Then he shouldn't have posted the dualshock in the first place. PS only got popular thanks to marketing i.e. memes.

yo don't get the retrolink of these.

the cord area nearest the controller stripped apart. i've never had this happen with any type of controller in my entire gaming life.

get the real deal and an adapter or wire your own.
>>

Impossible. This is objectively the best retro controller.

PS4 controller is pretty rad. They fixed the d-pad and the touchpad has potential - you could map macros to it in theory, since the touchpad recognizes 6 distinct actions (swipe up, down, left, right, push left side, push right side) for emulation purposes.

colored buttons + convex = way better than what NA got.

I actually like how SNES has both convex and concave buttons, and I like the purple and light purle colors, but SFC colored buttons are definitely funner.

Dualshock is based on the SNES controller and literally improved upon it in every way.

Meanwhile, Nintendo went full retard with its next controller on the N64
>>
>>2905971
>improved upon it in every way.

Except for giving it one of the stupides d-pads ever conceived. The only good thing it did was adding 2 extra shoulder buttons.

Meanwhile the N64 controller allowed for creative developers like treasure to come up with really unique and awesome control schemes that can't be replicated with any other controller.
Of course, not every developer is Treasure.
>>
>>2905971
>Dualshock is based on the SNES controller and literally improved upon it in every way.
DS1
Digital/ Dual Analoge/DS1
-Shitiest 1st party DPad at that time. Was only surpassed by DC and Xbone later.
The two with the sticks have their own issues. Pretty good controllers. Segmented dpad is full retard though.

I actually liked the D-Pad on all three of the current gen consoles.

I meant Xbox there. Xbox and 360 are trash. Not exaggerating either those dpads are absolute shit.

Xbone got it right by copying Nintendo.

>>2905793
The biggest problem with these guys are that the analog sticks are practically useless where located. It never felt right to use the left one, and the right one is one good for tank controls (which it excels at).

Other than that they are great.
>>
>>2905974
You're forgetting the vestigial GC D-pad.
>>
>>2905985
Nintendo's patent on the plus-shaped D-pad design finally expired. That's why.
>>
>>2905989
The only problem with that dpad is the size. Games of that time didn't really use it anyway.
>>
>>2905989
Had the d-pad actually felt like the NES or SNES pad, it would have been perfect where it was. Instead it was so stiff that often times you couldn't use it for precision motions because you'd press diagonal when you meant right. This was a huge problem when it came to the gameboy player.
>>
>>2905990
Dpads are more than just shape.

Whoever made the 360 dpad should had been fired. That thing is such a pile of trash. It uses a 3-piece design kinda sorta like old SEGA genesis controllers but with screws. It’s the example of how to fuck a dpad up.

XBone is a Nintendo copy. Single pivot and cross just like Nintendo. Simple and works very well. They use tactile switches though like in the 3ds.
>>
>>2905793

Word. Especially the original japanese one. The only problem is the short cord.

I can appreciate Sony putting 2 analogue sticks instead of just one, but they really do suck. They're awkwardly placed and they have a LOT of dead zone, not precise at all. Try playing a game like Starfox or Sin and Punishment or any game that requires precise aiming with a dualshock and suffer.
>>
>>2906013
The deadzone comes more from the developers then the sticks being "traditional" potentiometer sticks.
>>
>>2906018
Are more modern sticks coded wheel based, sorta like old mice?
>>
>>2906023
Beats me. Most modern stuff while still has a deadzone is a lot smaller than PS1/PS2.
>>
>>2906026
Eh, something tells me that new stuff is implemented with pots too, just better made. Thinking about the N64 controller makes me remember that era was the advent of thumb sticks, and clearly they've come a long way.
>>
>>2906031
Everything modern is pots. And everything is shit in terms of performance with deadzone to the N64's optical sticks and Saturn/DC magnets.

...wut? It's an analog stick, you move it around in different directions to control the game. You moved it with your hand instead of your thumb but it was still analog.
>>
>>2906050
It wasn't analog. It is literally a stick that presses a dpad. The Vectrex had an actual analog stick.

The DualShock came too late, no devs wanted to develop games that actually required the analogs to play because that would reduce their potential consumers.

The Snes controller is truly the best controller of its time, the diamond shaped face buttons and shoulder buttons become a staple to every controller and the total of 6 action buttons was just perfect to port arcade games without awkward controls. It just wasn't perfect because the Snes controller is flat, not the most anatomically comfortable at all.
>>
>>2906075
your nomad is broken
>>
>>2906076
It's a bad design because the shoulder buttons force you to operate 4 buttons with 1 thumb. The 6 button Genesis controller also has 6 main buttons but you have a maximum of 2 per finger.

Objectively best controller is hitbox (stickless arcade stick). But I use a traditional arcade stick because I don't want to lose the ability to play in arcades.

