SM is just a bit worse imho. Dewott and Serperior are at least salvageable designs. All SM final evos are trash in my eyes, and the only good first evo is Torracat.

My favorite set, and some of my favorite Pokemon. Too bad Serperior and Samurott don't have secondary types - it would have helped them a lot.

Emboar is my favorite.

They don't mesh as a trio at all. There's the whole "each is a different culture" thing trying to give them a theme but that theme itself makes them clash. They're all okay on their own, though, I guess.

Serperior is pretty good, emboar and samurott are really bad, but they're not my least favorite trio. That'd be gen 6; gren is the best one, and it's only ok, while delphox and chesnaught are my least favorite fire and grass starters ever. Just feels like they really fucked up both their animal and human inspirations.

Gen 5 is the only Gen where I boxed my starter. I'm gonna box my starter in USUM, but that's only because I want to use a different Grass type this time around.

All 3 of them are "meh", which is worse than me disliking one, thinking one is "meh", and liking one.

I'm neutral towards them as a whole. Emboar prevents the trio from being perfect with how redundant and busy it is. Its also the only dualtype of the trio, and is a typing used from the last two fire starters, which is pretty lame and aggravating at the same time.

Gen 5 is probably my favorite gen, but I agree that they are the worst starters. Oshawott line is best in game (especially since the choices for water types in Unova are lackluster) but Samurott's design is kind of awkward. Snivy's line has the best design but in game it's really weak, even in just a regular run. Emboar's the 3rd Fire/Fighting starter in a row so that's irritating, plus it's way too slow.

I always pick Oshawott, which is sad, since every other gen I usually rotate between all 3 or at least 2 of them.

I like Serperior and Samurott enough to say they're my 2nd favorite grass and water starters. Emboar is the only one I'd change design and typing wise(should've been Fire/Ground).
Samurott has a near perfect design, honestly. It's cool looking on its own, but like others said it's a sudden deviation from its prevos. What's truly sad about Samurott though is that it doesn't require any major overall to its design. It just needs to stand up, and I can guarantee 90% of those who hated it would be fine.

I went through an numerically determined that I like them the most middling of all starter groups, 6 > 1 > 3 > V > 2 > 4 > 7.

Gen V = Gen IV for me. 1 standout (Infernape, Samurott) 1 alright (Torterra, Emboar), and 1 that I'm indifferent too (Empoleon, Serperior). Sounds genwunner, but Gen VII is worse to me. There all just so mediocre.

I really hate all the final forms, considering how good the first forms are it's even worse. Primarina is a garbage waifu-bait design, Incineroar has an alright gimmick but is yet another bipedal fire starter (that happens to look like a fursuit), Decidueye takes the best/cutest starter and turns it into a rather lame "edgy" hoodie archer.

Like most gen 7 Pokemon they're either absolutely love or hate, not much in between.

At the very bottom, yes they are the worst for me. I dont think i will ever recover from Wottergate, what a fucking disappointment they were, which is sad because gen5 poke designs are one of my favorite gens along with 1 and 3.
