Just bought this CD-I 450 for 3€. It came with the a/c adapter,

Get a Genesis pad and an adaptor.

In terms of good games: The Apprentice, Tetris, and Hotel Mario (yeah the cutscenes are terrible but the game is fine).

Unfortunately a decent gamepad is extremely hard to come by. There's one that's pretty similar to a 3DO pad and one that's exactly like a classic Gravis gamepad. When either one pops up it goes for $50 or more.

The other option is the straight up terrible paddle controller that was the standard "remote" for the thing. I've pretty much decided I'm going to have to buy one of these and mod it into an arcade stick of I ever get the time to play my CDi that I bought in a similar situation to yours.

You got a great deal on the CD-i.

If I were you I would sell it on Ebay and buy a REAL console like a 3DO.

There are only 5 games worth play on the CD-i:

Wand of Gamelon
Laser Lords
Burn:Cycle
The Apprentice

Pictured is the best controller for the CD-i.

There is also a worse controller that looks like a gravis gamepad.

All other CD-i controllers are fecal.

Dreamcast used a GD-ROM drive that made it easy as fuck to burn copies. Literally just burn the game on CD-R and boom you got the game

It's a bit more complicated then that. Some stuff has to be done to make DC games selfboot, otherwise you need a boot disk. And regardless, DC games aren't meant to fit on a CD-R (GD-ROM is a bit larger) so if you're the guy doing all the work then you'll want to do things like compress fmvs and audio more so it fits on the CD-R.

Nothing in the 4th gen has disc copy protection.
In the 5th gen the Atari Jaguar CD and Apple Pippin have copy protection. Not just the PS & SS.
In the 6th gen the Nuon accepts burned games. Not just the Dreamcast.
