The point is newbie profiteers desperately trying to make money off of a fad. They don't know what the fuck they're doing so they try to squeeze out a few more pennies by having things graded and slabbed. Fad collectors don't know any better so they buy into shit like this because they think that people actually care about some self-proclaimed authority assigning a number to things.

I understand slabbing especially rare and pristine comic books (hopefully after reading them once), but not games. You only really need like 20 minutes to thoroughly enjoy a comic and never really need to read it again, but games are meant to be played a while and produce a different experience.
