I don't really watch the anime much, but when I do it's in Japanese, but only because I know the language. Watching both versions, I can say that the English version of the anime does do weird things. I think game-themed music gets removed and replaced in favor of more stock-sounding themes, for one thing.
At the same time, do people really watch things outside of languages they know? I can't stand watching Korean shows, since you can't just have them as background noise every now and then like you can with a language you know, so you have to be 100% engrossed in it.
