Bond-Phenomenon. Ash-Greninja's unique gimmick is expanded by giving some Pokémon the Battle Bond ability, but the only way it can be obtained is from NPC's that give you Pokémon with the ability.

Additionally, Battle Bond also alters many moves if activated much like Water Shuriken never failing and always doing 3 damages if used by Ash-Greninja.

Pokémon Power: Based on TCG, if a Pokémon is holding a Phylosopher's Stone it can use its inner power in battle (boosting one, two, or all stats by 1 or 2 stages, using a Z-Move without Z-Crystal, change its ability to another one in mid-battle, evolving in mid-battle, etc.). In Online Battles the Philosopher's Stone is consumed after used (but returns after the battle is finished just like consumable items)

Jade cacoon had a fusion system that im pretty sure had generated rather than individually created models. And this was back in ps1 era. Gamefreak could just write code look at end results and make a few minor tweaks.
