Seems like a really pretty game, but I don't really collect N64 games so it's hard to justify getting. If only it were a Saturn game.

I haven't really checked around on mandarake or surugaya but from what I can tell even JP N64 stuff can be pretty pricey (though J2 could be found ebay'd for only like 20 ducketts). A lot of quirky/ interesting JP Saturn games can be had for the tens or more likely 2 dunkaroos. Only the few really sought after things reach retro-game resell tier pricing. Also as nice as those N64 packages are, they're big.

I guess a curated collection of N64 stuff isn't out of the question, it's just not nearly as accessible and seems pricey.

My most expensive and rarer N64 game on my collection is Bangai-O, of which only 10k copies exist, and I paid $60 for it back in 2009 or so. I think Saturn has more expensive games overall, but it's fun to collect for both, especially if you dig the japanese catalogues.

The "gameplay" is only bad in dungeons when there are actual obstacles to dodge and overcome.

I liked the first one. Might like the second one but the sprite glitches in emulation are unacceptable.

I couldnt get into the first game but this one looks like an improvement in virtually every way
I'd like to try it some day

Thanks a bunch anon, I don't have an everdrive sadly but I'm taking it for the extra stuff and I will try the first game.

The Wonder Project girl has been in my memory since I was 10 or 11 years old, I remember seeing a screenshot of the game in an old magazine and always was curious about the game. I long for the day I can finally play it and meet her.

I was into Studio Ghibli movies when I was young and seeing this makes me wanna play it, but I got disappointed its only in japan, thankfully its fully translated so I get to finally experience it

so why did this game end up on N64 anyway? Was it because of how good Nintendo had been to Enix in the past?

I don't think anybody would have an answer to that. The first game was on Super Famicom so my guess is that they just decided to release the sequel on the N64.
It was also an early N64 title, it released in Japan in november of 1996.
I figure since the game relies on actual sprite animation and not FMVs, they didn't have any problem working with cart storage.
