The episode already had a whopping eight main characters, and we barely saw much of Ash's old Pokemon either.

Aside from flashbacks, the only old Pokemon of his that appeared in the episode were Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Muk, Tauros, Totodile, and Corphish.