None locally, but they are not completely extinct yet.
>>
>>2906085
The 6 buttons Genesis controller also came too late, that's why I said "for it's time". Obviously the Snes controller isn't the best controller of them all, but it was the controller that nailed the most requisites of a new generation of games that were yet to come.
>>
>>2905793
It would be the best ever if the D-pad didn't suck ass.
DS4 is better in that aspect, but the triggers kinda annoy me.

>>
Not saying your opinions are wrong, but I never understood how anyone could think the DualShock was comfortable. The original PS controller was god tier for 2D games but it's so obvious that they just threw on the sticks as a complete afterthought when they needed to. Why they didn't just redesign the whole damn thing like with the PS4 is beyond me.

Wish this was the norm.
>>
>>2907849
Huh, that one is pretty good. Uses the best d-pad shape and a 2x3 button layout.

Does it have enough shoulder buttons/triggers? If it does, then it is perfect in theory.
>>
>>2906050
You have absolutely no idea what analog means.
>>
>>2906076
How did PlayStation owners tolerate 3D games before the DualShock? I had a 64, and it always seemed tedious as hell trying to move in a 3D environment with only a dpad.
>>
>>2907868
Made do.
3d games like Mario 64 weren't really a thing prior.
>>
>>2907858
I believe it had two shoulder buttons. (L & R)

In theory this layout could have been excellent for the Saturn and N64. Too bad such a great design is wasted on a PS2 one-off accessory.
>>
>>2905795
>no joysticks

I believe he said "better"
>>
>>2905793
Since the DualShock, there has never been an opposing controller as versatile as it in every genre out there. When playing arcade oriented genres; such as SHMUPS, traditional fighting games and bralwers, I have felt more comfortable with 6-button pads since their shape were seeming molded to sit nicely on your lap while you have a hand free for pressing the buttons with timed precision. Looking forward to pic related.
>>

>>2909186
>didn't stick with the godly genesis/saturn-style d-pad
>not having 6 face buttons like the saturn
>only one stick

It was okay but the best? Nope.
>>
>>2905849
I like the design of this controller, but I've always hated Nintendo d-pads. They're really stiff. My thumb hurts after an hour.
>>
>>2909195
>didn't stick with the godly genesis/saturn-style d-pad

They did that only so they can shove one up Nintendos arse, since Nintendo has that style of d-pads patented, but Sega found a way around the patent with the DC pad. Something about the entire pad floating above a central little ball.
>>
>>2907868
Acceleration.

In Tomb Raider when you press left or right she turns. If you hold down the button she turns faster.

>>2909493
much lighter, the D-pad is smooth, the triggers r2 and l2 move back to be more comfortable to hold, the lack of cord is definitely a god's send
>>2909498

>>
>>2909760
>haven't tried a ps4 one, but likely yes

It's a DS3 with a d-pad that isn't shit and sized for adults instead of children. Plus touchpad, whatever that's worth.
>>
>>2909792

After playing on the xbone for a while I have to say the DS4 feels a tiny bit small.
>>
>>2909792
>with a d-pad that isn't shit
the d-pad is one of the best things of the DS3, the fuck are you talking about?
>>

The sticks are the same as the later DS2s.

>>
>>2909837
Your're an idiot that thinks your subjective opinion means anything. Newer controls are not as good performance wise as older controller.
>>
>>2909841
I told you that's a lie because I've seen modern controllers last longer and response better than older controllers
>>
>>2909846
That's subjective, champ. Do you know what that word means?

As I said later DS2 and Sixaxis have the same sticks. DS3 are a bit different but overall the same kind of tech.

All modern stuff uses pot technology.
>>
>>2909853
no
it's a fact, modern controllers lasting longer and being more sturdy is not a personal opinion because I can't personally, it is proof of them having been built better
>>
>>2909862
Are you 13 or something? You have no facts to back that up, They use literally the same same sticks in the DS2 and Sixaxis. All are pot technology again.

Yet you say they last longer because..., you pulled it out your ass?

Damn has /vr/ changed.
>>
>>2909837

So it's the same fucking thing except it's wireless, you retarded.
>>
>>2905795

Segafags, jesus
>>
>>2905821

That's why it's the most famous console controller and even a lot of PC controllers from logitech copy it and the design has remained mostly unchanged in 20 years while nobody in the whole world uses controllers like the ones SEGA designed?

Yeah, sure. Memes.

Not the unevenly sized and oddly spaced action buttons, squishy shoulder buttons, tiny and slippy right analog stick, hard plastic left analog stick, and impossible to reach start button?

Did you have a third-party or something? The GC's analog stick was made out of rubber.

>unevenly sized and oddly spaced
It's pretty good for some games.

>squishy shoulder buttons
It's not that bad, you also have to press harder when they're at the end. I don't think any game other than Mario Sunshine actually used that though.

There's nothing wrong with the analog sticks.
