No it isn't. It's bait in the form of a reddit meme.

Limited color palette. Doesn't just get bigger when it evolves. Concept that makes sense that is also mixed with the design well. The aesthetic should be similar to official Pokemon.

Devamped Kalos Route 2. Getting the proportions took forever (Comparing XY to ORAS, ORAS to RSE, compressing the map size so that an ORAS map matches an RSE map, dimension-wise, and then RSE-izing ORAS to XY, all before finally putting it in GSC tiles).

I know it's not your fault, but without fancy distracting 3D graphics, this is quite a boring route.

If you're making an X/Y devamp (which would be great, since emulating 3DS games is anywhere from impractical to impossible) consider customizing the tiles and colors. Nothing major necessarily, just different textures for the trees, grass, water, cliffs... the common tiles give each region its own feel. Even GSC used the original RBY tiles to separate Kanto from Johto.
>>
>>33455447
That looks good! Did you post other maps before this one? I'd love to see.

>>
>>33457705
>>33457777
The ledges don't make sense to me. They should indicate a rising slope, but they seem to just be there as backtracking shortcuts.
>>
>>33457777
>>33457824
to add onto my other comment. i do like the beach spot. thats pretty nice.
>>
>>33457777
So you're using a 16x16 grid instead of 32x32. That's alright for natural patterns of trees and dirt and such, but (a) it encourages 1-tile-wide paths and sharp corners, which are both annoying to navigate, and (b) it makes it possible to mess up more "standardized" tiles. Like the gatehouses. Your Route 1 gatehouse is one tile too wide, and Route 2 has weirdly adjacent doors (and a carpet in front of them, which never happens in canon; rugs indicate doors you can't see).

I do like that you changed the gatehouse roof color. They look not-boring that way. And are those dirt patches for Gen 3-style Berries? Neat.

>>33457751
Forced grass patches are standard for a reason. It's an excuse to need a Pokémon before leaving town, an early easy challenge, and a way to nudge kids into getting exp before fighting other trainers.
>>
>>33457777
>>33457829
Yeah, if anything, the coast should slope *down* from the mainland. How is the water not flooding?
>>
>>33457849
>>33457829
I'm thinking about putting a rock slope to address this, I was thinking of the ledges in ORAS style where they are more like little bumps.

Also, the north gate is missing a colored roof because I make the different towns have different colors and I haven't decided what color to make that town yet.
>>
>>33457844
Is my gatehouse too wide? I thought they where 5 tiles wide in gen 2. I just wanted to standardize the carpet thing because it's a weirdly 4th wall-breaking, though.

>>33458039
Here are GSC Johto gatehouses.
As long as you're being consistent with the carpet, then great. It's not like you have to obey any of Gen 2's design patterns, as long as you have your own patterns that look good. (And the 5-tile gatehouse does look fine, if that's how they'll all be.)
>>
>>33458094
Oh, you're right! I guess I'll change that one since I only have 1 horizontal gate right now anyway.

Thank you for your feedback everyone, i'll be back in a while with some of the edits you suggested.

>I know it's not your fault, but without fancy distracting 3D graphics, this is quite a boring route
Introducing, Kalos Route 1.

But, yeah, the simplicity of Kalos's early routes becomes a lot more apparent when proportionally devamped to GSC size (this explains the shitty use of vanilla tiles; my focus was solely on proper size/proportions). However, I should note that I actually don't plan on making a X/Y devamp hack; I only starting doing these maps out of boredom, mapping for the sake of mapping, like I did with Sinnoh. My plan (if you can call it that) was to make these Kalos maps and just make them publicly usable, with no credit needed. That way, if someone did make a Kalos devamp, or, more likely, include a portion of Kalos as part of a side-quest in their larger game (think Azalea Town in Brown and Prism), it would be properly proportioned in-line with GSC Johto thanks to my autistic ass, and that hacker could save development time by just using my maps.

But, especially after looking at this piece of shit Route 1, maybe this project wouldn't be worth it.

>>33457817
No, but I did make the partial Sinnoh devamp posted in previous /heg/ threads.

Trainer AI, simple: edit trainers/attributes.asm so more classes use flags like AI_SMART and AI_TYPES.

The whole point is to take a good game, fix what was still wrong with it, and make a great game.

Essentials fixes what isn't broken, like the battle interface, and breaks what used to work, like every platform other than Windows.
>>
>>33471955
gen iv hacking is in its infancy
>>
>>33471955
most of the completely original games suck, and all the best ones are hacks anyways.

The best fangames are just improved versions of the main games, like Liquid Crystal or Red+
>>
>>33472092
>Liquid Crystal
If you're going to cite an improvement hack, don't bring up Liquid Crystal. The bad writing and forced edgy protagonists ruin the game, and make the Kanto segment not even worth playing. Which is a real shame since the stuff that isn't terrible is really quite good.

The best Gen II GBA remake is Crystal Dust. It's not even finished and it's already better than Liquid.

Red++ borrows from FRLG, Polished Crystal borrows from HGSS, an Emerald overhaul should borrow from ORAS. That means map tweaks (from the flowers in Oldale to the changed colors in Lavaridge), new locations (Sea Mauville, expanded Scorched Slab, Soaring-only locations (they could be accessible by exploring routes, or Rock Climb, or something), Lisia, Cosplay Pikachu, Mega Evolutions, post-Champion battle with your rival, etc. But of course don't borrow ORAS's fuckups like removing the Battle Frontier. And fix the standard complaints about RSE (Pomeg glitch, NPCs that are too easy/hard, too many water encounters, pic related). Beyond that, add an original touch to the game. Cameos from other generations, continuity nods like https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_cross-generational_references, anything you're inspired to add that fits with the atmosphere of the original. (Personally I'd like a snowy area somewhere.)
>>
>>33474783
What about new evolutions for pre-existing Pokemon, like eevee or regional variants?
>>
>>33474783
>a snowy area
I don't see that fitting too well in the Hoenn region.
I always thought of the first four generations following seasonal themes, with Kanto being Spring, Johto being Autumn, Hoenn being Summer, and Sinnoh being Winter.

I'm sure there could be a distant location accessible through something similar to the event ticket ship, or possibly even something north of Shoal Cave if done properly.
>>
>>33474829
You mean fakemon? Can't recommend it. People will avoid the game just from hearing "fakemon", and 90% of them really are bad. If you're committed to a new Eeveelution, though, go for it, it's your game. IMO regional forms are more justifiable but still weird and non-canon. Also you can usually get away with retypings that make sense, but don't change the type chart, or at least provide a copy without the changes. (I can understand wanting to make Ice or Grass less bad.)
