ITT: Pokemon who survived their transition to 3D
>>33448124
Not really. Sandslash looks like it is constantly trying to cross its arms or that shit rappers do when they try to look cool. Really no Pokemon has survived the 3D transition for me. Shit poses are mostly the thing that makes them as bad as they are. :/
>>33448124
>yet another "muh 2D" thread
kys yourself
>>33448124
None of them survived. They paled, like corpses
>>33448141
>muh colors
Most of gen 5 to be honest (except Haxorus). A didn't like a lot of gen 5 Pokemon when they were sprite form but a lot of them, such as Druddigon, Klink, and Ducklett look much better in 3D
Look at that little tempo tail
>>33448155
What the fuck I love Chatot now
>>33448124
most did
it's just a few that got fucked, like this
He will never be good which crushes my heart, but at least his 3D model came out pretty damn well.
I do wish they would go back and brighten colors up and put a little more life into the animations. The more vibrant sprite works really made things pop out more.
>>33448138
But Sandslash's pose basically copies the official art..
>:/
Oh, i get it.
>>33448169
how does he do it?
The model is fucking great, if only the animations were as good
>>33448161
Amie/Refresh is cheating, almost all the Pokemon look good in that.
>>33448179
It's a sentient pile of rocks, what you expect it to do?
>>33448169
Hell no.
I want my dancing eel back.
>>33448179
At least the animations are better than the other mainline games.
>>33448193
At least bash its arms together or hit the ground with them in its idle animation. It doesn't move like it's a golem/robot thing either.
>>33448200
Dancing gorilla eel with little feet?
Also now at least you might be able to guess that it has levitate, before it made no sense since it was always walking.
>>33448139
Honestly I prefer the 3D models over the 2D sprites.
>>33448169
This looks like shit. The sprite was better.
>>33448210
>a golem/robot thing that has remained immobile for centuries remains immobile wtf
I mean, it can't really survive if it was already dead
Some of the rocks came out pretty nice
>>33448200
>>33448296
Awful opinions.
I'm having a hard time finding grass types that didn't survive
Tangrowth so far
Bring it on.
>>33448297
>movement from all of its sprites and the anime is fairly quick and robot-like
>lol its rocks who cares?
>>33448169
Unironically this. Dancing eel is cute, by this is better
You retards do realize that the models have actual animations for attacks right? These threads always make me laugh because people compare a static sprite to an idle model.
>>33448388
I'm still upset. At least his arms are still stretchy.
>>33448411
An animation won't fix awful proportions and shapes. When a significant portion of people turn animations off, they should make the idle models look good when that's what every single player sees the majority of the time
>>33448395
Needs to be constantly spinning
>>33448411
let it be anon
let it be
>>33448430
>a significant portion of people turn animations off
People actually do that?
literally the only good animation out of all 800 or however many pokemon there are
>>33448437
Yeah, it is a significant waste of time, and they mostly don't look good. Maybe for the Switch version they'll really justify 60 dollar prices and polish up the animations but I still just see a pokemon run around in a quick circle while giant glowy claw marks flash on the screen, it's not worth tacking on another 10 hours of down time onto the game
>>33448430
>When a significant portion of people turn animations off, they should make the idle models look good when that's what every single player sees the majority of the time
>When a significant portion of people turn animations off
>>33448458
I know WHY you would do it, I'm just calling bullshit on the "significant portion of people part"
The sprite was already shit, so this one was pretty easy
>>33448477
I guess I could be proven wrong, but I've seen lets players do it, and a couple of my friends do
>>33448405
I hope you're fucking joking. The BW2 sprite makes it look like it's breathing. Not robot-like at all. Its second idle animation has it moving its arms for some kind on non-foot stomp. Same for Regice and Registeel. Regice sways its arms like in the GC games erratically but one at a time. Registeel does some weird vibrations. Your only point is on the anime.
