What are some oldschool videogames that I can play in 16:9 and/or 480p60?
>>
N64 has some faux widescreen games.
>>
>>2952098
>faux widescreen
What do you mean? Like anamorphic widescreen, or something else?
>>
>>2952091
Donkey Kong 64
>>
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Banjo-Tooie
DK64
Rayman 2

probably others on n64 also
>>
>>2952113
>GTASA
NOT RETRO.
>>
>>2952091
Don't, widescreen is the trend that killed gaming into cinematic shit that plays itself.
>>
>>2952138
>a fucking aspect ratio is what "killed gaming"
I fucking hate the old farts in this place

Stars!
You need a 32 bit Windows for widescreen support and backwards compatibility but it runs at arbitrary resolutions.
>>
>>2952138
But FMV in games didn't?
>>
>>2952147
>not reading the goddamn sticky
Why did you link where you came from, newfag?
>>
>>2952204
>Pretending the sticky ever meant anything on this board

It did, fuck off.

>Pretending the sticky is law

From Mewt's mouth itself, which will was passed on to Hirotomo.

>Pretending a 1999 cutoff ever made any sense

It does, fuck off.
>>
>>2952123
I know Jet Force Gemini has widescreen too
>>
>>2952204
i think the cutoff should be shifted to 01 but cmon now, 2005 isnt retro yet
>>
>>2952223
>'01
Yea, nah. Gen 6 systems (excluding DC) lived until the fucking 2010's. That shit ain't retro at all.
>>
Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition has widescreen support

I think pretty much any game based on the Quake engine or derivatives supports widescreen resolution although you might have to set it manually through game files. Doom ports also support widescreen.

>>2952163
I have no idea what I'm looking at
>>
>>2952232
Retro in /vr/'s definition means vintage games and systems before the year 2000. Please understand.
>>
>>2952204
Give this fucking clown a permaban, I can handle straight trolling but this type of thing shouldn't be tolerated.
>>
>>2952256
Unfortunately, permabans are useless until everyone is using IPv6.
>>
>>2952234
A modification for excel that lets you command a stellar empire.
>>
>>2952261
>meme ftw
>>
>>2952267
The 'actual definition' is irrelevant to this board. If you disagree take it to /qa/ or move to a different website.
>>
>>2952223
>2005 isnt retro yet
It isn't and will never be retro. As simple as that.

>>2952238
This.
>>
>>2952091
Pac-Man World for PS1 has widescreen.
>>
>>2952102
I assume he means letterboxed.
>>
>>2952407
The full game, or just menus? I wasn't aware PSX could output 16:9.
>>
>>2952414
Bloody Roar 2 was widescreen too
>>
>>2952414
The full game. I think it still outputs 320 x 240, but the field of view is wider. Is that what anamorphic widescreen is?
>>
>>2952414
PSX wide-screen was accomplished by having the console render a 16:9 image, it's then up to the TV to stretch it. Most TVs of that time had a 4:3 or 16:9 option in the menus of the TV itself.

Also, Gran Turismo 2 on PSX.

This

Get the fuck out of here, children.
>>
I come to /vr/ to get away from these kinds of shitposts, please give it a rest.
>>
>>2952672
I think the rules are fine as they are but honestly I'm starting to change my mind because this child is such a dick in every thread. If changing the rules will get autistic assholes like this to finally shut up, then it's totally worth it.

You're ruining your cause, anon.

This. I support the rules as well but I've seen more shitposting and whining from people that profess to agree with me. I'm honestly at the point where I could see 6th gen being beneficial to this board.
>>
Virtua Fighter (32X) - Probably the first console game to support widescreen ever
Panzer Dragoon Zwei (Saturn)

(sorry if not enogh oldschool)
>>

>>2952764
Don't like my post? Tell the people shitposting with PS2, Xbox, GCN, GBA and other non-retro games to stop poking the beehive. Then I will "finally shut up", you pussy.
>>
>>2952835
But he was on your side, anon...
>>
>>2952440
It outputs 512x240 so it's fairly close to widescreen. 4:3 gives more detail, 16:9 gives more image. Luckily everything in there is 3D so it doesn't get stretched.

The first two Darius games had a widescreen display by stitching 3 screens together.
>>
>>2953475
that's insanely cool

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ieh4TtbvDc
Masterjun did a lua script to realistically synthesize the missing edges to form a 16:9 viewport. Still far from perfect and as far as I understand, still works only with SMW, but I'm confident our children will see SNES emulators with 16:9 hacks
>>
>>2953660
Isn't this script just following the screen along a map image?
Vid related comes to mind.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSjRP429K8s
>>
>>2953475
But it's not 16:9.
>>
>>2953693
16:9 is also not widescreen standard.
Widescreen standard is 1.85:1. 16:9 is just the HDTV version.
>>
>>2953702
There is no widescreen standard. Anything wider than 1.37:1 is widescreen.
1.85:1 is common for movies but so is 2.35:1.
The most common for retro games is 16:10 because it was used by various computer systems.
Op specifically asked for 16:9.
>>
>>2953715
lol you just looked that up on Wikipedia. what a noob
>>
>>2953671
How do I play this?
>>
>>2953730
I would have said 1.33:1 otherwise.
>>
>>2952234
>>2952282
Serious answer: It's like MOO2 but a bigger pain in the ass to setup in DOSBox. And it's butt-ugly.
>>
>>2953671
Does he play it on a 60' screen? 'Cause on a 20' monitor, they look like ants.
>>
>>2953671
Nope, the tiles are read from the VRAM directly.

>>2954071
In that video, nobody's "playing" anything. It's a video superimposed on a massive map image. Like https://youtu.be/3Z9QRSCrj0I
