What is going to be accomplished with this thread? A hidden gen war? Neat. However the Saturn has a better controller.

never tried this, but I plan on getting it, just having the indentations on the thumb sticks makes it a 10/10. I hate the rounded design of the dual shock thumb sticks

That, and the handles.

shitposting about the genesis in full force today

the longer handles makes it seem nicer to me, never tried one though.

The D-Pad is great and then some but the three aligned buttons are inferior to, say, PS1's 4-button arrangement.
>>
Three buttons is inferior period. If it had four buttons it might be able to get away without having shoulder pads but three and not even a select button is too few. The 8-directional d-pad doesn't mean much since obviously the SNES and NES could go 8-directions as well by pressing up-right etc. at the same time just as easily.

>>3194131
>more buttons = better
Are you trying to piss me off?

Original Genesis controllers have the best sounding buttons imo

Trust me, playing Beat-Em-Ups like Golden Axe and Streets Of Rage was pure fucking heaven
>>
>>3194141

Underage kid detected. SNES games barely used more than 3 or 4 buttons and the Genesis got around it by using A+B or B+C as combinations.
>>
>>3194318
oh fuck off you little shithead, I'm almost 31.

I'm fucking sick of retards like you saying "herrr underage detected" every time someone doesn't agree with you. As if practically everyone here didn't already know what you've just said, don't make me laugh. Three buttons is fine for lots of games, but are sorely missed when you don't have them for fighting games, strategy games, etc.

Funnily enough I just picked up an 1180 today. Had one back in the 90s but gave it away with my original console like a silly chump.

Pic related. My current PlayStation controller collection. Gotta love dem 'Cudas.
>>
>>3193864
Reminder that the 3button pad has 3 distinct dpad variants.

Early pads are a traditional mushy disk.
Late model pads are the floating 6button/Saturn style.

Mid model pads however rock on a pole that operates a secondary internal pad on the underside of the PCB, you might have wondered what that recess on the bottom of the pad was for. If you have one of these and it doesn't feel like it used to, you might consider replacing the internal grease as it might have become filthy.
>>
>>3194345
Arcadefags and Segafags love pulling the underage card because they think it automatically makes them win any argument when it just makes them look like retards.

How so? I'll admit that it has solid build quality, but it just didn't fit the shape of my hand. Made it pretty uncomfortable for extended play. Prefer the ps1 pad apart from it's dpad.

Thoughts on NES Max? I remember reading a hint book once and for each game it would say if an NES Advantage was good for each particular game it covered, but in the preface stated that it wouldn't do the same for the Max as it made all games 'too darn easy', which I interpreted as praise. My main video game buddy at the time had both and I didn't care for either that much, except I liked the Max for Contra.

Has any system ever had more gimmick controllers than the NES?
>>
>>3195881
on nintendo max

"To paraphrase Obama, "You can put an analogue layout on a digital input pad, but it's still a digital pad". You just worked harder to get the same result from your games.

The thing also had a dead zone the size of Central Park, so changing to an opposite direction in a hurry was out of the question. The only reasons I see to have had one was to show off that you could play with a handicap and because Nintendo told you that you had to have one" ~ anon

You're an idiot

Even ignoring common stuff like Super Metroid, which used all the buttons, there was plenty of stuff like this. Sonic and stuff is great and all but please tell me how you'd translate this down to 3 buttons

A Button Fire special weapon
B Button Fire normal gun
X Button View navigation map
Y Button Afterburner
L Button Decrease speed
R Button Increase speed
Start Button Pause
Select Button Use with other button to perform a specific action (see below)
L + R buttons Reduce speed to 0
Select + A Button Cycle to next available weapon
Select + B Button Cycle to next available gun type
Select + X Button Select target to lock on to.
Select + Y Button Engage autopilot
Select + L Button Switch between weapons and damage display
Select + R Button Select navigation, targeting, or communications systems.
L + R + Select + Start Eject
