It probably depends on how much of the show you've seen. There's some obscure things in there from a bunch of different seasons.

>>
>>3026086

>>
>>3026092
When it was first translated years ago the order was all over the place.
>>
>>3026102
considering how much continuity this show has it must have been awful, jumping between solid Arino and punished Arino over and over
>>
>>3026075
They used another "hype" soundtrack, it was from a 80 movie, can't remember which one, but it was some Indiana Jones bootleg
>>
Any particular reasons why seasons 5 and 6 are shorter than the others?
>>

5th was shorter because of Arino's daughter birth.

As the one that made that soundtrack compilation, yes. Very many tracks were just used for a single episode, or only like a ten second snippet was used for a segment intro. Some tracks you need to listen to for a fair time before you hear the bit they used (Quatermain March and Jack's Theme, for instance). And some tracks are the original songs that were covered for some segment intros (Hello Goodbye and Chijou No Hoshi).

This isn't something that just I did for shits and giggles, the actual soundtrack CD (tracks 1 through 17) also have some quite questionable picks (when the fuck was Jagged Heart Lullaby used in the show? I asked this several times and never got an answer), so I just continued the theme.

Though the Challenge Piano Medley track was just something somebody linked in the thread and which I threw in for shits and giggles, that's true.
>>
>>3027553
The first track on the official soundtrack CD, the Cameraman Abe music, is a 128 kbps MP3 that's been turned into a WAV file.

What games do you want Arino to play?

Any Kinnikuman game

Arino already played a bunch of NES games i love so i am okay

Who picks which episodes get translated? The Vietnam special had the most fucking boring game I've seen him play.
>>
>>3028337
I'd like to see an actual RPG, either Chrono Trigger like the other anon mentioned, SR RPG, or one of the Dragon Quest games (whichever is shortest). It would make a cool 2 or 3 part "epic journey" challenge. Arino loves grinding so he'd probably be down.
>>
>>3028381
An episode has 1200 lines to time. Someone does all that for many days and then if a translator doesn't like the episode it basically sits for years, useless.

They didn't offer an official reason for season 6 having only eight episodes. It was the only season that featured a proper ending - should it be the last one, they tried to finish it on a high note.

>>
>>3028928
>>3029504
The point was to provide an answer to who decides which episodes are translated. Either you have the first scenario in which episodes are pre-timed/"typeset" and the translator decides when to act on them, or else you have a translator making demands from on high for ad hoc timed episodes. In either case, it's the translator.

Your Ouder Mongolian kinetoscopes are 22 minutes long and GCCX is 58 minutes.

What would you do for StarTropics, have Nakayama by his side the whole time awkwardly translating?
>>
>>3030387
I just verified this. The list says TV-Nihon made an incomplete sub for Metroid. My copy of the sub is less than 43 minutes long. The three interview people on the list are in the intro screen at the start of the sub, but the interview isn't in the sub. TV-Nihon must have cut out about 15 minutes.

Dude because it eats disk space like a motherfucker. And let's face it, it's mostly a guy sitting on a chair playing games that barely reach 360p. ~30fps and 480p are plenty for this.

Yes, I know, "buy another disk", and while it's true that it's not all that much money per tb, if every show went as elitist with video encodes, it would scalate real quick. I have a huge screen and I don't see any distracting artifacts when watching in full screen in 480p, if you guys are so distracted by a stray pixel or a "slightly off" motion, maybe the problem is on you.

With GnT it's at least more likely since Downtown for them has always been much more of a full-time job than GCCX is for Arino. While there's a lot of work in the latter as well especially now that it's so popular, it's not something he does on a daily basis so the odds of him burning out on games are low. If anything he appreciates them more than most of us considering how little downtime outside of work he seems to have.

Whether or not GCCX continues is up to the producer(s) and I don't think they've expressed any sentiments about not doing the show much longer.

If anything, the editing isn't what it used to be. There's way too much focus on Arino's playing skills and less emphasis on telling a compelling story out of it. Earlier seasons put much more effort on this, the dramatic music, narration and everything.

