It became frogadier, with braixen in second. Quilladin dropped to last, there were shitloads of memes. Not laughing with type memes like Alolan exeggutor, laughing at memes. Very few chespin fans remained.
When the final evos were leaked, everything pretty much stayed the same; gren was the most popular, with a sizable gap between it and delphox, and then chesnaught in last. Ash ninja and the anime just solidified the positions even more.

Actually when I think about it some of my favourite Pokémon are Snorlax, Electrode, Darmanitan, Cryogonal and Donphan so maybe I just like round Pokémon

You weren't actually here, were you? Froakie and Chespin were pretty even at the start with Fennekin last. Then the second stages leaked and Frogadier jumped into the league with Braixen gaining the furry crowd and Quilladin pissing off a lot of people. Then the final stages leaked, Chesnaught won back some fans, furries still prefered Braixen to Delphox and Greninja pissed off some people with its tongue scarf.

At the end it was Greninja > Chesnaught > Delphox. Also everyone hated Ash-Greninja and laughed when it jobbed against Burasto Barn.

Almost everyone I talked to liked fennekin more than the other two until braixen was revealed, and barely anybody liked froakie. I'm referring to the fanbase as a whole, not just /vp/. Greninja did piss off some people with the scarf, but people got over it in about a week after they realized it was real. Despite jobbing spectacularly, Ash ninja was still hugely popular. Chesnaught bringing some fans back into the chespin fandom is true, but for the lines overall it still ended up greninja > delphox > chesnaught.
