This failed because people felt silly playing it right? So why do tech companies think oculus rift will be any different? Motion controls? Fuck motion controls. I'll stick to playing vidya on a tv screen thats fun for the whole familia
>>
Because the VB wasn't even vr.

It was a shitty red tinted screen you strapped over your eyes to play glorified GB games on.

>People learning things from Nintendo
Nope. As a society, we'll simply rip-off Nintendo indescriminantly until they're gone, then be lost without them.

Learning from their mistakes requires thought and planning which the current industry does not value.

Yeah, it was just a stereoscopic display. You'd play a 2D game like wario on it and the background would have some simulated depth to it, big woop.
>>
>>3167212
The Virtual Boy Failed for a lot of reasons. Silliness wasn't a huge issue, but ergonomics was.
>>
>>3167212
VB was forced 50Hz. Imagine being stuck with PAL no matter what. No surprise it failed.
>>
>>3167212
Because colored shit looks better than red shit.

HE IS GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE PAST

The Virtual Boy wasn't exactly Captain Picard's Holodeck you know. It was basically like a Tiger Electronics handheld that you wore on your head. Modern VR is a bit more realistic.
>>
>>3167360
It was a little better than that. I had one and enjoyed wario land and mario tennis. There just werent enough games for the thing

The virtual boy sucked because it wasn't virtual reality
>>
>>3167315
That waterworld segment had me dying desu
>>
I dunno about you guys but thing fucking destroyed my eyeballs every time I played it.
>>
It was a gimmick ,it had no real future
>>
>>3167212
It failed because it's INCREDIBLY uncomfortable to play.

I own one and can't find any way to actually physically play it without leaning over it and hurting my back within 15 minutes.
>>
>>3167484
I think the vive and oculus are gimmicks too
>>
>>3167506
That depends on your definition of gimmick. Is something a gimmick if it is successful?
>>
>>3167517
>In marketing terminology, the term gimmick refers to a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is generally thought to be of little relevance or use. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature.
Yes, it is a gimmick you dumb ass

Not so fun part is VB is more comfortable for my eyes than GearVR
>>
>>3167520
never go full /v/, fag
>>
>>3167520
Well then, by that definition VR isn't a gimmick at all.
>>
>>3167534
>isn't a gimmick after all
>Implying VR is useful in anyway currently in any games released for oculus so far
>>
>>3167564
VR isn't being forced on people like motion control and amiibos are. Buying a VR device is completely optional, as is playing video games in the first place.
>>
>>3167573
Then nothing vidya related is a gimmick by your definition, since games aren't forced.
Kill yourself.
>>
>>3167475
IT DOES LOOK LIKE SHIT

yea that was brilliant
>>
>>3167573
>being forced on people like motion control and amiibos

lol
>>
>>
>>3167573
Much of the reception to modern VR reminds me of the PS3 launch. Sure there are the die hard fans, but there's cynicism all around.

Mostly due to the high price and lack of content, much like the PS3. But there's also the fact that you look like a freak while wearing the headset and many people getting sick from it.

IMO this is dead in the water as consumer tech, but I think it will find a niche in other areas
>>
>>3167212
Oculus Rift has VR porn.
>>
>>3167212
