Only an idiot would believe they'd do this. They've been laying the foundation for it since the series began, but its not happening for a while.

People complained about the slow pace of the games, but the anime is following that. The plot in the SM games didn't start until fairly late, until that point it was developing Lillie and Hau.

They are actually bothering to reference old stuff, it's not just bringing Misty and Brock and that's that. They are actually putting effort to make things consistent and have actual fan-service for people who will get it.
