I bought this Metroid NES cartridge from GameStop many years ago (I think either 2002 or 2003), and I know it looks different from the average Metroid cartridge, so I have two questions:
1. Is this an official published variant by Nintendo or is it a weird bootleg?
2. Does this have any value whatsoever, or is it completely worthless?

It's a re-release variant. It's legit.
PAL release looked like that
It's exactly as valuable as the original release.

They also released a version of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out without Tyson in it.
as i recall it's the re release which is slightly rarer than the original, but doesn't affect the value much, if u want to maximize your megabux then put it on ebay starting at 100 bucks and say METROID RARE VARIANT and see if any dingbats bite lmao

You joke....
That's just the yellow label. It goes for what the other people have said. I say it's better than the standard label because of the art work.
