Everyday is chest day mother fucker.

Closing in on what is "hopefully" the final moments of the game. Holy shit, Lloyd has gone through some stuff. I bought the 2nd game, but was disappointed to later read its only like 70% translated or something... Is it still worth it?
>>
>>2869323
Yes, the second game is fucking awesome. Great story and much improved gameplay. Just make sure you get the "Ultimate Hits" version (not the original release) because it adds the option to skip battle animations and the battle animations + loading screens take a long time.

Also, not sure if you're aware but the PS1/DS version of FM1 has an additional scenario from the perspective of someone on the other side of the conflict so you might want to play that next.

>Lloyd has gone through some stuff
He sure has. Just wait until you see him in a secret FM2 mission.
>>
>>2869334

Yeah - I'm actually really wondering how this game will end. I'm done playing for the night but fuck I just fought Olsen like 30 times, I dunno what it takes to end this thing.
>>
Gun Hazard is the best.
>>
>>2869323
>Is it still worth it?
It's literally the best game in the series with 5, and all the fanbase agrees on that, which is a rare achievement for a videogame.
>Holy shit, Lloyd has gone through some stuff
You haven't even seen it all anon, but you'll need to play FM2 for that.
Royd is possibly my favorite mecha videogame MC only for his development and storyline, he's really a well written character and one of the rare cases in which writers weren't afraid to go beyond normal MC characterization, you don't see characters like Royd all that often.
>>
>>2869523
'
Is there a translation file for the remaining stuff past the initial translation though? I'd hate to lose whatever % of the story!
>>
>>2869618
Yeah, it's in a text file.

I only played the DS remake of this. The B-device twist threw for a loop.

I actually didn't like the game itself though.

>tfw there will never be a FM6
Fuck 1 and 3 were so good... ._.
>>
>>2869956
3 was bad, 1 was decent (gameplay doesn't hold up that well). 5 has excellent gameplay but the story is really cheesy. I don't see why you can't play it; the translation quality of the patch isn't perfect but it's decent and covers the whole game.
>>
>>2870117
because I lack a modded ps2, and I'm too broke to afford a pc capable of emulating ps2
>>
>>2870117
>3 was bad
HA HA HA! Oh wow...
>>
>>2870134
He's right, 3 doesn't hold a candle compared to 2 except for graphics and music, 2 does everything else better, better cast, better gameplay, better story.
>>
>>2870348
It doesn't make 3 unplayable though.

>>
>>2869323
Everything about the first game looks nice and cyberpunk. Does it have a lot of grinding?

Only ever played 3 and gave up half way, mostly due to the story not gripping me at all.
>>
>>2870529
Parts are more important than levels in FM1.
You can grind if you want, but you'll become an overpowered god quite fast (if you know what you're doing).
>>
>>2870529
Which scenario did you play? Emma's has a giant red herring subplot in the middle 2/3rds of the game that goes nowhere.
>>
>>2870550
No clue, it was years ago around when it first released. All I remember was scenes in China/Hong Kong and some about guys with 'Number #' as their name.

And the internet surfing side-quest, have to admit that was a unique idea.

Side-note: Makes me miss 90's internet thinking about that.
>>
>>2870529

OP here. I didn't really need to grind. You will, through the course of playing, get one or two characters that become OP gods. Or at least, that's how my file went. Both Keith and Sakata are literal Short wrecking machines. Paul and Hans are quickly becoming insane Long machines as well. The end game rockets are just hilariously powerful.
>>
I want to ask the people that played the translated FM2. Do I have to have the script by my side the entire time I'm playing this or can I just manage without it and still enjoy the plot? Also why didn't they insert the missing text in the patch if it's already translated? Technical/space limitations?
>>
>>2871301

Space limitations, from what I heard. Also, since I'll be playing my Japanese copy on an emulator, can ePSXe fast forward?
>>
>can't git gud
Halp.
>>
>>2869334
>the PS1/DS version of FM1
Was the PS1 version translated? I remember the SNES version was buggy, and only plays perfectly on bsnes.
>>
>>2871670
Let a few of your high level members do most of the killing so they level up first. Once they get skills for double punching and related skills, the game is cheese. Missiles and grenade launchers are also good but they take more time for relevent skills to pop up, and limited ammo.

Just remember to upgrade all your parts, and get the fastest legs.
>>
>>2871676
The DS version was translated (officially), and it's the same PSX version.

SNES - original (unofficial translation)
PSX - extra scenario, you play as the other side (no translation), can skip battles
DS - same as PSX version, plus secret stages, but can't skip battles, official translation

>>2871670
Rain missiles on everyone. Missiles can't be countered, so they're kind of a cheap tactic.
>>
>Yet another fantastic game /vr/ has reminded me to play.

I've been meaning to play this series for years now and after having played the first one for a couple of hours I already love it. Also reminds me that I need to play Sakura Taisen sometime.
>>
>>2871481
If you're using Pete's plugin, open its configuration and look for a "..." box after "Show FPS display on startup". There's an option called "Turn off FPS limit while pressed", which is a key you press to turn off the FPS limit. I think the default is 9.
>>
Just started playing FM2 after hearing you faggots rave about it so much, I've only ever played FM3 so far. I have to say I'm having a hard time adjusting to no rifles and only attacking adjacent units, this game feels more archaic than the sequel to be honest.
>>
>>2872137
Scratch that, there are rifles after all, and the game does appear to have more depth than 3, but damn do I miss machine guns and shotguns nao having just melee range.
>>
>>2871679
>>2871698
Do I have to grind in arena?
Or I can go to 1 mission to another by buying missiles and fast legs only?

Does this apply to FM2 and later games till 5 or they are streamlined enough for anyone to play?

