ITT: that one series you wish wasn't dead
Phantasy Star, the real ones.
anything after sonic advance 3 is dead to me
Pretty much every Sega series. But especially Jet Set Radio.
If it's not dead then it's not retro.
Metroid.
Search your heart, you know it to be true.
>>2901887
you're not retro fa.m
It made it until last gen but by now it looks really dead.
F-Zero and Pilot Wings games on the Wii U would be nice.
Also this one.
>>2901870
Juuust scored a Sega Saturn and this game today. Incredibly excited.
On topic though: Bomberman.
One of the most commercially successful franchises in gaming history. Had ~70 games. And now? Best we get is an iOS/Android app announcement.
>>2901870
I loved these games.
Bug was pretty cool too.
>>2901912
RIP Hudson ;_;
Pretty much the only Bomberman games I play these days are Saturn Bomberman, the Super Bomberman games and Bomberman 64.
>>2901870
>one
I could name a shit ton. but in interest of the thread Ill say Fear Effect because they did have a third game planned.
>>2901870
Ghosts n' Goblins and Shinobi.
>>2901889
I love how Metroid fans love using this meme.
You know it to be true...
Ganbare Goemon
This game defined comfiness
Just scootin around in my lil sub, salvaging treasure, trading resources, exploding sea life in a shower of gibs with lightning beams
>>2901912
You should have bought Clockwork Knight 2. It has the entire first game on the same disc as an unlockable.
Good taste though, CK 1 and 2 are among the most charming, polished, soulful games on the Saturn.
>>2901870
My most favorite game series of all-time is not only dead, but even its 20th anniversary was ignored
>>2901910
so many fighting games simply ran their course, and don't need a resurrection. Then, there are games like this one... This game could be so awesome, with the new SF5 engine and some updated costumes for the characters. Hell, even totally new characters playing with the same tropes. like, their everybody's kids, or something.
also, Darkstalkers. because, in this world of grimdark shooters, Tomb Raider clones, and open world RPGs, we need some stupid fun
>>2901953
I would pay so much money for a new traditional ghosts n goblins game
>>2902395
Cross was so bad I never want them to touch the series again.
>>2902249
Ah, I didn't have a say in it, the guy I bought it off of just happened to have it and a couple other games. I'm glad to have picked it up though, maybe a while further down the line I'll pick up CK2 but I just ordered Panzer Dragoon as well so I have plenty to play for a good while now.
not even joking...
>>2902509
You have plenty to look forward to as well. CK2 is a masterpiece that improves on the original in every respect. It also oozes that jazzy 1990s Sega charm.
No contest for me.
Battletoads.
But I'm sure they'd fuck up a modern version of it.
Wild Arms Sixth showdown when.
At the very least I want them to get to Wild Arms Magnificent Seventh
>>2901870
Classicvanias
>>2901870
That game?
... I've played that game. What do you like about it? I'm intrigued.
>>2902229
Tell me about it. I just bought 3 of the ps1 games in hopes of playing it with a guide just to get that Goemon fix. It's ridiculous how they've turned it into a stupid pachinko machine.
>>2902661
How was V and the PsP one? Heard good things. I played the first four and liked each of them, even IV which was realistically subpar.
>>2902825
Not OP here. When I was a little kid I was transfixed by the art style in these games - the colorful characters, as well as some of the levels, like the library level in the second game. It was probably the first 3D (well, 2.5D I guess) game I played where all the models didn't look like complete crap.
I should go play them again and see if they hold up.
Also Rocket Knight Adventures
take your pick
>>2901870
2nd Offense was such a step up to the original and it could have just gotten better too. What happened to car shooters /vr/?
>>2902227
XV looks like it might be good.
>>2903178
>Shenmue
I'm pretty hyped for the new one. Before the announcement was made it was the definition of a series that was dead in the water.
>>2903178
New Virtual On arcade game with a card system like Initial D. Win currency from matches and buy new robot parts/weapons.
Gargoyle's Quest
i hope bloodstained holds up to its pricetag
>>2903186
So did 13 before it came out. I will believe it when I see it.
