that thread, it's proof how insane SoJ were during the mid/late '90s. Maybe Tom Kalinske was right all along. Too bad Vic won't disclose the stories about Sega.

>>
>>3236801

Uh, Kalinske is a jewish name, did you know that?

Sega was ruined from the beginning since the original Service Games founders were jews also

>>
Fuck nostalgia, i play rl"ret>>3233565
Autism is a sonafbitch eh?
>>
>>3236856

Then why did you call SoJ jews? They were terrible at business.

The original japanese jews are Sony.
>>
>>3236869
Japan in general has been jewized for over 70 years.
>>
>>3236876

Well, compared to the rest of the world they're one of the few 1st world countries without huge jewish/zionist influence.
Europe and America are beyond fucked.
>>
>>3234101
Act Raiser, which was like the original of the quadrilogy was dope as fuck, not a must-play but fun.

Soul Blazer is just tedious.

Illusion of Gaia is a game despite beating several times I always forget. Entirely immerable.

Terranigma is great, and I feel is a must-play. Far from perfect, as you said, bosses are usually a joke.
>>
>>3236879
Maybe, but they're still jewpuppets compared to say, Russia or China or North Korea or Australia.
>>
>>3234101
I agree with you about Robotrek. I had no idea that game even existed until a few years ago and compared to their other games it gets even less attention. I myself don't agree with the notion that games like Actraiser and Terranigma are mediocre because of the gameplay or the boss fights. I do have to say however that I always felt it could have been just a little more gameplay wise. I think it has a lot to do with the CEO of Quintet back in the day who was more of a scenarist than a game developer.
>>
>>3236769
Well I knew the game was hard but I didn't know that. Explains why I can't get further.
>>
>>3236887

lol, that's a britbong colony, they're just as jewified as everyone else.

Natsume is shit. They took (and still do) games and translated them poorly, removed features, and introduced numerous bugs to any game they'd work on.

Treehouse seems to do the same thing now. Did they look up to Natsume as their heroes or something?

No, I'm thinking of Natsume.
This is the company that typoed their own name on the title screen of Harvest Moon 64, alongside the much more obvious "Push the Start."
>>
>>3234101
I remember having Turok 3 on the GBC. I wished the whole game was like the tank stage, never really dug the on foot stuff (and never got past the first on foot stage)
>>
>>3241252

lol, never noticed that.

not trying to excuse them, but maybe it's because in japanese they often don't see a difference between "TU" and "TSU" when they romanize.

Nice engrish anyway. Still, what are the Natsume games where they removed features or added bugs? /vr/ Natsume was pretty based as far as I'm concerned. Modern Natsume is a completely different company that's only Natsume in name.
