American marketing for the SM was handled by Tonka, rather than Sega themselves. Tonka of course, had no fucking idea what to do with a video game console and ultimately drove the system's US release into the fucking ground with their awful decisions, the formula cover art being one of the largest.

Some of these really do look like they were cropped from a "Kool Computer Art for Kidz!" stock disk or something.

Something about the SMS in general just rubs me the wrong way. It makes it really hard to enjoy. Something to do with the sound and visuals. It's just janky as hell in every possible way compared to the NES.