>>33448416
I can understand not wanting to clutter the sprite, but what stops them from covering the entire model with vines? It just look cheap and weird.
>>33448124
In game a lot of them are fine.
But decontextualized images of 3D models in 2D backgrounds are just shit, all of them. This is why I always use sprites in images.
>>33448416
Vines should be darker and cover more of his lower body
>>33448284
This, I wonder why they didn't transition to 3d earlier in gen 4 or 5. There were lots of complaints
>>33448479
It's not the Sprite or model that's shit, it's the design that's shit, it's just a giant fucking burr
>>33448179
all of the regis survived
>>33448634
Does it really count if it was irredeemably shit to begin with?
>>33448169
I like this one.
The choice is particularly easy if it stands between this one and the gen V animated spirte.
>>33448639
I'll lick ya sumthin' fierce m8 I swear on me mum.
>>33448648
lewd
>>33448169
>>33448299
>>33448479
Gen V had pretty shit sprites.
>>33448411
>You retards do realize that the models have actual animations for attacks right?
Yeah and it has absolutely nothing to do with what this thread is about. Fuck off.
>>33448701
only games with consistently good sprites were platinum and hgss
>>33448169
>>33448313
>>33448395
>>33448479
these look worse in 3D.
>>33448691
porygon should have remained a 2d sprite within the 3d games with porygon2 jumping to 3d and porygon-z becoming a 4th dimensional entity
>>33448716
I would put Pt in front of HGSS, it had a couple of really shitty sprites like Jolteon.
Personally I think Crystal has fantastic sprites too, especially for its time. Compared to RSE it is a lot easier to make out what is actually going on in the sprites, and they were 56x56 instead of 64x64. On top of that I think they had the best intro animation, with different parts moving independently, unlike gen III-IV where they only switch between two frames.
>>33448748
They fucked up the gold color big time.
>>33448729
cool idea
>>33448799
Why did Gen 3 have such shitty sprites anyway?
>>33448832
I feel like they made the colors extra bright in order to make up for the very dark screen the GBA had which now makes anyone who emulates want to rip their eyes out.
>>33448721
fore real?
they never got his eyes and the head proportion right
while the 3d model proportion is perfect, the eyes arenĀ“t weird and open the third eyes when using doom desire
gen V sprite was creepy as hell
>>33448729
>porygon should have remained a 2d sprite within the 3d games
Porygon is LITERALLY supposed to be 3d model you fuck.
>>33448832
Credit where credit is due. I feel like they really nailed the move animations in gen III. I prefer the crisp attacks to the more fluid ones from gen IV and V. Particularly in gen IV does it feel like the spires and moves are from different worlds.
>>33448124
Most of them did pretty well except for ones with specifically iconic poses and the ones with the dumb sky battle style gliding (I don't mind that much if they're flapping save for a few, but gliding usually looks dumb).
Some of them drastically changed poses rather than just standing, but a lot of those were great too, like Hitmontop.
>>33448561
take that back right now you little bitch
>>33448648
Likitung wants cumm
>>33448716
You forgot gen 2
>>33448139
>>33448284
>>33448557
Hello, John. Go market somewhere else.
>>33448299
Druddigon is more of a case where a mon that was straight up saved by 3D
>>33448157
Kys
>>33448169
I liked it better when i danced
>>33448382
>>33449270
Ahhh the disgust I just felt
It's horrible anon
>>33448124
Sandslash got chubbier, so I wouldn't say it survived unscathed.
>>33448297
>immobile golem wakes up
>still immobile
Is this what you wanted?
>>33448141
>waaah why wont everything be neon oversaturated
Mr. Mime
>muh sprites
haha retards wow
it's as if 3d models also have move and idle animations on top of a sole "model", so judging just one gif does not make sense
spritefags are absolutely retarded
also most bad designs, like lugia, looked good only in some sprites because of how much stylised and active they look, Lugia in 3rd gen was great sure, but every other sprite exposed how fat and graceless it looks and moves
>>33448151
>muh sugimori art
>>33449055
this
iconic poses is exactly what I mean and most models have to be judged together with all their animations to actually show the whole concept of the particular pokemon
>>33454633
Lugia's DPPt sprite was also great.
