Who knows some old horror games that are actually scary? In Illbleed you are afraid of the level itself, rather than the enemies in it, and it doesn't forget that horror stops being scary once it's predictable

Hellnight, perhaps?
>>3196225
What kind of horrorgame is it?
>>3196236
a first person, no combat horror game for the psx

>>3196243
I'm actually going to try that! Thanks!
>>3196245
no problem
>>3196221
That game was awful, but it's still worth playing oddly enough.
>>3196221
Wait, illbleed is scary? When did that happen?
>>3196330
This. I'd say Illbleed is on the overrated side of the spectrum; got tons of hype about it from friends in DC times and it turns out it's just too cheesy and jumpscare-based to be an "experience". Fun most of the time though

How about Enemy Zero? It's supposed to be a classic, but it's hardly ever brought up around here. It's pretty cool the story and concept are directly tailored to work around the huge limitations of the system too (can't render convincingly scary 3d monsters? make the game aboutscary *invisible* monstersthen!)
>>3196490
I personally don't know anyone who has played it, or even knows about it. It came as a nice surprise to me because I didn't expect the game to have so much personality. I tried Enemy Zero, the brutal difficulty turned me off

I've always wanted to play this and D. I have D2 on Dreamcast, but they're not anything alike it seems.
>>3196602
Nah; the only tie is the same "actress" being in all of them

My dad played D on his 3DO when I was still in primary grade and it legit gave me fear of the dark for many, many years after that. Earlier last year, I asked my friend play it on a livestream so we could relive this and laugh it off. In the same year, Dansgaming played it on Twitch for his October horror month and I can safely say D is nothing more than something to laugh at, which is about damn time I completely got over it.
Looking back, some of the scenes I still think are too much for any kid to handle, like the skeleton pinned up behind a wooden door, spike wall trap, morphing faces on paintings, and really fucking horrific CG models. Oh and get this, there was one hallway that had the classic horror trope of reanimated knight armor suits swinging polearms at you. Guess what I had at my old house? A fucking decorative suit of armor statue.

Who has armor suits and 3d0s? Are you rich as fuck anon?
Is pic-related worth playing?
>>3197195
It's much better than the other games in the series, imo. Unless you cound Haunting Ground as a Clock Tower game.
Fun fact - the game is loosely based on the movie "Phenomena" by horror maestro Dario Argento, which I highly recommend.

The suit is decorative, it's not functional. Surely it's not that expensive? The 3DO was bought during its time, same with the Playstation, the floppy loader for Super Famicom, or PC Engine, I don't remember. Those were all bought with HK dollar so I have no idea. I'm sure the 3DO was expensive in which ever country.
>>3197195
Definitely.
>>3197190
he parents could just b niggers that stole it mayb
>>3197207
The game basically stars Jennifer Connelly fGs. I miss those days when games were considered such an insignificant medium that devs could just pull that kind of stuff off with zero consequences
>>3197272
Weird, I always imagined her as a japanese girl.
>>3197290
Even some of the secondary characters are based on their equivalents in the movie (not to mention the antagonists). But yeah, she looks a bit Asian in the promos and in-game.
>>3197195
I find the PSX game better because it's harder to avoid the scissorman and you could never remain in one room for too long
the SNES game is prettier though
>>3196490
D is more creepy, Enemy Zero only was on the Saturn and PC
>>3197195
In all honesty, this game actually scared me. I *alt-F4* out of it a few times. You definitely should play it.

>Overrated Horror Game
FTFYK
>>3197272
I remember watching Phenomena and thinking, "what the fuck, I've played this."
>>3196602
D isn't very good if you play it nowadays, gameplay hasn't aged very well. But it's only two hours long so if you can pirate it it might be worth your time. If only for a laugh
>>3201742
Man you raycis
>>3201791
those are some ok tiddies
Did anyone mention siren? I don't see it mentioned as much as other horror games of its time.
Project Firestart.
Looks and plays pretty rad for a 1989 Commodore 64 game.
I've always seen the Dead Space series as a spiritual successor.
I see this game mentioned from time to time.
>>3197207
I loved Clock Tower 3, but only because I'm a fan of Kinji Fukasaku. The cutscenes in that game are fucking beautiful.
>>3196490
Enemy Zero had a great basic gameplay concept, that was ruined because of how they packaged it. A godawful FMV-only story? Incredibly bland and boring level areas? Monotonous gameplay?
It was scary at parts, and it's at its best when you're walking around empty hallways with the enemy beeping sound slowly speeding up, but let's not pretend that it's an awful game.
>>3202090
It's a bit too action-focused to be really scary, but I will agree that the monster designs are fantastic. To this day, it features my favorite werewolf designs ever.
