I put it to you that the brief window in time when 16 bit CD addons were state of the art and recieving plentiful games was an unrecognized golden age for gaming.

I hear you pointing out the awful FMV based games for Sega CD, but if you look past those, there were some shining gems for the system that really leveraged the strengths of the format properly, like the Misadventures of Flink, Popful Mail and Soul Star.

PC Engine CD escaped the FMV craze by not being powerful enough for it. Instead we got far superior and still lovely looking pixel art based animated cutscenes like those seen in the intro to Rondo of Blood or Lords of Thunder. These were a superb treat for the eyes and (thanks to CD quality audio) the ears as well.

CD based 16 bit console gaming had all the pixel art appeal of that generation but the CD audio overcame the limitations of the sound chip and the CD storage space overcame the limitations of cartridges with respect to unique environmental artwork, animations, etc.

It truly was a treat for those who appreciated what it brought to the table and were discerning enough to let the tidal wave of FMV sewage pass them by.

An underrated thing about Sega CD games, and maybe PCE-CD (never played) is that the game data is so small that load times aren't really an issue.

>Sega CD
It's a shame that most of the good shit on there is so expensive nowadays, then again it has no copy protection so..
>>
>>3000751
>unrecognized
You mean the LPfags aren't sucking at the games while making stupid comments? Those of us who had it at the time recognized it. Agree 1005 on the superiority of the PCE cut scenes.
>>
>>3000751
pc engine is 8 bit bro
>>
>>3000751

Most of the arranged CD tracks sound cheesy compared to the arcade originals. If they just had an upgrade to put in the soundchip from the DX-7 or YM2151 that would have been amazing.
>>
>>3001236
So was the Genesis then. One of it's chips was also 8 bit. So according the the rules defined by one autist on 4chan that makes it 8 bit. kek.
>>
PCE in general and especially PCECD was woefully under-represented in the west and Sega CD had some good games but to call that era a golden age is inaccurate
>>
>>3000751
It was a golden age in Japan (particularly because it took anime games to the next level) but sadly never reached any good potential here.
>>
>>3001586
Genesis is actually 32bit, don't tell anyone.
>>
>>3001650
32 bit registers, 32 bit address space, good enough for me.

Atari Jaguar is 64 bit. Do the math.
>>
>>3000751

This is a good time for gaming.

TurboDuo
Sega CD
Neo-Geo CD
Sega Saturn

Later systems all turned to shit. God 3D is shit.

PSX never should have hit the market.
N64 is shit.
Atari Jaguar is shit.
3DO is shit.
What a joke. Saturn should have won.
I guess the Ameriniggers like 3D cheap crap. It's like ChinkMart for Video Games.

lol that the NES and SNES had CD add-ons that failed.

you are such a little pissbaby

Yeah, Piss on 3D, Baby.

You do know Saturn is also among the very 3D systems you hate right?

Yup, it was real. The load times were so awful they literally re-released a new version of the console later with an upgraded, faster CD drive. If you were an early adopter you could just go buy a nearly identical console or suffer load times of several minutes.
>>
>>3001097
Yeah, just a shame that bypassing region lock can be a real pain.
>>
>>3002738
>running a program or installing a chip is a real pain
That's some God tier lazy right there.
>>
>>3002690
We know what it is, jackass. It just sucks
>>
>>3002738
Flashing the bios from a cart is possibly the least pain of bybassing region protection on any console I've ever seen that has "real" region locking. (As opposed to something like the SNES which just has a tab of plastic keeping the cart from going in).

That nub is sexier than touching a girl's nipples for the first time, though.

the pc engine is widely accepted to be and is in fact 8 bit and same goes for the mega drive being 16 bit bro
>>
>>3000751
Love those old PC Engine CD games, especially Gradius. Great soundtrack, fàm.
>>
>>3004448
PC engine is still officially 16-bit, no matter how weak it is. Also still has 16-bit graphics and a pretty speedy processor

Just compare n64 and ps1. N64 should be 32-bit
>>
>>3002690
the drive was not faster, it had more ram to reduce loading
