Went from Alpha Sapphire to Sun last year after having over 999:99 as my play time on the first game.
When Sun released, I found thr character models odd at first, but I eventually got used to it. I went back to AS for a bit and I noticed how the Gen VI character models in general were just really short in comparison to Gen VII. I do agree with how the running animation looks odd though, along with other animtions such as jumping.

Chibi models are cool dude, that's why I liked Final Fantasy 3 on DS. Not a great game, but it looked nice...

The animations are generally better on the chibi models, though they have the issue of no idles. Though some people might prefer standing perfectly still to autistic swaying and "I don't know what to do with my hands".

The models in SM are more detailed and technical, but lack any character. Except a few like Gladion, Guzma, and a few others.
The chibi style gave a lot of room for visual personality, despite their actual personalities falling completely flat.
