TL:DR:
>Complete all Trainer Challenges to get 45 free packs (use Cheat Engine's speedhack to speed up AI games)
>Play through using Basic decks to unlock them for versus play.
>Farm Versus Mode theme ladder for Tokens and Tournament Tickets.
>Enter tournaments to get TRADABLE chests and packs.
>DON'T OPEN THEM.
>Trade them for the cards you actually want for a deck you want to build.
>Public trade is like the GTS, if you want proper results, put up your own offers.

What themedeck should I buy?
>Buy the Lunala one.

When will TPC do tournaments that let PTCGO players go to Worlds?
>>
PorygonZ/Weavile
>>
I've been messing around with the Gardevoir-GX deck that won Worlds' Master's division and I can see why it's so nasty.

I've also been testing out Micheal Long's Greninja build. Barring that terrible loss due to having two frogs prized, it's pretty solid despite the lack of recovery.

>>33431480

I'd only be fine with that if they get find and use a better shuffling algorithm.

>>
>>33431706

Not him, but you use Rule of Evil to spread damage to Stage 1/2 'mons with Abilities and then use Porygon Z to devolve them for an instant KO.

The problem with that idea is that Volcanion walls you hard.
>>
>>33431755
Not to mention you have to manually evolve Porygon 2 to Porygon Z for the effect to trigger. No shortcuts allowed unless you just Evosoda the Porygon to Porygon 2.

So perhaps someone here can answer a question related to the TCG.

Like many people, I have alot of old commons and uncommons from Base, Jungle, and Fossil growing up in the 90's and 2000's. Just looking at sites like TCGPlayer, some of these can between 10-20 cents a piece. However, this seems too good to be true, as it strikes me as a slow process with minimal gain thanks to postage cost and low interest in the cards (like seriously who wants a fucking fossil Shellder these days?)

Should I just sell these to a bulk site for 3-4 cents a piece and be done with it? Does anyone have experience with a similar situation?

You poor, sad soul.

You are allergic to fun.

You are the sort of man who makes sandwiches for every meal unless he's on a special diet, because to you, taste is a meaningless thing. Food is simply food.

The idea one can engage in something for pleasure escapes you. Unless it is practical or makes you money, you see no value in it. I can only hope this was your own choice of lifestyle, not some hideous upbringing...

Was your childhood sterile grey, numbers and letters? Did your parents deem the wonders of Saturday morning cartoons too vivid for you? Did they, God have mercy, do to you what I have only heard whispers of- send you to camps and schools whose sole purpose is to grind every last spark of imagination, childhood, and wonder out of you, until you are nothing more than a word processor and calculator made of meat?

You must forgive these lurid hypotheses. They are the only things I can imagine would ever result in producing someone so utterly devoid of fun- an black hole unto happiness- so utterly in contempt of every flickering flame of joy and hope that you, with zeal that would give a Crusader pause, seek to snuff them out.

God have mercy on your soul, sir, or whatever remains of it.

God have mercy on you.

But in the online game, happens pretty often.
>It's literally perfectly mechanically random
Oh, so you are a shill, I forgot to read that part
>>
RIP standard gyrados. Glad i got a few play in today before moving on.
>>
>>33432736
It's literally impossible for it to be perfectly random. Computers have to rely on pseudo random functions to make this kind of shuffling and there is no reason to believe ptcgo team put any effort into it. Starting with 4 VS Seeker is a frequent complaint although a correct randomization should make it unlikely.

But since any complaint is dismissed as "gambler's falacy", they will never care for checking if there is a bug in their algorithm.
>>
>>33440542
>there is no reason to believe ptcgo team put any effort into it.
This is one of the things advocating for the randomization being good enough. Yeah, true randomness is really hard, but there exists a lot of already made libraries usually included inside the standard which contain more than enough randomization for shuffling. It's much easier for the programmers to use one of these functions than roll out their own buggy approach. So if there was bad randomization it wouldn't be because they didn't put enough effort, it would be because they put effort in making it not completly random.