I'm not saying the entire challenge is scripted, frendo. But many "moments" in the show history are, to make for more interesting television. Like his exaggerated reactions or arino casually forgetting to continue the game to make the final hours more tense in a game that he was coasting till that moment. You can deny all you want but when arino is having too much of a good time that doesnt make a good episode and the staff have to improvise in several ways to make it more watchable

>>3052983

I kind of doubt that. If you assume that there is interference to create "moments" for the sake of interesting television, a lot of things don't make sense anymore.

Like Arino just casually coasting through the hardest section of Ninja Spirit. Episodes like Parappa The Rapper, the quick clears without any real problem whatsoever. Episodes like Tomato Kingdom, which are just atrocious front-to-back and should have been scrapped from the get-go. Episodes like Ocarina of Time, where like half the game is just skipped because it took too long.

If they're interfering to create more interesting television, then they're doing kind of a bad job at it.

Arino is incompetent enough that he creates enough problems on his own, seen in things like the live Super Mario Kart challenge versus fans in the Paris Special where he was just completely atrocious, and he's charismatic enough that he can make episodes where he's doing well fun as well.

Also, are you implying that things like the miracle clear in the Super Bomb Jack were made possible through such tampering and the live audience just shut up about it?

Seems to me that the more we assume that scripting goes into a GCCX episode, the more questions pop up as to why those things weren't scripted as well, and I feel like his displays in some of the live specials show well enough that yes, he's totally capable of making these stupid mistakes over and over again on his own accord.

>You can deny all you want but when arino is having too much of a good time that doesnt make a good episode

There's plenty of episodes where he does well and they always cut the parts where he or an AD has to replay back to where he was after a failure, the only thing him getting stuck does is force everyone to stay there for longer while increasing the cost of producing the episode. And nobody is going to stay at work voluntarily for 14 hours instead of 8-10 just to get "added tension" to an episode when that's never been the factor that makes an episode good or bad, there is literally nobody that would benefit from such a thing.

Constantly trying to see scripted stuff where there isn't any is the weirdest thing about /gccx/.

But japs love Princess Tomato and that episode as well

You're using your own view instead of taking japanese media in consideration, and as >>3053129 said, japanese shows are heavily scripted down to the reactions on the facecams that they love so much

Again, most of the show is just Arino playing normally and doing his stuff, but when they need to spice up things or intervene in an entertaining (for japs - the show isn't even transmitted here, they don't give a shit) manner, they will. It happened before, it will happen again. This doesn't make GCCX any less entertaining - it just makes me appreciate the TaMaGe sessions more

Get mplayer and put it in System32 or wherever and be like

mplayer dvdnav://%title% -dvd-device %input% -nocache -dumpstream -dumpfile %output%

The advice stands for anyone wishing to make available DVD-only content at source quality without uploading the entire disc (just the episode / segment). mplayer is open source and command line.

Title number can be seen in a media player's information / stats while playing a given title. Directory pointing to input would be "D:\GCCXDVD\VIDEO_TS\" if D: is the DVD drive. The entire process takes a few seconds to dump the title. Easier to upload a gigabyte than 9 GB.

Strongly recommended for all unseen bonus challenges as well as RGM versions of Shiren the Wanderer.
>>
>>3053986
ISO would be good too, the R-Type director's cut could have the extra scenes spliced in with the regular ones from the episode for a super-episode with all TamaGe and segments.

Sadly, it doesn't work as well in picture form.

Also, in other news, remember that one goon whose Mario Maker course got featured on the show, promising to send Arino a bottle of Johnnie Walker if he beat his level, then deciding to send him one anyway, even though Arino didn't beat the level?

You probably don't, it only got mentioned in like one post here: >>3034242

Turns out shipping alcohol into Japan is a bitch, and so that guy worked together with Kakaricho to make sure the whiskey makes it to Arino.

I mention this because it sure made it there. It got featured in the Seicross episode. So you can look forward to that getting subbed super-fast, I'm sure.
>>
>>3057795
Thank you for posting Did you have a Dendy as a kid?

