Reminder that Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness are far better games than the mainline series.
>>
>>33523206

They aren't, for multiple reasons

- Limited selection of Pokemon
- Animations take way too long, especially with every battle being a double battle
- Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon models are ripped straight from the Stadium games, which makes them look really shitty in comparison to the Gen 3 Pokemon
- (Colosseum) purification takes too long
>>
Both of those games are terrible
>>
>>33523206
Gale of Darkness was okay. Colosseum was the worst 3D Pokemon game ever.
>>
It takes way too long to unlock purification in Colosseum. Espeon is the only Pokemon worth a shit for like half the game. The limited selection of Pokemon isn't horrible on its own, but when every non-Espeon Pokemon is either Umbreon or constantly wasting turns being edgy, it's really too much. It's a great Pokemon game regardless, but it could've been much better.
>>
They have serious balance issues. In Gale of Darkness, you're given a Teddiursa at the beginning. The entire next stretch of the game only gives you two more shadow Pokemon, and they're fucking Pocchyena and Ledyba. You'll usually end up going through all of Cipher lab with only your starter, the Teddiursa, and a bunch of shadow Pokemon you caught in the lab that are too low to do shit and can't level up until de-shadow them. By the time you finish Cipher Lab and have enough Pokemon to get the purification chamber going, your starter is so overleveled that it either tears through the rest of the game or will never see battle as anything but a crutch in a bad situation.
>>
>>33523270
But some of those things make it better as they introduce difficulty.
>limited selection of Pokemon
You best have a good way to use them then since every battle is a double battle
>(Colosseum) purification takes too long
That's so you don't instantly unlock a Pokemon to use right when you get it
>>
It's pretty hard to seriously defend Colliseum as a good game. I never played Gal of Darkness but these games have a lot of shortcomings that stop it from coming anywhere near the mailing games in terms of playablility.
>>
>>33524445
This
Colosseum and Gale were both paced perfectly by comparison to their main series counterparts. Also, the game starts you with a pretty good set-up
>Umbreon and Espeon as starters
Ummmm more like this please?
>>
Both flopped lol
>>
>>33524341
How fucking retarded are you?

>The entire next stretch of the game only gives you two more shadow Pokemon
You mean Gateon Port to Agate Village and then to the Shadow Pokemon Lab? It's not a big portion of the fucking game. There's hardly any fucking battling in the early game before you get to the Shadow Pokemon Lab, so why the fuck should you get that many Pokemon at that point, you stupid fuck?
> a bunch of shadow Pokemon you caught in the lab that are too low to do shit and can't level up until de-shadow them
Most of the Pokemon are lv. 14-17 and Lovrina's highest lv'd pokemon is a lv 20 Luvdisc. How shit are you to not be able to use the Pokemon that the colored cipher peons have? Those are all lv 17 Pokemon, and you have the relic stone available to you before you even get to the Shadow Pokemon Lab in case your able to purify any of the pokemon you've caught. That's the entire fucking reason you go to Agate before the Lab anyways, you fucking idiot.
>your starter is so overleveled that it either tears through the rest of the game or will never see battle as anything but a crutch in a bad situation
So it's the game's fault you're too shit to use the other Pokemon? Fuck off with this shit. Gale of Darkness isn't even that good, but you're bitching about shit that is mostly your own fucking fault. God damn, fucking kill yourself.
>>
>>33523772
This.

Also, Stadium series are better than any of those.
>>
>>33524445
>That's so you don't instantly unlock a Pokemon to use right when you get it
Underage cucks here are used to getting their hand's held in the new games, so this is offputting to them.

I like both games a lot, but they both have glaring flaws which is a bit unfortunate.

Colosseum has really shitty variety of Pokemon you can catch and those that you do catch often have atrocious movesets. On top of that, shadow rush's recoil is bullshit, especially with the low capture rates of many of the Pokemon in the game. On top of that, since the difficulty of purification is directly correlated with level, lategame Pokemon have virtually no chance of being included in your team, or if they do get included, it'll only be one and you'll almost certainly have to grind it to get it purified. The level curve is really wonky right at the end, with the final gauntlet of trainers having Pokemon that start in the high 40s, then the final boss having Pokemon Pokemon above 60.

