Who here has played the video game version of The World is Not Enough? I've never seen any discussion on here about it. It's rarely brought up anywhere, for that matter.

It's obviously not anywhere near as good as Goldeneye for a number of reasons, but I'm still curious to see what others thought of it.

Personally, I think it's fun and expanded on a bunch of things Goldeneye did. It's not nearly as smooth as Goldeneye and the multiplayer maps are some of the worst I've ever played, but it's pretty decent.
>>
meh it's alright
>>
I know I rented the psx version back in the day and kinda liked it but that's all I can remember. It was one of those mediocre games you play for a bit, have some fun and then forget about it. Tomorrow never dies was awful tho.

Just don't reply to his retarded meme.

I bought it with its box and manual for 20 bucks. It's fun, in my opinion. It's pretty challenging, however I don't like the reliance on gadgets in that game. It feels like you're entering the menu to select a haven't every few seconds in some situations. I know Goldeneye had gadgets you had to use, but it was generally limited to one per level, two at the most.

I see what you mean about it not being as smooth as Goldeneue. I played them both back to back and aiming (both regular and R button aiming) is a lot easier on Goldeneye. It might be the fact that GE's frame rate is generally better, but it feels like there's something else too.

I feel like this game tried to improve on GE in the wrong ways. It added reload animations, voice acting, it's closer to the movie, and it has bots, but this really doesn't improve the core gameplay at all and the levels are far worse. It's just not as fun in general.

Overall, not bad though.
>>
>>2877873

The PS1 version is different..
>>
>>2877882
>thinking psx is an emulator name

Now who's underage? Lurk more, retard.
>>
>>2877853
I loved the N64 version of this game back in the day. It wasn't excellent, and looking back it was probably actually quite bad, but I dumped a lot of time into TWINE.
>>
I know it was an alright game.
I rented it a few times.
But... I cant remember a goddamn single thing about it. So...
>>
>>2878032
He probably knows where the PSX name really comes from, the PSX vs PS1 thing is a /v/ meme

>>2878031
Different as in Aladdin tier or just some changes here and there?
>>
>>2878057
Differerent developers, so apparently Aladdin tier.
>>
The N64 game is really good. Abysmal engine, but the team managed to overcome its limitations. It's basically the precursor to Nightfire, but less bloated. Eurocom were a great developer.

>The N64 game is really good. Abysmal engine, but the team managed to overcome its limitations. It's basically the precursor to Nightfire, but less bloated. Eurocom were a great developer.
Oddities include:
Game defaults to mono sound.
Engine can't reuse entities to every single light fixture is a unique entity loaded into memory.
The game supports 32bit colour depth, but it runs terribly in this mode. Normal 16bit mode has serious colour banding that is masked with insane amounts of noise.
All "Bond" music had to be removed just before release due to Danjaq fuckery.
MP had to be gimped so "Good can't fight good" for some baffling reason.
The game uses Factor 5's MORT codec for speech. It's one of the few truly good games to use it, along with RE2 and Factor 5's own games. It was primarily used in Disney games like Tarzan and bleeding Elmo games.

MORT has a serious problem in that it doesn't seem to support directional audio for speech. As far as I can tell, all games that use MORT have mono speech dead center with no variations. Rareware used MP3+Miles Sound System for Perfect Dark and Conker, and those games have directional audio.

Me personally loved the PS version. 11 year old me became understand the blackjack game because of this badass. Plus there's also unlockable sex scene.

The two things I remember about the multiplayer in particular are one map set in a snowy, outdoor environment with a kind of monorail that ran around the outside.

The other bit was the homing rocket launcher
>>
>>2878098

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. The music in the N64 version is fucking awful. Meanwhile, GE's soundtrack is GOAT.
>>
it was thanks to TWINE we got perfect dark
truly a blessing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CxpdspOV5I

I rember not getting very far in it after being spoilt by GE and PD
>>
>>2878826

How so? Perfect Dark came out earlier.

If you're saying that PD happened because Rare lost the rights to Bond: they would have made Tomorrow Never Dies next, not TWINE.
>>
>>2878962

He probably meant that, but still, even in that video you can hear the seeds of EA buying the goddamn Bond license and seeing nothing but dollar signs without any of the weird perfect storm of effort that came out of Rare at that specific time and place. Has any Bond game they've made gotten anywhere near the amount of sales/accolades Rare did?
>>

Mortal Kombat Gold exists

Fuck this game to hell.

That is all.
>>

are you me?
>>
>>2877853
IMO this is way better than Goldeneye. There's some stupid parts which only exist to demonstrate the watch abilities.
There are some pretty in depth missions, the graphics are much nicer, moar guns, better dialog ect.
I played the 64 version
>>
>>2879298
You've made a fool of yourself.
>>
sometimes I love you /vr/.

I love TWINE. I only ever played ps1 version, and I know that n64 one is totally different but I never had the opportunity to try it.

Actually went and replayed the ps1 one about a year ago in a day when I had a sick day from work, been years since I played it before that. I think it aged rather well and is pretty playable. It has atmopshere for days and it looks good enough today.