Sorry but I really want to enjoy this series since I am a /m/an and I suck in SRPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre.

(Funny thing is FM2 takes place in my ancestral land)
>>
>>2872503

Missiles aren't that broken. For instance, I wouldn't give missiles to everyone. If they have a shit long stat and you'll find who those guys are as they level, you want to just give them some shoulder armor to help them guard attacks.

Missiles are great though in two ways:

-Targeting large enemies who only have a singular health bar and it isn't set up with sections.

-Guide. Guide is bullshit, it will help you one shot regular sized mechs.
>>
>>2872503
>Ogre
You what mate? Overleveling pass level 30 will break the game except in hell's gate/palace where enemies can go pass level 30, but grinding is boring. Otherwise give everyone a bow/crossbow , level everyone to same level, and the game is easy.
>>
Any begginer's tips for FM2?

Try not to blackhole kills on one or two units, spread experience and Honor points to all units and use them according to their natural fighting style, branching out like FM1 isn't going to do you any good.

Try to gauge whether you need an upgrade or not as money isn't that easy to get in the beginning and you may be screwed if you don't have enough money to change your setups when you need them.

Browse frequently and talk to NPCs as there's a lot of good stuff you can get from the internet, and I mean it, you can get real great wanzers and weapons.

Try to always destroy all the vehicles in every stage because they're EXP piƱatas.

Rifles aren't that hot until you get to the endgame and even then shotguns or machineguns are still better, Melee is really good if you take time to level it up, Missiles ain't all that great here but mortars are pretty good and do AoE damage, which might be just what you need sometimes.

Thomas is a neat old man and you should drink with him, he's also great at poker, Rocky is hella moe and Liza is the best FM female protagonist, Saori a cute, A CUTE!
>>
Replayed the first one through the DS version.
I'm pretty disappointed with it. As a kid I thought it was pretty messed up what they did to Karen but holy shit is this game light on story.

It's also sorely lacking in parts variety ironically. The only thing to change from the obvious optimum builds for short range users is going up to bulkier parts that provide less power for melee units. And I suppose you might use the body that offers more power if you want 2 missile launchers on Paul and Hans.
>>
It would be nice if the game actually told you there were character classes or what they do

Though I guess on the other side of that is the insanity of ASV2's character building
>>
>>2872556
>>2873601
Thanks everyone.

Now I can play FM1 and FM2 despite having no strategic and tactical thinking skills.
>>
>>2870134
3 route Emma was considerably worse and I think a lot of people played that one.
It actual baffles me how they hide basically a whole new game behind a single seemingly unimportant dialogue choice.
>>
>>2874562
I didn't play Alissa route just because of how insuferable she is, is her route really that much better? I had a hard time putting up with the little dialogue she had on Emma route, I can't imagine an entire game with her as MC.
>>
>>2874237
Actually, they toned down Royd's "dead man walking" act quite a lot in the DS translation. You have a glimpse of it when you fight against Alder in the arena (he says Royd has no regard for his own safety), but the rest of the game just lightly touches upon it. In the SNES version, you can feel Royd is ready to shoot everyone up (including his superior) the moment Driscoll talks about the B-device.
>>
>>2874842
>you can feel Royd is ready to shoot everyone up (including his superior) the moment Driscoll talks about the B-device.
I feel the ending is even more affected by how the DS changed Royd's line, the SNES version has him worn out in both body and soul and you can see how broken he is by how he reacts to everyone, and all the rest of the game only adds up to this.
Royd is basically a Guts who got his revenge but keeps on going because he realizes he has nothing in his life besides vengeance and rage, and it's not even that cliched when you play the other games and add up all the shi that happens during the timeline and how Royd is changed by that.
>>
>>2874562
I only played Alissa's route and it sucked, guess I didn't miss anything noteworthy.
>>
>>2869383
>Gun Hazard is the best.
>>
>>2871698
>Rain missiles on everyone.
Horrible advice.

Let me tell you how to actually git gud. Pick a Short specialist, Royd works well. Give him two of the machine gun with the highest number of attacks, damage doesn't matter. Spend maybe 15 minute in the arena giving him a slight level advantage in Short, at least until you get Duel. Congrats, you now have an invincible god king of wanzer piloting who will do so much damage that he will outpace your team for experience even through limited use. Use him as a crutch to soften up targets for your other Short specialist to get easy experience on, who will in turn also become OP as hell. Keep all non-short specialists around for cannon fodder.

This works because of how FM1 calculates skill bonus damage in a linear fashion, so when
you have, say, 6 attacks, that skill bonus gets applied 6 times, and that bonus gets very god damn large.

My first go around I tried relying on Long, and it carried me through the first half of the game, after which point enemies began to outpace my team and that file became garbage.

playing FM3 and am on the emma route, just got alisa back and killed jose, does this game ever get challenging? I'm just kinda breezing through it
>>
Did Front Mission 2 ever get 100% translated? I remember playing a partially translated one and it annoyed me that it would go back and forth between translated and not.
>>
>>2877839
Nope

>>2877893
Nope
>>
>>2877839
Front Mission 3 is likely the easiest in the series save for maybe 1 depending on how you build your team.

>>2877893
Not in game, no, but they did include a text file that translates all of the town dialogue that they couldn't insert into the game properly.
>>
>>2877839
>does this game ever get challenging?
>challenging
>FM3
ROF-UP lmao
>>
>>2878397
>>2877965
Pity. If it was fully translated, I'd give it another try.
>>
>>2874821
She's a little less bitchy in her own route. Her route's not any better because of her but more because of the different perspective on events and the new supporting character cast and how they don't piss away half the game on the DHZ civil war. The ending on her side is a bit weak, though.
>>
>>2878427
>a bit weak

But at least you get to fuck your sister!
