Jazz Jackrabbit 3D for the PC would have ran on the Unreal engine. The public test demo version is easy to find. There are a few levels but not a whole lot to do. I think there might be multiplayer too.

I think the rpg aspect would have been very limited. It looked like a very pretty zelda clone. The dogs abilities could have been interesting maybe.

I'm happy we eventually got mother 3 but I still wonder about the n64 version. The concert art makes it look really bizarre, even this picture with lucas sitting in the mouth of some mech looks pretty weird. I'm mostly interested in the removed plot points and ending. Itoi said he was thought the original ending he wrote was "dirty" and even talked about how "the ending would make the player question the main character" is really interesting.

A large rpg like that was too ambitious for the n64. Compare it to Quest 64 and you can see why that game has barely any npcs. The dark n64 graphics and lighting would have fit the game perfect. If Nintendo didn't fuck up the N64DD.

And I also don't think he realizes that, even though a lot of people in the comments are intrigued by it, most wouldn't pay more than maybe a few bucks for it. Those who would pay a fair price aren't going to pony up several thousands or some other nonsense since, while interesting, it really isn't that different from the final game. Any other X series proto that has sold within the last year went for right around $1,000. Not cheap, of course, but I suspect that he thinks it is worth a lot more (which it isn't).

A white city Rockman X might command a higher price, but an apparently mostly finished X3 with some different sprites just isn't worth oodles of money to all but the most autistic.

Mad Dancing by HUMAN is interesting in that it was to feature 3 plane fighting akin to Fatal Fury or Guardian Heroes, as well as other unorthodox design choices for a beat em up at the time such as levels consisting of 3 rounds followed by an overall level boss, lacking health restore items and recovering health while holding still or after each round instead, blocking by holding the attack button, crouching while holding the jump button and jumping upon releasing the button, lacking bonus lives meaning if your health bar runs out it's game over. There's also the regular super attacks and special attacks that deplete your energy bar with each use. There's no gameplay video currently available and it's unknown if someone possesses the game.

Another interesting game is Aztec21's Warlocks of the Fates for the Neo Geo, the first sprite-based fighting game to feature flying and air dashing. A company called NCI announced that they had obtained a proto cart and were location testing it before reproducing it for commercial distribution, but that was back in 2012 and there has been no update ever since. The game itself might be crap but the graphics and music are really awesome.

Not retro but Ken-Ju for the Atomiswave arcade platform was to be Sammy's, the studio publishing the Guilty Gear series and creators of the Rumble Fish games, first attempt at a 3D fighting game. Featuring cel-shaded graphics and interesting character designs, it went through location testing before ultimately being scrapped for reasons unknown to this day. A proto appeared for sale back in 09-10 that fell in the hands of a greedy Assemblergames hoarder.

Hmm, this seems likely. It would be very difficult to kill a non mind-controlled Claus considering he was the catalyst that kicked off the story in the first place (Wondering where he is, is he alright, etc) The fact that Lucas is the one who would have to kill him makes it worse.

Thanks these all look awesome. I've never seen KenJu before but those cell shaded models look really good. Gameplay reminds me of Rival Schools. Arcady type games are my favorite and its sad that so many get abandoned or go missing thanks to collectors. Warlocks also looks great but the voice samples are slightly annoying. Mad Dancing would have been interesting and probably played more like a fighting game rather than streets of rage.