>But since any complaint is dismissed as "gambler's falacy"
>>
>>33437055
This card might have some value if the "must have more prize cards remaining" clause wasn't there with that it's pretty much a dead card perhaps if it was "more or the same amount" it would be somewhat usable.
>>
>>33440606
Continuing this.

>But since any complaint is dismissed as "gambler's falacy"
Again, there has been people which recorded a big amount of hands and determined that there wasn't any statistical bias. Maybe that was noisy data and there was a statistical abnormaly, so you should totally redo that and add the calculations too.
Until then all the signs other than people complaining here point to the shuffle being correct, and it should be treated as so until someone shows some evidence that it's not.
Unless you wanna complain about how your bad luck is t
>>
>>33440606
>but there exists a lot of already made libraries usually included inside the standard which contain more than enough randomization for shuffling

You do not just type "rand()" and get the deck shuffled. Randomizing those 60 cards with just that is simple, but it still demands a complete algorithm and there are lots of ways of doing that wrong.

>there has been people which recorded a big amount of hands and determined that there wasn't any statistical bias

Who? Where is this data? Or is that what you wish they did?

>Until then all the signs other than people complaining here point to the shuffle being correct, and it should be treated as so until someone shows some evidence that it's not.
That's exactly what I was talking about dismissing any complaint. The problem here is that people arguing in favor of the algorithm assume it works in order to prove it works. No evidence is enough because it can all be justified with "IRL there can also be a deviation". The only way to prove would be if ptcgo team showed their code, which will never happen.
>>
>>33440858
> but it still demands a complete algorithm
Googling Fisher–Yates isn't hard. Everyone knows it, and the point is that using these already established algorithms is much easier than rolling your own.

>Who? Where is this data?
>>26742077
You could have searched for yourself you lazy fuck. But you are right, this is probably not conclusive enough, and he could be lying, so you should make this tests again.
Until then you should assume the hands are random.

>No evidence is enough because it can all be justified with "IRL there can also be a deviation"
That's why the statistical tests and p values (as often missused as they are) are needed, you can't ever be completly sure but you can get pretty damn close. It has worked for a lot of science research throught the years, it will be good enough for a children's card game.

The problem here is that this "Evidence" isn't nothing more than people's anecdotal evidence about drawing/prizing something bad. And people is hillariously bad at discerning random occurences.

>true randomness is really hard
No it's not. It's a basic 1d60 die roll. You randomly assign a number to each card in the deck, then draw the largest number.

Every time you shuffle you, you reassign again, only now it's 1d"HighestNumberNotYetDrawn"
>>
>>33440858
>You do not just type "rand()" and get the deck shuffled. Randomizing those 60 cards with just that is simple, but it still demands a complete algorithm and there are lots of ways of doing that wrong.
Except you do. It really is that easy. The rest is handling the information generated.

>>
>>33441939
Yeah, that's pretty similar to Fisher-Yates. But that's just the algorithm.
The true randomness (the one I assume the anon I was responding to was talking about) was in reference about how doing a die roll truly random in a computer is impossible because everything is deterministic. That's why I said that libraries solve it, they use some entropy for example you can image time, mouse position and whatever that can't be calculated nor modified. But this is a trickier problem that it may seem, for example if you simply used plain time as entropy you may have problems because the left side numbers will change rarely, so you may have things like a higher probability to get a high roll.
Thankfully lots of clever people worked on rand() functions that even the dumbest programmer can call and that provide "sufficient enough" randomization. That's what I assume the PTCGO crew used.

What kind of deck does Acerola go into?
>>
>>33442716
you dont run in it decks that have low hp attackers like nightmarch or mew/passimian. they get 1 shot too easily so its dead weight. its great in evolution decks with large hp like gard gx or golisopod. Usually they take 2 hits before they KO so to deny them that math can swing the game in your favor. it loses its viability as tech due to vs seeker rotating out. So you want to run higher numbers than before to see those plays. itll be good with the new zoroark gx
>>
>>33442271
Okay but unless you're doing something stupid and lazy like the old gbc ptcg game and make it based on previous moves (which makes soft resetting a huge pain because you have to change what you do to change the outcome of coin flips and draw) that's not a problem. Approximations are fine, if it's skewed .00003% towards certain cards it doesn't matter, hand shuffling is just as much of an approximation if not moreso.