>>
Does SA even purchase Johnnie Walker Blue Label or is it some inferior breed?
>>
>>3058313
What?
>>
>>3058127
No, only SEGA. Dandy was considered console for poor kids, but there was 1 game EVERYONE wanted to play, it was some bugged version of TMNT, 1 kid in our class had it and we tried to beat it for ages, but the Shredder was insane, i would even dare to say he was immortal. Other than that, genesis was considered ultimate console to have, until PS came out. We never knew word "nindendo", lol.

that episode was frustrating
>>
>>3059746
How so? Arino clearly loves simulator games so he was in his element. They should really get him to play the SNES version of Populous or Sim City, but that would make for horrible footage since there is no tension in the game and it would entirely rely on staff interaction. (Same thing that makes or break quiz game episodes)

>>3057987
Who gives a shit about SA? The goon's job is to churn out subs at a reasonable pace. (Which they don't.) And our job is to watch them and then bitch about how slow they are in producing subs and their stupid attempts at localization. This is pretty easy to follow.
>>
>>3060705
more towards the end when he got so into the simulator part he forgot to actually beat the boss, wasted a lot of time and didn't even used his stardust attacks that COULD have killed the boss, he really fucked up towards the end
>>
>>3060709
It was pretty clear he loved the simulator part and he was so absorbed into it he didn't even remember he was being recorded. They made a not that he was quiet for an entire hour while building up his world.

As for Stardust, I forget do you get your magic back if you die? If not, he was probably being conservative with his magic and saving it for when his back was against the wall. Granted he wasn't that good at the combat sections to begin with.
>>
Also note that the japanese Actraiser is a lot harder than the west release. Just my 2cc.
>>
>>3060726
the staff could have called you and reminded him, i am sure they did something similar in the past, i think with the Adventure Island episode

the spells were there and he saved them for the frost dragon, but he only used two if i can remember correctly, he could still use them on the second form and judging by the size of the boss it could have been very effective
>>
>>3060734
>Also note that the japanese Actraiser is a lot harder than the west release
What are the differences?
>>
>>3060741
Well the justification would be that doing the simulator part leveled his stats up so it would make the final part of the game more manageable.

The Mario Maker episode that was recently subbed. You see how Arino treats "web celebrity video game" people.

If Arino and "The Nerd" were ever in the same venue / event / program then cuckmemes would become 10x stronger due to Arino's sick burns. He's got the daddy pants when it comes to retro game playing.
>>
>>3072671
Isn't Arino like the original let's player or something, too
>>
>>3071981
The end of one season means the start of a new one soon.
>>
>>3072679
The Mario Maker episode certainly made it seem as if he views all late-comers as imitators and amateurs, worthy of mockery. Seems justified.

The Nerd at least has 10 years of history and plays a character. Both have a movie regarded as a crushing disappointment. Both fan groups wish the Nerd / the Chief were sucked into a game for the movie.
>>
>>3072671
It only seems that way because Arino has an entourage of camera guy and producers who giggle at everything he says, even when it's not funny. You should pay attention to when he's playing a game or at a game center, he'll say something like "oh, there's a game machine" and 3 people laugh like it was a joke instead of a statement
>>
>>3072701
Whereas when the Nerd tries to be funny, Mike will look into the camera to mock him because he does not command the same respect that Arino does.

Let's see how long it takes for the Nerd to call Miyamoto "Shiggy" to his face.

The worst is when the Cult of Sadness that dominates Arino threads tries to convince people to buy the "Retro Game Master" DVD set.

>>3079352
Oddly enough I think there are problems if you take a 60 and try to bring it down to 30 also, because if it's going to be 30 the fields have to be blended with that in mind from the start from the original TS.

Winds up looking choppy as hell. Plus in video game footage it can make flicker effects either go full invisible or not flicker at all.

