The Beach Houses are probably spots to get Scuba Gear, and the Beaches themselves are probably entrences to Dive Sections, which explains why some of them dont have surfing points

It makes sense since so many of Alolas water types in the dex are based off Deepsea/Seafloor mons like Golisopos, Toxapex, Lanturn, etc.

I feel like Island Scan is gonna get a huge expansion for this purpose, I can see it working more like the DexNav to really stuff in more variety to the pokemon available in each area, without being overbearing as regular wild encounters

As for the starters, we have characters from each region who can give them to us since they'll probably add a Johto rep

Yay, diving! Hopefully this opens up much neede water routes in Hawaii-inspired region. The lack of water routes is alarming. I would have complained but I learned that regions like Hoenn and Alola are a must to have water routes.

This was honestly one of the things I wanted fixed the most
When the region was announced to be based off Hawaii, I was mad hype because I love ocean settings and tropical themes and such, so I was pretty bummed when the map showed the water areas themselves were practically nothing, so it didnt really FEEL like what I wanted

Thankfully, that seems to be alleviated now with Dive being implied, but also with little touches, like the Surfers hanging out the beaches or the camera being less top down to get better views, which really go a long way

For what purpose? We already have Lapras and Sharpedo for that.

Notice how these beach areas on the Alola map don't have rock boundaries like the Paddle/Jet areas.
Also the water in OP's pic almost instantly turns a darker shade of blue like previous Dive areas.

I hope this allows for more interesting Water-type distribution.
I'd love to have early access to Krabby.
Also Horsea, Skrelp and Clauncher would be welcome.

And they really nailed it with the visuals in ORAS. In original Emerald I was pretty eh about Diving, but in ORAS, the moment I had my first encounter, and saw the battle opening with the cool underwater lighting, and the Pokéball throwing out slowly, suddenly I was all "wtf I love Diving now"

If they bring it back in USM, especially considering the battle visuals have gotten even better, I'm gonna fucking cream.

Mantine's diving is very interesting. Combined with Mienfoo in the trailer for the UBs and Necrozma, we're likely getting either a different or expanded dex. Which is awesome. Especially Mienfoo, because we always need more Gen 5 representation in these games.
