I got my Switch 2 days ago.

I fucking love the hardware, PS3+ tier games on the go is a blast and the battery life is the same as my launch 3DS so I'm not complaining.(Though I am gonna buy a portable battery for it/myphone/myablet/my 3DS)

Shit looks mad crisp on the screen, I'm excited for what gen 8 might look like.

I don't have BotW expectations, but I'm sure it'll till look good.

The series only took a hit because GameFreak wasn't willing to take the time to work on them. They rushed out X/Y and OR/AS, then didn't make a third version that could've cleaned up X/Y. Instead they went to S/M which, while it is definitely the most visually impressive Pokemon game, ran poorly on 3DS because they didn't take their time with it.

Graphically, they did pretty good with SM, however the 240p problem limits ALL 3DS games.

The frame drop was caused not be being incompetent or art or content wise, but because they're shitty programmers.

More power is more forgiving to shit programmers, we should get stable 30fps at least even with Gamefreak.

Great thing about getting one 4 or 5 years later, there will at least be a much larger catalog of games for you. Pokemon will definitely be out by then, Metroid Prime 4, Xenoblade 2, Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Kirby, Yoshi, etc. And a lot of them will be marked down quite a bit since they aren't brand new!

I'm very happy it's moving to a more console-tier level of hardware, but I'm equally worried. The Switch is nice, and I think the Pokemon formula will mesh perfectly, but I cant fully trust Gamefreak.

I'm not expecting a BotW, they dont need to go balls to the wall like Zelda did for it to be good. But they really need to open the game up at least a little. Give at least SOME sense of exploration. At least something. The past several games have been glorified hallways, and tons of my friends have fallen off of Pokemon because of how dreadfully boring the main games are nowadays. All I ask for is to ease off of the hand holding storyline, and give players time to breath, run around, do shit with more freedom. Dont gotta skyrim that shit, just take the babby training wheels off for a fucking minute.

In addition, and more likely, if they can really take advantage of the better processing and touch some stuff up, they can get that full Sugi-styled aesthetic in game, similar to how Dragon Quest has done. That shit is beautiful, and despite how awful it looks now, they ARE on the right track.

What install base is there for the Switch?

You'll say that it's selling well. So was the WiiU in its first year. Hell, the WiiU at least was etting a bunh of third party games and was more powerful than the PS360. This is not the case with the Switch.

I'm still trying to understand what kind of person the Switch is for. Manchildren who enjoys toys? Because portable gamers will want long battery lifes and small hardware, while home console gamers will want power. The Switch has neither. It doesn't have the games either.

Unless it gets a mini version priced similar to the New 3DS, I just don't see this console doing well, considering history.

Well, so far it's sold over 5m units. With holiday season rolling around, we can expect a lot of units to be pushed. Then Pokemon comes out, earliest, holiday season next year. So that's plenty of time for the install base to build, plus the holiday season push, plus any potential price cuts.
Not to mention it has fantastic games already released and announced! Switch will be fine and is going to be a great home for Pokemon.
