The FF7 HD PC Port is on sale today on PS4 starting today. It looks real crisp and sharp but I have a legit complaint.

WHY IS THERE NO PHYSICAL COPY
>>
so when ps5 comes out you can buy ff7 for the 60th time
>>
>>2836436

This. They literally expect to be able to sell you the same fucking thing until the end of time the entitled little kikes.
>>
>>2836436
this, and also
>physical copy of an 18 year old game
>>
>>2836441

How is that entitled?
>>
>>2836497

Because they shouldn't keep getting compensation for the same good or service in perpetuity. If I change your oil or sell you a flowerpot, I shouldn't be able to come back and charge you again for either of those every few years.
>>
>>2836435
The PS4 port is 4GB big. PSX is 3x 700mb= 2,1GB. How big is the PC HD version?

>tfw LOSSLESS CUTSCENES and soundtrack on PS4??
>>
>>2836545
It's the music. FF7 used MIDI and the PSX's sound chip for every single one of its songs. The new releases streams the original music as actual audio files so you're not dealing with the shitty General MIDI Roland soundset the PC version had originally.
>>
>>2836503
as long as faggots buy it there's no place for ethics.
>>
>>2836550
The late 90s PC FF games came with their own soundfount. If you had a reasonably modern SoundBlaster at the time (which were pretty much bog standard) it sounded fine.
>>
>>2836561

Spoken like a true Yankee pirate.
>>
>>2836435
Not going to lie, that looks like shit.
>>
Did I hear wrong about a new translation?

>>2836574
Congratulations on seeing FFVII for the first time.
>>
>>2836590
>Did I hear wrong about a new translation?

You did. It's the same translation as the 90s PC release i.e. the exact same as the original with a handful (but not even close to all) of the typos fixed.
>>
>>2836590

Depends. You talkin' fan or official?
>>
>>2836503
If people buy it then square enix should be compensated for it. You sound like a faggy reddit socialist.

>>
looks okay
>>
>>2836503
As much as I hate SE for doing this, nobody is being forced to buy the game, so there's no moral issue here.
>>
>>2836631

If you think they aren't preparing a huge clampdown on piracy in the next few years, you're just fucking naive. There is no "nice" way to put it.
>>
>>2836593
So this is a more accurate script than the original? I've held off on another playthrough out of a concern for a definitive experience. This seems to be the PC version without all the issues, but I still have my old discs and emulation.
>>
>>2836636
So is it true that Valve is helping to fund a piracy crackdown? Seems like a scummy, monopoly thing to do.
>>
>>2836435
BECAUSE THEN IT WOULD COST $40
>>
>>2836564
Spoken like an aussie kangaroo jockey.
>>
>>2836435
So Playstation can show you how much the remake sucks at the same time.
>>
>>2836641
no, it's the same thing
>>
>>2836641
Nope, same thing with minor text fixes. Because people would lose their shit on here if it was a retranslation.

Unsurprisingly /vr/ also hates the fan retranslation, but it's actually not that good for weird and contradictory decisions by the "localizer."
>>
>>2836727
>Because people would lose their shit on here if it was a retranslation.

I dunno what you're talking about, FF7 is one of my favorite games, but the translation is notoriously bad and I've never heard anyone pine over the script in nostalgia. For years all I've wanted was FF7 with a better English script. How someone fucked up that new retranslation is beyond amazing, either way. I just want someone to do it a one-over like how FF5 was on the GBA after the mess that was the PSX original. A shame it'll never happen now.
>>
>>2836550
Did Square fix the bad sound quality from the Steam version?
>>
>>2836727

>Unsurprisingly /vr/ also hates the fan retranslation, but it's actually not that good for weird and contradictory decisions by the "localizer."

Elaborate. I wondered about this.
>>
>>2836769
/vr/ had a row with DPLB (who funnily enough, barely even knows how to work 4chan) in a thread. It might be floating around in an archive somewhere, most likely it is. Some of it was over a now ditched feature of a character replacing Cait Sith, but the rest was more legit.

