It wasn't that good anyway, and Exact were already dissolved by then. JF 1 and 2 are the only good ones unfortunately.

I wouldn't call the game underrated but the soundtrack definitely is. Soichi Terada is the god of jungle

This.

They also killed the voice acting with the PSP port, making the original the best version by far.

The fuck are you on about, the music was awful. All 20 second loops. I went back and played it recently after not having played it since the 90s, what a fucking mess of a game.

>mainline Final Fantasy game
>underrated

Hell even FFIXfags are fucking delusional in thinking their game is someway underrated when it has sold millions of copies, is generally well liked among the FF fanbase and is among the highest rated FFs everywhere and the same points do apply to you and FFVIII as well.

>>2866240
The antagonist is an ape, he does in fact escape
>>
>>2866242
I wanted to play as the ape. It's not "Ape Escape", it's "Ape Catcher", which isn't nearly as fun.
>>
>>2866232
Sorry about your shit taste I guess?
>>
>>2866220

yet you see people always talking about Crash and Spyro instead of Ape Escape and Jumping Flash.

Ape Escape I could sort of understand because it came out late into the PS1's life, but it's bullshit how little recognition the JF series get.

I'm guessing you played this game when you were a kid and are too emotionally attached to realize it's a flaming piece of garbage
>>
>>2866228
I had a friend who was obsessed with that game. I thought it was pretty cool. Didn't get much into it, to be honest, because I'm just not smart enough to fight SRPG battles strategically rather than just overpowering everything with overleveled units.

Or simply because people like things you don't like anon? Anyways, I've played the game myself recently and while it's not exactly perfect, it still does have its merits. I'm also glad it at least made something out of the DualShock's capabilities.

Ape Escape > Super Mario 64
>>
>>2866549

He is the smart guy who thinks he's the only one who knows about the ultra secret and rare PSX DVD player or someshit like that and like to lecture we, the peasants, about how is incorrect to call the Playstation as PSX because it is actually the development name and it doesn't matter about how we called it since ever PSX, it is wrong. Give him a (You), he'll be happy. Did you know Super Mario USA is actually a sprite change over a japanese game, Donkey Kong Pancake?

NO DON'T
>>
>>2866632
Actually, Sean Miyamoto's masterwork, Super Mario Brothers 2, was a US-only game originally released in China as Donkey Kong Picnic, but the Chinese were not impressed by it so it was later rebranded as Super Mario USA to get their attention. Since they love the west, it worked!
>>

I played it last year and only because I'm a fan of Soichi Terada. Your post is literally "stop liking what I don't like".

FUCK YES APE ESCAPE GRIND UP THE FUCKING DISC AND INJECT IT INTO MY VEINS

GOD

YES

FUCK

I love Ape Escape.

Still one of my favorite games. Played it again a couple of years back. I don't know what it is, but it has soul. Soichi Terada's music just fits so well with all those ruins, caverns and machines and what have you. Gameplay is an interesting twist on standard platformers and the levels are non-linear. Nice use of color and charming scenery. Makes me want to play it again.

Makes me want to pay homage to it in some way. It's fantastic.

You say that as if Crash or Spyro were actually good. JF is better. It just didn't have enough marketing and hype.

And it was an inferior 3D platformer too, you can't forget that.

>m-muh collectathons

>>2867170
There's a reason why Crash and Spyro are remembered and JF is not and it's not because of poor marketing and hype.

>>2867364

How is it an inferior platformer? It has unique and very tight controls as opposed to the wonky controls of western garbage Crash and Spyro, not to mention Crash and Spyro aren't original or unique in the slightest.

>>2867373
It was because of poor marketing and hype.
>>
>>2867364
>inferior platformer
Sure thing. Tough I would still take a series of "inferior" platformers over two with overly wonky executions. Btw Crash isn't a collecthathon.

>>2867586
>western trash
Sup weeb. Also just because something is unique (though I thought the only really "unique" aspect of the JF games was the first person view) doesn't always mean that it'll be good.
>>
>>2869682
>though I thought the only really "unique" aspect of the JF games was the first person view

The first person view and the fact that the controls work perfectly with the first person perspective and platforming elements.

On normal FPS games, jumping sucks because the camera is mostly fixed forward, and just generally doesn't feel satisfying to jump (I never liked bunnyhopping on Source games either, feels awkward and broken). But that's understandable because like 99,99% of first person games are shooters.

Jumping Flash has a unique jumping mechanic where the camera aims down so you can calculate exactly where you want to land, the controls also let you do jumps of varying heights and you can perform a super high double jump. It's pretty damn well executed.
So you're right, it being unique doesn't automatically means it's good. But JF is both unique and good.
>>
>>2869885
>On normal FPS games, jumping sucks because the camera is mostly fixed forward

You can look down while jumping in just about every FPS. Even Turok.
>>
>>2869890
if you have played JF, you know what I mean. It's completely different.
but again, it's understandable because FPSs aren't about platforming, even though you can jump in some.
Jumping Flash lets you fire lasers, but it isn't about shooting really. The main thing about JF is how great jumping feels. Jumping in Turok or any other FPS isn't nearly as satisfying, and that's OK because those games aren't mainly platformers.
>>
>>2869682
>>2867364
I just realized you were defending Crash and Spyro with your quote. That said you're still wrong for saying JF is "inferior".

I disagree with the other anon for saying Crash and Spyro controls like shit in comparison; I think all three series have pretty decent controls. He's still free to stand by his own opinion though.

>>2869885
>The first person view and the fact that the controls work perfectly with the first person perspective and platforming elements.
Eh it's a bit so-so for me at a few parts; but when it works, it really works.
