NES: Mega Man 3 or Metroid
Snes: Super Mario World or Sunset Riders
Genesis: NBA Jam TE or Phantasy Star 4
PS1: Crash Bandicoot 2 or Final Fantasy Tactics (if I was allowed to give them small advice so they don't get raped at Dorter like big noobs do)
N64: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 or Ocarina of Time
GameBoy: Wario Land or Pokemon Red
GameBoy Color: Pokemon Crystal or Zelda Oracle of Seasons

Mainly because if you're unfamiliar with games in general, they all offer some form of general entertainment.

Virtual boy = wario land
Psx= crash bandicoot

I merely was just sticking to two per console and I just remember playing the N64 one with my neighbor friends and brothers, so even if it's worse than the PS1, my rose tinted glasses came through. Regardless, either release is good because it's impossible to not have some fun playing those games unless you're really uptight.

My advice is don't limit yourself.

Is really fucking dumb. Just get a console that looks interesting, a couple games for it, then think about getting another one.

Hell, I didn't get a Sega Genesis until like 2015 and I've been collecting since I was a kid in 1994.

Streets of Rage 2 is more of a beat em up than fighting game.