>>2902847
if you liked the rest of the series you'll like 5
Asgard is awesome
>>2901870
Dont make me talk about that new game
While I attempt to remember the game I was thinking of, I'm going to say, even though it wasn't a franchise, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars deserved a proper sequel
>>2903178
Streets of Rage
Burning Rangers
Vectorman
Nights
>>2903456
Online is a whole new series with the Phantasy Star name attached to it for no reason. Now you're going to tell me Mario is more alive than ever in its Tennis incarnation.
Ten years
>>2903456
It's a totally different series, retard. It might as well be called something else.
>>2903496
Too fuckin' soon, man.... ;-;
I just pretend Zero doesn't exist though. :/
I'm probably gonna be completely alone on these:
Blinx the Time Sweeper
Parappa the Rapper
Manfred Trenz, we need you!
Dungeon Master
>tfw the "every level is unique and absurdly difficult" genre is dead
>>2901873
>modern Sega
Eh, it's better dead to be honest.
>>2903178
>Kid Chameleon
This could have been the coolest franchise. It had an amazing premise.
>>2901902
I'm glad it's dead. Tenchu went to shit over a decade ago.
>>2905091
It was a Mario clone. Still a damn good platformer regardless.
>>2905109
I desagree, all Tenchu games are good except that DS shit.
>>2905114
Nah man. The last decent one was Fatal Shadows. Z had some neat concepts but was a half assed game and all the others started straying way too far from what made Tenchu loved in the first place.
>>2905123
By all the others you mean Tenchu 4?
I admit i didn't played that one, but i liked Z and the Ps2 ones are just great.
>>2905130
There was that and some weird Bomberman styled game. Anyway Shadow Assassins ditched a lot of the core mechanics in favor of an extremely linear game with an RE4 style camera and QTE takedowns.
strider
(classic) resident evil
rocket knight adventures
turrican
streets of rage
thunderforce
banjo kazooie
Wonderboy series
>>2901954
I'm pretty sure it's just the Prime fans. I know Nintendo most likely are going to announce a side scrolling Metroid for the NX handheld at e3 this year.
>>2905039
This.
Old Sega are my favorite developers in the world but everyone who made those amazing games has either left or is working on Yakuza.
Im both surprised and dismayed that Falcom never went any further with popful mail
With today's technology to have more realistic character models & damage to limbs/clothing/scenery, it would be so awesome.
Lunar
>>2903181
it peaked early. Without a competitive fanbase it just kind of fizzled.
>>2905909
THIS
>>2906027
Looks neat but that's more of a Monster Land II clone than an actual sequel, it's like a respectful imitation. Still, I'm glad the original creator of the series is supposedly having some fun with it, but it's just not the same as an entry that acts as a true evolution of the series. Especially without Maki ÅŒzora designing the art and graphics
>>2903178
there is nothing the world needs more right now
than a new Jet Set Radio
>>2901870
Clockwork Knight 2 has a great intro:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY9h5NJD4s8
>>2906876
Well well
Just let me tell you what it's like
Being a pretty girl men like
Baby, it's not easy
>>2901870
Why did you lie to me...
>>2908746
I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and pay $40 for Dark Cloud 2. That game just keeps going up and up and might be $200 in a few more years.
>>2908758
I'd go for it now man, PS2 games haven't really hit a rise in prices yet, and even for $40 now DC2 is so freaking good
>>2908846
I don't see anything special about the gameplay but love the soundtrack. Banjos and christmas songs.
>>2908873
For me, the soundtrack is obnoxious but I enjoy the classic platforming with the key turning mechanics as simple as they may be.
Shinobi
The rocket knight
Monster world
Wiz n Liz...
>>2904787
>Blinx the Time Sweeper
Nope I got your back. The second one was a step down imo, the first was golden though
>>2908846
It has a cheesy 90's Sega charm.
