Aside from the obvious, (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Megaman) what's good on the NES?

I just got an Everdrive 64, and am pleasantly surprised to see it can emulate the NES. I was a PS1 kiddie, so I have no experience with 8 bit gaming.

Thanks

My favorite NES game is probably Monster Party out of sheer absurdity. If including Famicom stuff tho then my favorite is Gimmick, which is definitely the better game.

Castlevania 3

This may be unpopular opinion, but:

Adventure Island series
Circus Charlie
Pooyan
Battle City
Twin Bee
Star Force
Field Combat
Star Soldier
Mappy
Antartic Adventure
Ice Climber
Mitsume ga tooru
Tiny Toon Adventures
TMNT III: manhattan project
Flintstones: rescue of dino and hoppy

just a few of my childhood favorites, some of them are very arcade-y and simple, but they're great fun and have that pure 8 bit feel.
>>
>>2859386
It's a good game, it's just rough around the edges. Playing it will give you an appreciation of 2 through 6.
>>
>>2859216
Only play those games if you want to get so pissed off that you want to throw the controller across the room.
>>
>>2859185
OP, it would help if you were a bit more specific in what you were looking for. Did you want platformers? If so, Power Blade 1 and 2, Vice:Project Doom, Darkwing Duck, DuckTales 1 and 2, Batman, Gargoyles Quest 2, Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Shatterhand, Little Nemo, Metal Storm, Kirby's Adventure and Tiny Toons Adventures are all good. If you were looking for Arcade type action, there's always the Bomberman series, Gauntlet series, Marble Madness, Cobra Triangle, Paperboy series, R.C. Pro Am series, Skate or Die, or arcade ports like Joust, Rampage, or Rampart. If you want RPG's and want something besides FF or DQ/DW, there's Might and Magic, Crystalis, Wizardry, Ultima 4, and the graphical "macadventures" like The Uninvited, Shadowgate, and Deja Vu.

What is it you were looking for?
>>
>>2859573
Well I said I was a PS1 kiddie, my favorite types of games are 3D platformers and racers. I know I'm not going to find much for those on NES (maybe racers) I'll check out your list though.
>>
>>2859603
>OP has never played a pre 5th gen game

You don't belong here.
>>
>>2859621
Does Pokemon count?

Side note, I've heard there's a Gameboy emulator for ED64 also, but I can't find it. Playing Pokemon on my N64 would be maximum comfy.
>>
>>2859603

Into the fires, to sizzle and pop.
>>
>>2859621
>>2859631
Don't you have a Dreamcast thread to shit on?
>>
>>2859603
Racers eh? OK, on the NES you will want to check out Rad Racer, the R.C. Pro Am series, Mach Rider, and maybe Cobra Triangle. Most of what you'll find on the NES is platformers and general action/arcade(Beat-em-up, SHMUP) type games.
>>
All the tmnt games
>>
>>2859185

Solstice
Startropics
Maniac Mansion
The Guardian Legend
Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior 1-3, maybe Destiny of an Emperor if you're into that sort of thing
Double Dragon 2 (first one is okay but rough, third one is kinda crappy)
Street Fighter 2010
River City Ransom if you have a friend to play it with (or maybe even if you don't)
Contra
Super C
Adventures of Lolo 1-3
Genghis Khan is kinda cool
Baseball Simulator 1.000
Godzilla is fun in a goofy way
Gradius 2 is good (it's a Famicom game but you don't need to read Japanese or anything for a Gradius game); also Life Force is the same sort of thing as that
Silver Surfer purely for the music
Snake Rattle 'n' Roll
>>
>>2862163

I wasn't thinking much about genre here, but if you play the first few minutes of nearly any NES game then you'll pretty quickly see what type of game you're playing.
>>
>>2862163
>Genghis Khan is kinda cool

until now, I thought I was the only one on /vr/ who talked about this. it's my favorite koei strategy game, lots of depth and challenge. everyone brings up nobunaga's ambition but I don't know how it compares.

>Silver Surfer purely for the music
get the ips patch for automatic fire and use savestates, and suddenly it's a decent game.
>>
>I just got an Everdrive 64, and am pleasantly surprised to see it can emulate the NES

WAIT WHAT

I have an E64 and I didn't know this. Is there anything I need besides NES roms for this to work? Does it work with every NES game?

Fuck, this is awesome news.
>>
>>2862180
>ips patch for automatic fire
What is a turbo button?
>>
>>2862579

there's that too, assuming you have it set up.
>>

Shadowgate.
Arkista's Ring.
Werewolf
Archon
Battlekid 1 and 2

>>
Cobra Triangle
Golgo 13(i actually think this game is awesome)
Solar FUCKING Jetman, this game has some fantastic graphics imo.
Gun.Smoke
And then the usual like contra and shit everyone else has recommended.
>>
>>2863101
gun smoke absolutely requires a turbo controller
>>
>>2863101
Oh man, Solar Jetman, I actually had that game, One of the best NES games.
>>
>>2859185
Dragon Quest IV
Contra
Crystalis
The Guardian Legend
Punch Out
U-four-ia (play the jap version translated)
Akumajou Densetsu
Little Samson
Radia Senki
Shatterhand
>>2859343
Jesus man, Ghosts n Goblins on the NES is absolutely AWFUL. Capcom handed the port off to some rubbish studio. Even the C64 version is infinitely superior.

>>
I enjoyed Kid Icarus back in the day.
>>
>>2862180

I don't know either, I never got into any of those games except Genghis Khan and I think Genghis Khan 2

they can get shallow if you really work hard at them I think? like, you find some fairly simple strategy that works pretty efficiently, and then just use it consistently... but that's standard for pretty much all single-player modes in war games

I had fun with it anyway, still remember the music

I remember Tiny Toons being a real bitch in a few levels if you weren't ready for them. The 2nd and 3rd TMNT games were fantastic.

>Two people mentioning Kabuki Quantum Fighter
>I'm no longer the only kid who had the weirdest damn game on the planet
>>
>>2865196

there are consistent strategies, but in genghis khan you can also change the difficulty level from easy to very hard.

it's just that nobunaga's ambition is the one that always gets brought up, so I was wondering how they compare.

I always liked the soundtrack to genghis khan, in fact I put it on youtube.

Cool.

Nobody likes you either right? It's why you go on the internet and shit on people?

You should probably just kill yourself you fucking loser. Go on, shitpost all day and all night, desperately trying to get attention because in reality nobody gives the slightest shit about you. And then one day you'll finally just give up, and kill yourself.

And nobody will care. And we'll just keep talking about videogames.

this

Castlevania 3 is the best videogame ever made
>>

Get the Famicom version, along with the translation, title patch/localization patch.

Translation goes first, then the title/localization patch. The second patch also fixes some bugs with the translation.
>>
Is ED64 an emulator or not?

I can't seem to emulate N64 games well and the last thing I want to do is pay money to emulate games badly on the original hardware.
>>
>>2865785
looks like its either a 0/10 or a 10/10
>>
>>2866208
not at all, it's a flashcart, it's like an sd card that loads the game straight into the console memory
>>
>>2866265
Why aren't the NES Flintstones games on that list?