Even worse if someone actually unironically tries to make it 24, since then it's not only choppy but also uneven.

s4ep25 - Quiz: The feudal lord's ambition if I'm not entirely mistaken.
>>
Why does Inoko MAX get no love? Just finished season 9 and there's been no mention of him since the end of his season. Was Arino too much for him?
>>
>>3086506
Dude was a spaghetti factory from day one, he did make up for that eventually but his incompetence crippled him pretty hard, hell Urakawa stuck around for a long ass time because of how good he was at games, and Toujima was the first so he gets some credit for that too

Anyone remember which episode it is when he's laying out one piece of candy for each staff member, then he gets to her and goes "Watanabe, Watanabe, Watanabe"?
>>
>>3086957
It was kind of fun, but I thought the humor of that segment ran its course pretty quickly.
>>
>>3079558
>Oddly enough I think there are problems if you take a 60 and try to bring it down to 30 also, because if it's going to be 30 the fields have to be blended with that in mind from the start from the original TS.
Well that's true enough. Theoretically you can get one frame per field by scaling up each field by 2x and not lose any information, but since the compression is lossy you will lose a little bit every time you re-encode the video. Plus nobody deinterlaces like that because it creates a jittering effect. Still I'd rather have a 60fps encode than a 30fps because it has more to work with.
>>
>>3072617
really wish someone would do this. it's the last episode I want to watch
>>
>>3088131
Only bit of translation would be opening Arino speech bubble and the menu screen, things like that. Maybe some signs throughought the episodes. Simple matter to OCR the translated segments and offset the timing to fit within the ripped subs from the .VOBs.

Just need those .VOBs. This deletion of legit GCCX content seems to hint that it's all futile though.

>>3088097
Now that SA has embraced high framerate content it seems that suppliers of .TS have decided to release low frame/bitrate encodes rather than source material. Unsure how this benefits anyone.
>>
>>3077212
I wish they made two episodes on that game. There were some really good boss fights, but I wanted to see him explore too.

Kan: Is there anything you'd like for Season 20?
Arino: I dunno if it's okay to say this, but I want to play something on the PS2
Kan: That's for 10 years from now, at the earliest

How sad. Arino's been wanting to play God of War ever since they visited that Western games shop in Akiba like 10 years ago.

so i watched it

the pacing is like batman versus superman, awful, but in a different manner

he spends HALF THE SHOW on the final level, reminds me of bonk episode but even that was better cause harder bosses, quest for ki finale, and all the bullshit he has to deal with when he reaches the last level and still ends up spending half the episode there. Yet that one is still far more enjoyable.

This episode had me hyped and it killed my hype about 20 minutes in.

Is it just me or most of the sound effects in this game were stolen from Super Mario Bros?
>>

You can't quite "steal" sounds from that era, they were pretty much instructions to the chips and not something like a "wav".
You can create them, intentionally, to sound similar, though. Or sheer coincidence.

For a series that's been airing for 13 years, the quality has stayed remarkably consistent for sure.
>>
>>3093740
I feel like the quality hasn't been very consistent lately. The Mario Land 2 episode was okay, but stuff like the 10,000 makers Mario challenge was just bad. In general the show was way funnier before 2010 but then again that's to be expected and I do agree the quality has stayed fairly high compared to other long running comedy shows.

famicom/nes: mega man 5
game boy: mega man 5, though this one is completely different compared to the NES one, with bosses and stages based on the planets of the solar system. Would be neat to see him do MM5 for NES then suddenly next challenge is him being like "I will challenge... Mega man 5 for gameboy! Didn't I just do this?"

SNES/superfamicom: Sim City. I know this may be a weird choice but hear me out. Arino ended up loving the town building portion of Actraiser so i feel he'd love the shit out of Sim City. There is no ending, so the challenge would be to build up to a metropolis or megapolis. With editing there is enough new things that happen to keep it interesting, from building up to a village and town and city, to getting the park and bank and such. Or showing he has to deal with crime/pollution, or the natural disasters. He'd probably end up loving the soundtrack too for how comfy and cool it can be.

sega: fighting masters

N64: bomberman 64 or cruisin USA on medium or hard difficulty (of course they'd give him the appropriate tier vehicle).