Gale of Darkness suffers from the fact that over half the snaggable Pokemon are found in the last area which can get rather tedious since it's just basically one long trainer gauntlet with little exploration. It also is weirdly easy to capture most of the Pokemon that the final boss has, despite their extremely low catch rates and the fact that you get shadow Lugia right before basically trivializes the boss fight since his Pokemon will shadow half themselves into snag range while not being able to finish off Lugia since every single one of their moves is a shadow move. The Pokespot Pokemon having their regular level up moves, while shadow Pokemon often having tm and egg moves is a little annoying too. This is especially noticeable with things like Gligar, Hoppip, Trapinch, and Sandshrew which have awful level up movepools, but at least there's a legitimate plot-related reason why that's the case, so I'm more willing to forgive it.

Both games suffer from atrocious AI though except for in the final areas where it almost always seems to cheat, like knowing what you're going to switch out into and hitting that with a super effective move.
>>
>basically no exploration
>outside of a few early exceptions you don't get any useful pokemon until 70% through the game
>hell on earth to get shinies in
>>
>>33525093
Oh please
>Golem used Protect
>Metang used Earthquake
>Golem protected itself

Sometimes the ai fucks up, other times it does good
>>
>>33525093
>KO own pokemon so it cant be snagged

Dakim's smarter than you think, he knows you'll reset if he does that, and if you reset, he wins.

Why didn't they make more games like Colosseum and XD? They are very fondly remembered even though they are borderline unfinished.
>>
>>33524445
>But some of those things make it better as they introduce difficulty
Sure, and limited fire types in DP is good, right?
>>
>>33529712

A good chunk of Genius Sonority was absorbed into Game Freak, including James Turner

That's why they only make shovelware now
>>
>>33526899
>the fact that you get shadow Lugia right before basically trivializes the boss fight since his Pokemon will shadow half themselves into snag range while not being able to finish off Lugia since every single one of their moves is a shadow move.
you should be assembling a full team of 6 shadow pokemon before the final boss fight anyways since it's a given they only have shadow moves. You can use the colognes to give your pokemon actual moves, and the last 10 or so shadow pokemon are near that level anyways.
>"Both games suffer from atrocious AI though except for in the final areas where it almost always seems to cheat, like knowing what you're going to switch out into and hitting that with a super effective move."
>AI gets better as you progress through the game
>it's not bad at the end
>"almost always seems to cheat
lol
>>
>>33529716
It's not like there isn't Fire types in general. If someone wants a Fire type badly anyways, there's actually something called a starter Pokemon in Pokemon games, and traditionally they've always been Grass, Water and Fire.
>>
I think Switch is the perfect time to make a new colosseum. They could even reuse models from Battle Revolution for gens 1-4 and put better textures on them.

Tie in Ultra Beasts or the Tapus into the story and you're golden. Based on the real-world inspirations, Orre wouldn't be too far from Alola, so I think you could put the tapus in there.

Shit, they could even do a thing with Reshiram and Zekrom since Dialga and Palkia will be busy in DP remakes
>>
>>33529823
>pick chimchar if you want one of the best offensive types in the game
>in a game where Bronzor/Bronzong can have fire as it's only weakness and you run into them all the time
okay
>>
>>33529848
Sounds like a good time then. People only complain about it because the fire types aren't their pick, but if you care about the type so much, you wouldn't really give a fuck.
>>
>>33523270
I actually rarely feel limited when I play Gale of Darkness, though that point is something I absolutely feel whenever I try to replay Colosseum.
>>
>>33526899
>Colosseum has really shitty variety of Pokemon you can catch and those that you do catch often have atrocious movesets. On top of that, shadow rush's recoil is bullshit, especially with the low capture rates of many of the Pokemon in the game.

>Not using the masterball glitch on colosseum
>>
>>33523270
>- Limited selection of Pokemon
I've never found this to be an issue if it's a tighter experience but I see where you're coming from. Your other points are 100% correct and ruin the game.
>>
>>33526342
He's right though
>>
>>33524445
>That's so you don't instantly unlock a Pokemon to use right when you get it
You mean like in that other game? What was its name? Pokemon Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold, Soul Silver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, X, Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon?
