I know this has probably been answered before but what is the deal with 'popful' games, is it the name of a series, and what kind of games are they? what console are they most prevalent on?

Popful is an aesthetic that is found in many Japanese games (and other media) made in the late 80's and early 90's. The term is borrowed from the title of the game "Popful Mail" which at the time was one of the most prominent examples of the style, and one of the first sort of "anime games" to see a release in English. The term originated on (and I think is still largely contained to) /vr/, and I don't think anybody has given a really solid definition, though it usually involves a juxtaposition of cute and fantastical elements, along with things like low-resolution pixel art/pixel animation.
