Damn, I was about to post the exact same thing. Samurott has a near perfect design, but the decision to make it quadrapedal ruined it. I'm baffled as to how whoever was in charge of designing it got artists block and had to look at seals at the zoo for inspiration. And that's not even the issue because again, Samurott has a near perfect design. He should've kept it on two legs instead of relying too much on the sea lion idea.

I remember when I choose water and went into the game blind. I got a female water clown thing and had no idea what its final form would be.

Imagine my anger when I saw my bipedal female warrior turn into a blue cow with a santa beard. A hole lot of WTF went through my mind. I boxed the abomination and have never touched that particular pokemon ever again.

Yeah. And I actually really adore the design as it is capable of meeting exceptions without going on the "just gets bigger" route. The way how it's primarily portrayed in the media is my only pet peeve. As people use that as a valid excuse to justify their distaste for the design when its actually really not THAT bad in terms of aesthetic detail and thematic progression.

*Sighs* A shame the damage has already been done. And Gamefreak are unable to undo this, due to their massive incompetence with Unova's starters....

They COULD give us the bipedal Water/Fighting or /steel design we all deserve via Mega/Alola form/whatever autism gen 8 introduces, even though they will never pay attention to the Unova starters again

it's a shame Samurott turned out the way it did; there's nothing really wrong with it on its own, but it looks absolutely nothing like something that's supposed to be from the Oshawott line at all

the fact that they actually had artist's block with Oshawott's final form really hurts me

Honestly, I'd love samurott if it stood up. Even if it did a conkeldurr type thing where it propped itself up on the swords would've worked. But the ONE TIME gf should actually make an animal bipedal, they don't do it. Damn shame.

Samurott's color scheme is my favorite part about it. Royal blue and gold gives it an "Atlantian"- vibe somewhat. It seems more "ancient"- looking than Empoleon, despite the penguin's beak being fused with a trident.

Thats what it's HA should've been. I mean, it's understandable Razor Shell would be less reliable compared to Waterfall and Aqua Tail as it's a move Oshawott would learn during the early part of the game, but they couldn't be assed to give us an initiative to even use it competitively when it is what defines the evolution line? At the very least, signature moves for future starters are becoming less gimmicky...

Sparkling Aria is gimmicky and pretty worthless unless you want to run its Z-Move. I would have done something like "Swordplay: Slashing moves become stronger" (Increased base power and critical possibility))

The most infuriating thing is that they have a tendency to overuse bipedal in their starter ( See the last 4 fire starter ). In the one case that it would have made it better they chose not to.
