There was a recent remake which powered all of them up.

Their faces are pretty neutral in a bestial kind of way, letting us impress our own dopey interpretations on them. Legendaries before and since have clearly tended towards a single facial expression, except for a few of them like mew.

To answer that, I suppose because gen 3 was hated for a long-ass time. People eventually started making memes to show how bad/stupid it was, which ironically ended up boosting its popularity instead. Things exploded when "Hoenn confurrmd" and finally ORAS hype season were dominating the board.

Similarly, space is not exclusively conceptual; it is the entire physical realm in which we actually live. It can be applied abstractly, but time and space as they apply to Gen 4 legendaries are their literal forms.
A nebulous thing to be the god of, but I would not go as far to say abstract.

Neither of those are universally recognized memes though, only if you're really poke-savvy. I forgot them because they were much less impressive, for lack of a better term. Also, I guarantee you nobody said hoenn confirmed before HGSS. Gen 3 was well past irrelevant by that point.

There are other things that could be said like Gardevoir being a porn magnet and Brendan's hat/hair but I like to think there's still a fine line between memes and other fandom-related jokes.

As others have said. Rise of the internet age was during gen 3 period. But even so, every gen seems to have it's staple meme.

Gen 1 it's everything because every schmoe knows it.

Gen 2 would probably be the legendary beast or Youngster Joey and his top percentage Rattata. Although, nowadays people like to quote Golder.

Gen 4 is anything involving Arceus.

Gen 5 is just a war about the designs.

Gen 6 is anything to do with Greninja, to his jobbing in the league, Sakurai nerfs, etc.

Gen 7 so far seems to be the "Get in the bag, Nebby."