To tl;dr it there's some instances that are localized more than others for some reason, for a short small example Moogle/Mog is literal in it while spell names are the standard english localization of -ra -ga -ja.
>>
>>2836776
*DLPB

Whatever his name is.
>>
>>2836436
I originally bought the re-elease from Square-Enix's own site and i ran out SecuROM activations, so i had to rebuy the game from Steam :(
>>
>>2836779
>trading one DRM for another
Steam's marginally better but at that point I'd just emulate.
>>
>>2836435
Because it's one of those shitty "HD" ports where nothing is truly in HD because it's using all of the original textures and whatnot. Why the fuck would you want a boxed copy?
>>
>>2836784

Pretty much and the game still requires Square-Enix account and after this, i'm done with the horrible Final Fantasy PC ports.

The original FF7PC was based on the beta version and that's why it had more glitches and problems.
>>
>>2836656
That's fine with me, I'd pay extra for that over fucking digital purchases which you don't legally own.
>>
>>2836435
I've never played FF7 before. I was heavily considering buying this, but I've just been tempted to get back into owning a CRT. Currently hunting down a good one and some RGB cables for a PS1. I'm going full retro for this shit.
>>
>>2836914

you can use crt filter in retroarch for intended look.

Sorry dude, I just looked at the thread and you all come off like nostalgia-powered howling rage monkeys flinging your shit at him while mercilessly screeching to one another at the top of your goddamned lungs. He came out looking like the calm professional there.

>>2836905

According to virtually every prominent voice in Big Media you only own the disc itself even if you do buy a hardcopy; their stance is that you are merely "renting" the actual contents under whatever implied license they imagine you agreed to at the time of purchase.

You think I'm bullshitting you, but distressingly they are lobbying for the laws to reflect this stance in actuality more and more all the time.
>>
>>2836435

also, would something like this have been possible for someone playing FF7 on hardware at the time?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1uRTNj44Zw

I'm a console fag, so Midis have always just been those files I found on vgmusic before OSTs being uploaded online and on youtube was more common. This is all very interesting to me.
>>
>>2836436
This.
And the fact it already fucking exist.
>>
>>2836503
>If I change your oil or sell you a flowerpot, I shouldn't be able to come back and charge you again for either of those every few years.

Your argument holds no water. Eventually, I'm going to NEED another oil change. Nobody NEEDS more than one copy of the game. And if I want a new flower pot, then I expect to pay for it.

If you want a HD version of Overrated: The Game, then you pay them for the work they did to upgrade it for you. Or you play the version you own and quit whining like a little fucking child.
>>
>>2837342
>If you want a HD version of Overrated: The Game, then you pay them for the work they did to upgrade it for you. Or you play the version you own and quit whining like a little fucking child.

This, finally someone with some common sense.
>>
>>2836975
/vr/ tends to do that as a whole.
>>
>>2836503
Here's the problem with that- they're not getting paid for the same goods and services. They're being paid $10 (currently, because of the sale) for a ported version with bug fixes. There were man hours that went into this port, there was paying Sony for quality testing the release, there is paying for the porting itself. These re-releases don't just shit themselves out they cost these companies money to produce.

FF7 sells for $25-$30 on average, $20 if you get lucky. Probably $45 if you go into a retro game store and get gouged. They're selling this for under the average even without the sale price.

Why are you pieces of shit so entitled? The company needs compensation for porting it you mouth breather. Maybe there are people with PS4s who haven't played FF7 yet (crazy to think there are kids out there who didn't grow up with a PS1 because they weren't born yet). This is /still/ cheaper than a copy on the PS1, even with all of the time and money square had to put into bringing it on the new console.
>>
"HD" and we still can't get more than 10fps in battles. What the fuck?

Well, it's better than playing the pixelated as fuck 480i PSN version at least.
>>
>>2837464
The animations get funky and glitchy if you run the game at 60fps.

That's right, it was too much effort to redo animations from a late-90s videogame

Bro.

FF7 looks like shit.

It looked like shit even in its hayday.

The only thing that looked really good were the handful of pre-rendered cutscenes.

