The XL models have horrible QC problems. It will very likely fall apart on you no matter how gentle you are with it.
Get a 2DS because it's cheap.

I bought my 3DS for Pokemon games and found out a huge library of game series I ended up loving. So yeah, go for it.

I have a 2DS XL, it's wonderful. Faster than the 3DS, no 3D slider wasting space on the system, it's sleek and surprisingly light. Also the game (and SD card) have a door to keep them safe from the elements.