>that casino mission
>that viable stealth
>that fucking terrible mission in the studio or whatever, with hostages and desert eagle, hope you like dying 15 times
>music is goat as usual

However. It goes down to 10fps soooo goddamn often. I didn't mind it that whole much, but it sure is an objective issue.
I still think that MOH and MOH Underground were the best shooters on the system, but this is pretty good. Way better than the abysmal Tomorrow Never Dies.
>>
TWINE is actually really fun. Played it on the 64.

At that point I had already beaten Tomorrow Never Dies and played Perfect Dark, so I was expecting any further James Bond games to be pretty much garbage, since it was out of Rare's hands and TND existed, but it was a pleasant surprise when I actually gave it the time of day. Multiplayer was really fun too. That laser guided rocket launcher was amazing.

The game was a precursor to what they would do with Agent Under Fire and Nightfire later on, which were also reasonably solid titles. I'm happy they didn't double down on the retarded shit that was TND. We would have missed out on some good games.
>>
I played N64 TWINE and thought it was pretty good. The controls date it rather terribly though because you can't move and aim simultaneously. And only half the missions are fun.
I never played multiplayer with people so I can't judge that. The bots are useless though. Too predictable.
I never played GE tho so I can't compare them.

>>2877937
If you hold A and press B it cycles through the gadgets. No need to open the menu. (on n64 at least)
>>
I remember single player being kind of frustrating at some points, in a where do I go wtf do I do with this door/gadget way (probably because I was young), but I still had a ton of fun in multiplayer with friends.
>>
>>2879298
Most of the "not retro" comments are tragically low brow, but this might be the single dumbest one I've seen yet.

>besides, 6th gen is retro, so this game obviously is as well
>>
>>2881685
>I played N64 TWINE and thought it was pretty good. The controls date it rather terribly though because you can't move and aim simultaneously.
Yes you can. Change the control scheme.
>>
>>2877853
I've talked to tons of people who played the crap out of GoldenEye yet they never even heard of The World Is Not Enough.
>>
>>2882363
It's not just as common I think. I only heard about it when I started emulating. Only played it on real hardware at a friends place once.

Now I realized I need to get TWINE for my N64...
>>
>>2879250
>Has any Bond game they've made gotten anywhere near the amount of sales/accolades Rare did?
Probably the shitty CoD reskin that they called a remake. I find it odd that I never find anyone who has a bad thing to say about that crap game.
>>
>>2878098
The other weird thing about the engine is that it loads the full sized textures with mipmaps but only ever displays the smallest mipmap size no matter how close you are the texture. So the textures are basically unnecessarily low-res.
>>
>>2882534
>Probably the shitty CoD reskin that they called a remake. I find it odd that I never find anyone who has a bad thing to say about that crap game.

Maybe everyone who actually played it liked it? My brother played it and he said he surprisingly enjoyed it.
>>

What does this mean? I don't understand.
>>
>>2881685
>I never played GE tho so I can't compare them.

You should play it. It's a lot of fun, especially if you have someone to try out the multiplayer with as well. You're bound to like it if you like TWiNE
>>
>>2882808
This comment was meant for >>2881783

Fuck me for responding to the wrong one.
>>
I've finished the ps1 version a week ago or so, it wasn't bad at all. I preffer it over "tomorrow never dies". Both were quite short, also TiWNE had scenes from the movie before and after each level, in tomorrow never dies you get the movie opening and a few movie scenes in the whole game.
>>
>>2882808

Don't worry. A new board will be created soon for 6th gen.
>>
>>2882363
>I've talked to tons of people who played the crap out of GoldenEye yet they never even heard of The World Is Not Enough.
GoldenEye sold 8 million. TWINE only sold 1.5 million-ish.

>>2882604
>The other weird thing about the engine is that it loads the full sized textures with mipmaps but only ever displays the smallest mipmap size no matter how close you are the texture. So the textures are basically unnecessarily low-res.
I've seen this claimed, but never any technical demonstration. Emulators that support mipmapping look exactly the same when playing this game as ones that don't.

>>2882534
>Probably the shitty CoD reskin that they called a remake.
I tire of this meme. GoldenEye Wii was a Eurocom game (like TWINE and Nightfire), and it plays like a Eurocom game. It's primarily a remake of the film, not the original Rareware adaptation. The writing is shitty, but that's mainly because the film's writing was so good and Bruce Feirstein has been ruining the writing in Bond games for years.

>>2882793
>>MP had to be gimped so "Good can't fight good" for some baffling reason.
>What does this mean? I don't understand.
It was mandated that "good" characters could not fight against "good" characters. They could only fight against "villain" characters. Weird corporate bullshit meddling not unlike the bullshit that DC forced into Superman 64.
>>
>>2877853
Don't think i ever made it passed the sneaking hotel mission.
I like this game because you can fail the first mission the instant you control your character.
>>
>>2883278
>Emulators that support mipmapping look exactly the same when playing this game as ones that don't.

Emulators with mipmapping broken don't have it broken because they can't access the mipmaps but because the LOD level transition is totally broken. As the engine ALWAYS has the level fixed to the lowest mipmap, the emulator just follows that (no need to worry about the transition).
>>
>>2878072
Your mom didn't beat you enough.
>>
the n64 version of this game was incredibly fun with a group of friends. i'm also not sure it's fair to automatically assume that goldeneye was superior, because i thought the multiplayer level design was better in TWINE. perfect dark was better than both of them, but i preferred TWINE over goldeneye.
