Yeah, relaxing and somber.
It brings that slice of life feeling to you that few other games manage, later Harvest Moon's included.

System Shock 2.

Dunno why I find it comfy. I'll actually launch it with no intention of really playing just to chill and listen to a podcast.

I'm not a Final Fantasy VIII fan by any means, I think both the story and the draw system were a mess.
But game has some od the best art assets Squaresoft ever put in a game and Uematsu's most well developed, mature score. It really comes together in creating a comfy, "The Snow Queen"-esque experience. A shame it didn't quite have the game to go with them.

How about Golden sun for comfy? Nice colors, music, the game is easy as fuck if you look take the time to find every djinn, no PONR ever, the puzzles are just the right difficulty...

Final fantasy 7, super Mario 2, A link to the past, jet grind radio, and pretty much any fighting game reminds me of when I was a kid and had no worries

it isn't very retro, but I love playing Symphony of the Night. I will play for hours just running through the castle, trying to collect every sword. Also, Final Fantasy 6 was my freaking childhood. I will probably never beat it again, but I will download it from the App Store, from time to time, and replay the first few hours for maximum comfy, and then delete a few months later.

Alundra. Hard to take that for one depressing as fuck game, but not the entire game as much as the town you are in. I don't know. It's just a nice little jrpg town that you can fuck around in, walk down to the beach and take a swim and such. I did this really often when I played it back in the day.

Outside of that, I agree, there are a few games as comfy as Harvest Moon on the SNES. When it's raining in game and you just go inside your little cabin, carrying the dog out of the rain as well.

I play Power Blade on 200% speed. It takes some time to catch the flow, but then most part of the brains just turn off and it feels very good when you don't (physically) feel or think anything.
