The designs are certainly fantastic and I do believe USUM will have some great content to offer, but I'm also not sure that they'll be able to redeem the games if they don't fix the things that went badly ontop of adding what's good and new.

Despite all the shitposting about the starters, Gen VII's designs have been consistently top tier. People like the UBs in particular for being weird and clever designs that work well in 3D (especially in their animations and biology), so of course more of them = more sales.

GameFreak is so sporadic about everything their designs being sound/good doesn't ultimately bode well for anything because they've shown time and time again that they cant commit to a certain degree of quality.

The only general assumption one can make based off of GF's history is that, per generation, the games of said generation are objectively superior then the ones before them. Objectively.
