Dungeons, gyms, complex (relatively speaking) routes and puzzles are always the highlight of Pokémon games.

Story is not necessary whatsoever, exploring and moving around the world and maps simply for the sake of it is fun enough in itself, and the presence of a narrative hurts that.

That's a valid opinion, but personally I disagree. Pokémon shouldn't be *too* story-heavy, but having at least some narrative substantially improves the games.
>>
>>33459853
I like it when the games have optional, sometimes hidden, lore that the player can discover at their own pace or ignore if they don't care.
>>
>>33459865
Yes, I agree, more detailed lore and plot can certainly be the kind of thing you have to seek out. But I still think that some sort of basic narrative is important, and enhances the experience. It doesn't have to be too in-depth, but there should be something.

>>33459890
I agree with both of these. Also, there should be ways to skip tutorials of any sort.

What I find fun about pokemon animated lactation breast_expansion games is different from what you find fun about pokemon games.
Therefore your opinion is shit.
>>
>>33459841
Pokemon should follow the Dragon Quest way. Pic related is a perfect balance of plot and non-linear exploration.
>>
>>33459925
Can we also have the option to toggle between retro and modern graphics settings then?

That's probably true. I think. I've never played THAT particular type of game.

Something like that could definitely work for Pokemon, considering this series never has anything complex in level or region design.
But this is Game Freak we're talking about, it would be incredibly half-assed. DQXI's retro version was incredibly polished for what it was, even going as far as including well-done animations for the sprite versions of major bosses and even attack animations.

Anon, that meme is so passé. Get with the times.
>>
>>33459841
Well only two of those things exist in pokemon games so I am not sure why you are mentioning the other two.
>>
>>33459841
One of the things I liked and about pokemon blue was the sense of freedom it gave you could actually explore and your road blocks were spaced enough that you could challenge some gyms out of order. I just played it last year for the time and I really enjoyed it. I feel like the gen 8 games on switch will also be give you a greater sense of freedom even if there's obvious restrictions. The reason being is that it's going to be a console game and they'll have no choice but to add more things to explore in order to make the game feel like a full fledged console game and not just a handheld port.

Before all the handholding linear bullshit I spent so much time exploring everything I could find in the games.
One of my greatest memories of Pokemon was hunting down the Regis in gen 3. I didn't have an internet connection when they originally came out, so I just managed to stumble across some braille, which I'd done a school assignment on not too long ago, so I went digging through my old junk so I could translate the braille and find out what the game was hiding from me.
