SotC was absolutely monotonous and the original PS2 version probably cause numerous cases of eye cancer around the world. Ico was cool though.

Castlevania bloodlines. It has like 22 bosses/subosses and only like 6 levels.

SotC picks up towards the end, the final 3 colossi are the best. The first whatever, 13 suck because your stamina is so fucking low and you can so easily get thrown off. The final 3 are the only ones that really feel like they were well developed and designed encounters.

All the colossi come down to:
>do scripted sequence to get onto it
>climb on it and pray you get lucky and it doesn't shake excessively causing you to run out of stamina before you reach the next rest point
>rest
>Get onto weak point
>Stab it
>if theres another weak point, find it, and if you get thrown off repeat the entire process

I respect Ico a shitload more then I respect SotC. I don't even think Ico is that good, but it is an interesting case of utilizing a lot of restraint.

I think as a game Ico is pretty shit honestly, it would've fared better as a short film. Its full of some dumb bullshit like jumps that are way too precise (mainly the water wheel area), scripted climbing, and really monotonous and boring combat. At it's core it's a game long escort mission and that's inherently terrible.

How anyone thinks either SotC or Ico are gods gift to gaming is beyond me. People who think the last guardian is actually going to get released also make me laugh.

Is SOTC retro? No, probably not. But the console it's on absolutely is. That's why we need a rolling year limit instead of hardware.

It's the only arcade game I can 1cc, both games are neat. And until this moment I've forgotten about the NGPC version, I had lots of fun with that when I first discovered this handheld emulation.