Congratulations on spending your hard earned money on getting Cloud's block hands and body in its purest form of rough early 3D geometry.
>>
>>2837509
Do you expect his hair to naturally to that?
It's got to take quite a bit of product to accomplish that

>>
>>2837482

Granted the move to 60fps alone screws the speed and animations up, but there was a fan project a few years ago that edited animations to duplicate frames or something that looked pretty smooth before the project died on its ass like they usually do. If fucking FF7 fans of all people can do it with zero resources, how is it with everything Square had to make this port happen they couldn't make it happen? It's pure laziness.

Pic related.
It's an original render from final fantasy 9 (notice how much detail was lost when it was ported).
>>
>>2837676

Is this a case of the assets being lost in the merger or of Square themselves actually being so boneheaded that they deleted them during development? Whatever the case it was dumb as hell in the long-term, you can upscale polygons all you want but there's no saving those backgrounds and FMVs.

The FF7 remake being a multipart release makes sense to anyone with even a slight concept of risk management. The original FF7 is still one of the most expensive games to develop of all time. You don't flip a switch to turn those chunky polygons and prerendered backgrounds into something photorealistic. I'm willing to bet that the remake's budget alone is going to cost well over 150 million just to get such a massive fucking scale project like this out at all.

Is it retroactive?

Because that "law" that destroyed property rights of the people came in 2000 with the DMCA.

Anything before that should be legally whole and clear yours because it's not legal to retroactively apply a law hence why older cars aren't required to have airbags and 3-point seatbelts.

Easy answer, they will not push a physical copy of that game with a multi-release remake coming up soon. They put way to much money into the remake to try to spice up a simple port of the game.

>>
The PS4 port isn't perfect, really. It has the bugbears the PC version has (nitpicky stuff like the battle shadows not being shaded, or the 3D models being way too damn clean which makes them stick out like a sore thumb on pre-rendered backgrounds) ontop of new problems like the sound-mixing. Cutscenes that should fade out the music or have audible sounds in the CGI scenes just don't sound right, like the sounds are way too quiet and the fades are really slow. Early on when Jessie closed the train door after Cloud hops in, the looping outside train sound didn't stop for the rest of the ride until the FMV kicked in. It's little problems like that that irk me.

On the positive side, the game's backgrounds aren't one giant pixelated mess. They actually took the time to filter every single background a little so that the game isn't rendering ancient pre-renders in 1080p on your TV or monitor or whatever. Although since, again, the 3D models are a bit too clean for their own good, the foreground edges look a little funky if a model is peeking from behind one, and I swear the background animations in certain places are a little wonky and buggy like the elevators in the Mako Reactors. World map and battle scene textures also got filters applied, as did FX for attacks, magic, etc. I think the UI and menus are even cleaner than the PC release too but I don't remember too well. The PC version's altered and tweaked translation also remains in place, so don't expect the dialogue to be 1-to-1 to the original.

The only really noticeable features for the PS4 version is that they basically stuck in trainer cheats and analogue support. (sorta, it's basically d-pad directions on analogue) L3 speeds the game up by 3x speed, which makes travel and battles go by a lot faster. R3 auto-fills your HP, MP, and Limit for the party in a battle, but doesn't revive them. L3 + R3 disables encounters.

What a fucking mess.

Never thought I'd see the day when they sell you a game and give you the option of not playing it.

What a fucking hypocrite. I bet you're the kind of guy who has to cheat on the Yellow Devil or use a million continues on every game he plays.
>>
>>2848147
You realize the re-port in 2012 of the PC version had a trainer included that let people not only do this but also max out all their levels and get 99 of every single item, right? If anything this is extremely tame compared to what they could've done and if you skip all encounters and just rush boss fights, not even R3 will save you if you get nuked or one-shot. It's more like convenience rather than anything, and they know some people would rather focus on the story than the gameplay, as much as it may burn your ass to think of such a thing.
>>
>>2848154
>I bet you're the kind of guy who has to cheat on the Yellow Devil or use a million continues on every game he plays.
I never, ever cheated to play through any videogame I played in 27 years of my life, the only time I did cheat was in GTA and it completely ruined the game for me, not to mention if you need to cheat in a RPG, and especially in the case of a FF, you should really reconsider a lot of what you did with your life.
I play videogame for the game part, not fancy cutscenes or terrible writing.
