Well there was a two-year gap, long enough for Atlus to figure out what needed improvement. I really like what I've been playing of 1 so far (up to Ikekuburo, seems like the halfway point), though.

It's optional, at least, and a means of trying out awesome skills/magic very early on. And the GBA port adds a Vision event where you learn the protagonist's mother got Pascal from "Mr. Nakajima", aka the original demon summoner from Digital Devil Story.