DAAAYYYTTOOOONNAAAAA isn't heaven on the ears either but you can't have Daytona without it
Likewise with ERRBODY'S SUPER SONIC RACING TRY TO KEEP YOUR FEET RIGHT ON THE GROUND
>>2908938
Yeah but I actually like the brit pop of Sonic R
guess its just a distaste for circusy banjo christmas music
>>2901891
Neither is your mom but I still plug her in and play her sometimes.
>>2905110
>A mario clone?
I can't even see how you got this if you played it. He kills enemies jumping on them that's about where the similarities stop.
With the exception of Blood Omen 2, this was an amazing story telling experience. It ended decently, but I feel like they could have come out with one more. Maybe two.
>>2908962
Blocks, power ups, dash button.
>>2902837
KONAMI
>>2908965
All we needed was Defiance 2 to wrap the series up.
>>2903178
Panzer dragoon baby
>>2906949
Patience.
He'll be back... one day.
>>2908971
I would just say that's a platformer.
It was oddly western feeling, desu... felt more like Jazz Jackrabbit or Hocus Pocus than Mario.
>>2903178
Sega had more and better franchises than Nintendo.
When are we going to have a Nintendo VS. Sega Allstars game?
Guardian Heroes. The sequel killed it.
>>2901870
Despite playing it a fuckton at my cousins house, I remembered that Clockwork Knight existed for the first time in like 13 years when I played Undertale, for pic-related reasons
Megaman Legends and Mother comes to mind.
One felt like it needed resolution to the story, so the whole highly calculated almost soulless ReDash seems so pointless. Mother doesn't need one I just really enjoyed the games.
This game was so comfy. I was introduced through PSOII BB's quest with him in it and it was equally comfy. In an ideal world there'd be a special edition for every Holiday too.
>>2903178
Toejam and Earl is getting a revival. I have no idea how it will end up but I funded it just so I could get some toys and more dumb merchandise I kind of regret spending so much money on.

>>2911260
Did you play the Wii game? I love the original Saturn game but I heard mixed things about the sequel.
>>2911267
It's late I worded my post so wrong. I only played the Gameboy Advance version when I was a kid but I have been meaning to play the remastered Saturn Version. I never played the Wii U version. I knew the games existed as a kid but I had no idea where to find a Sega Saturn or even a Dreamcast. The GBA was so much fun but you had to download it from the Gamecube Episode II servers (I meant to EP2 not BB in the last post) so I don't know if I could even play it again.
I wish it was still a franchise, I might have been able to play more games or play them now.
>>2901870
Zelda's sister series left to rot.
Beautiful, wacky series of games. I mean, at least they tried to make a comeback on the PSP, which was not only good, but released internationally, even in 'murica. But I need more.
>>2911267
I grabbed up the Wii one as soon as I could because I was so happy it wasn't being left in the dust. I couldn't tell if it was nostalgia or not, but I didn't really like it. The surface stuff was like, kind of a dumb, involved story (unlike the vague, more effective story of the original) and not quite as charming graphics as the original. But I thought I was just sucking nostalgic dick too hard.
Then I met a friend who said he played the Wii one first and went back to the Saturn after all these years and he said he hated the Wii one as well. I figure it's a mix of trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice, as well as not as good design in most aspects leading to what only looks like a disappointment in comparison.
>>2911267
I didn't play the Saturn one, but I played the Wii one and I didn't like it. Made me less likely to play the Saturn one desu.
Alex Kidd
>>2910764
I heard the Toy Story 3 game was really good.
>>2902224
holy fuck this
>>2904849
They will never make a game this hard again. This is the gold star everybody's a winner generation.
>>2916421
Is there anything these disgusting, degenerate fucking FAGGOTS won't desecrate?
Garou 2 when
>>2908954
DAAAAAAAAMN
Illbleed
>>2902224
fucking capcom, for putting it on the fucking PSP
>>2919762
>Playing it on my PSTV
>>2901870
Croc would be a nice game to bring back.
Lunar. It's a shame how many JRPG series were sent to the grave on the DS and PSP.
>>2916421

Fuck you. Fuck. You.