And none of them are even remotely as atrocious as the model.
wtf i cant believe they ruined joe with the 3d model
>>33454645
it looks better than what you posted if that's what you're getting at
>>33454660
I don't think so, in dppt lugia's sprite is zoomed out too much and it looks kind of tiny with its open wings taking all the space
instead in Emerald Lugia takes up the entire portrait and its animation even brakes its boundaries, it looks *overwhelming*
also the active pose has the head at the very front and the wings bent to leave space for the head
it is a huge difference
https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Lugia_(Pok%C3%A9mon)#Sprites
>>33454676
still hot though
no homo
>>33454698
correction, I mixed up HGSS with DPPT sprite, the DPPT one is fine actually hardly any different than Emerald, but the HGSS one is shit
5th gen and forward only goes downhill with the HGSS problems
Unown
>>33454710
I guess... if Steve Buscemi is what you find hot.
I haven't played a 3DS pokemon game yet, but Sableye looked much better in Colosseum.
>>33454905
>I haven't played a 3DS pokemon game yet
1. Why?
2. What do you even do in this board
>>33454676
His voice is worse
>>33454683
The colorful sprites looked better than the awful desaturated models if that's what you're getting at
>>33448691
my problem with this is that porygon has smooth edges. they should be hard.
>>33454978
probably because all of them are shit
>>33448445
Colosseum animation was better.
>>33448691
>Porygon z doesn't spaz out
https://youtu.be/GTJExxjYA8Y?t=94
>>33455162
his ears were placed way too low
>>33454485
That grass looks radioactive as fuck.
>>33454978
He didn't miss out on much honestly.
>>33448388
Tropius got a bit fucked by sky battles, but its attacking animations are solid.
I also don't like how they gave sceptile a more dinosaur-like posture instead of its old lizard-like posture, but that's more of a personal thing. It could even be a reference to how dinosaurs were viewed in the past (big lizards balancing on their tails, corresponds with the "retro" look sprites have) and how they're viewed now (tail held straight out, matches the "modern" look of the 3d models). Probably overthinking it, but it'd be cool if it was intentional.
u fucking wot
Sandslash is one of the only pokemon to ACTUALLY be fucked over by their 3d model rather then just having shit animations
They outright forgot it's arms have joints/two seperate parts.
>>33455331
To be fair, Sceptile's old posture with it dragging the tail made no sense with it supposedly being "the quickest mon in the jungle" or something like that.
>>33452414
Druddigon looks just as hideous as it always did.
>>33448729
No, Porygon is supposed to be a low-poly model. Its name is fucking Polygon but with the good old L->R Japanese business. If anything, they should have given it a baby form that looked like a cheap flat sprite, considering Porygon2 and Porygon-Z are both the same evolutionary stage.
>>33456962
huh, i never noticed that
I still think it looks fine though
>>33457039
Hold on sorry I'm a retard, Porygon2 being just as viable as Z made me actually forget that it wasn't a split evo, I forgot it was because of eviolite.
>>33456962
>They outright forgot it's arms have joints/two seperate parts.
they didnĀ“t
>>33457114
no, no he's right. they did
>>33457187
They didn't. They made the upperarm a bit stubbier, but it was always short. It's just that detail is lost on the 3DS so the joint isn't really visible.
>>33457207
meant to attach this
>>33454905
Pretty much any 3D model in Colosseum looks better than the 3DS ones.
>>33457361
lmaoing @ ur life
>>33448609
I agree, but Registeel is hanging on by a thread
>>33455127
Damn, can we get something like this when we move to the Switch? These battles are way more interesting to watch.
