Honestly, if by the end of Wednesday there's no USUM in the Nintendo Direct I honestly think these games will come as close as Pokemon gets to flopping - they will sell comparatively badly.

I've pre-ordered as well, which is fine - I'm a religious Pokemon fanboy and I will pre-order every Pokemon game. That's my problem.

But if we look at the facts, I can't really imagine what GF can realistically pull out of the bag to gather enough hype in a short period of time: It's probably not going to be any original new Pokemon (Or even Alola forms) because we would've seen hints in the merchandise news channels like with every new gen.

The main thing USUM has riding for it is the fact that there's a new story, which is fine because like BW2 these games are clearly for slightly more dedicated fans who are interested enough. However, we really haven't even been given any hints on the story to get excited about.

I hate to say it and I almost can't quite believe it because I don't think GF would fuck up THIS bad, but it is increasingly looking like what we've seen so far is it. We'll get the new alternate story with Nekrozma and the Ultra Beasts...but I think feature-wise this may be basically pretty much the same game.

Hopefully it'll be good though and will improve S/M like BW2 did for B/W, otherwise it'll be a very expensive Litten mini-figure.

I'm starting to have my doubts that a lot of kids who bought S/M even know these games exist. I have a couple of friends who play Pokemon fairly casually (But they aren't complete casuals) and they had no idea USUM even existed.

At first I couldn't believe it, but the more I think about it the more I realize these games really haven't been heavily advertised at all. There's no TV commercials like S/M had, gaming media hasn't really been able to hype it up because not enough information has been announced. I nearly missed a couple of teaser videos myself because I wasn't checking Serebii enough and the thumbnails of the teaser videos looked so similar I just assumed I'd already watched them.

One of my friends said he'd seen some signs in the local game store, but they looked so similar to S/M he didn't check them properly. I checked it out myself and I could completely see what he was talking about. Because the 3DS is nearing the end of its life, S/M are still promoted pretty heavily in game stores and if you're not specifically looking for it, the USUM promotional material just blends right in.
