I traded an event heracross from summer 2014 for a Volcanion since it was one of the two remaining mons I needed to complete the gen 6 living dex. Kinda missed him after the deal was done so decided to hunt for a shiny to fill his place, after 9 eggs, the pink blessing surprised me.

Guys I need help.

I'm hunting using the pokeradar in platinum. But I can't seem to get over a 19 chain without breaking it by stepping in the wrong grass. I don't seem to understand this shaking grass stuff. I watched videos but they where pretty vague and left me even more confused. So my last resort is asking you guys. What am I doing wrong. And how come my chain keeps on breaking when I (think) I'm stepping on the right grass patch, or pleas just give me any tips on the right grass patches to step on. Pleas any answers are good.

I had a bunch of trouble when I started out too, but the secret is basically reset until a perfect patch and don't take any risks. If a patch makes contact with another patch, don't enter. If a patch is on the border of the grass patches, don't enter. If a patch is of a different type than the one needed to continue the chain, don't enter. Also there's the fact that sometimes (~2%) chains break for absolutely no reason, so you just have to keep going at it until you strike gold. Good luck Anon! I'm gearing up for a Rayquaza hunt in Ruby. I already got a spare masterball because it's really going to be tough to catch. My genius plan is to use Own Tempo + Skill Swap so it doesn't get confused. Also leveling up my pokemon so they don't get knocked out.

Imagine a breeding route that's straight, that you bike up and down to hatch eggs on. Now imaging a later gen introduces a "route" that's a loop, allowing you to just hold down one direction and sit back and watch eggs hatch. Now imagine that infinite loop gets replaced with a tiny box that forces you to hold B and spin the circle pad like an idiot to hatch eggs. I got my Smeargle with the recommended moves. Now I need to level it up. I'm working on my back-up team. I think Shedinja will be good.

I got 10 Luxury Balls but I'll be happy with an Ultra Ball. If worst comes to worst the Master Ball is a nice relief after a long hunt.

The best way to farm Luxury Balls in gen 3 in my opinion is Resort Gorgeous in FRLG.

I think SOS is good because you are more likely to get the species you want compared to other wild encounters. It sucks to get a shiny and it's not the one you want.

If you care about competitive pokemon I don't see why anyone would do anything other than breeding. The best way to get egg moves and IVs is breeding I guess.

I might be in the minority since I hear so much hate for SOS but I think it's a very engaging mechanic. I know some people care about only one thing when shiny hunting, speed. They just want their shiny ASAP. I actually just want the process to be entertaining and SOS does that for me.