Also, since you only ever have 60 cards, exclusively right side of time would honestly be much smarter.

Make it based on not one variable but a derivative of two or three, and it becomes nearly impossible to manipulate.
You'd have to be frame perfect in a multiplayer game, have your mouse exactly placed, and then something really annoying that the attempting cheating player has absolutely no way to control like first digit of opponent's player ID number.
>>
>>33442765
Anything with really big hp takes forever to re-evolve.
>>
>>33442774
Exactly, that's why I said that's not a problem.
>>
>>33442784
No you stream your attackers. So you have 1 kirlia on the bench. Acerola your damaged Gard GX. denying them the 2hko. Of course some evolution decks are far superior than others. stage 1 gx decks can abuse acerola very well.

I have been playing TCGO for the past 2 years never owned a Physical card since they are hard to get here, but since a couple of months there's a place that sells the latest theme decks (they hace solgaleo, Lunala and one of the breakpoint) I wanna buy 1 deck just for collection I don't know anybody IRL who plays and myself shouldn't be playing since I'm 28

does the OP is right and I should get the Lunala one or which one do you recommend?
>>
>>33442974
your money is better spent on singles. Or some battle arena deck since that is 2 player with some nice staples. Theme decks are bad buys paper and online
>>
>>33442974
the OP only recommends a theme deck because you have to buy one to do your trainer challenge, theme decks are a poor use of tokens and a poor use of RL money unless you like playing theme.

Counter Energy just gave it a fighting chance. I don't know about the Gigas he is going to die against Gard GX and X-Ball style attacks. The trio is tight though. I see a toolbox including Ice and Steel attacking with Rock as support. Shaymin from the upcoming Shining Legends can pinch as a revenge killer as grass coverage and Mew from Fates Collide can copy anyone's basic mons moves to cover psychic. Baby Koko can be added because why the hell not? Special Charge and Puzzle of Time is going to be needed to get back Rainbow/Counter tho. Run basics at your discretion. Metal and Water seem best.

Fossils haven't worked like that in ages. Now they search the bottom of your library. If you've played pessimism, it's like trying to grab your DCEs with energy lotto but for finding a specific basic. Yes, they're useless. But not a robo-substitute that evolves into a basic anymore, thank John GF.
>>
My girlfriend just started playing and she wanted a psychic deck, I think I did good, she didn't have many card so it was pretty hard.

Yes she pulled a fucking lele in her first pack, lunala on her 3th and the tauros is a gift from me
and the espeon come from the physical espeon box, and I'm waiting on a trade for the second one.
>>
>>33443558
>>33442974
But yeah, the only time it would ever, ever be economical to buy a theme deck is if it would cost you 8 or more pika avatar boxes to buy what you want from that deck. 500/(55+8)=7.93650793651
I don't think there are any that fit that description right now, but I could see it potentially hitting that. 1 each for its 2 main rare, 1 for its 3 stage1, 1 for its 4 basic, that's already up to 4 box. Oranguru is 1. So if you were missing a lot of necessary trainers, like rescue stretcher, nest ball, kukui, I could maybe see it. That's part of why roaring heat and hidden moon are suggested by us as your designated "1 necessary to complete the trainer challenge" theme deck though. They net you all those, plus are just generally decent to use.

Alternately, that same 500 coins with a pika box->flip rare->pack->final trade chain has about 6 GRI packs worth of buying power.
Meaning if you're willing to trade grind a theme deck is completely outclassed in every way and should never ever be bought.
>>
>>33443673

How well does she do with the deck?
>>
>>33443762
she has not tried it yet since I'm still waiting on a trade for espeon and eevee, if you want I'll update tomorrow night
>>
>>33443728
How in the hell did pika packs become so lucrative? Is it just because the public market is so shit that flipping the tiniest thing can go unnoticed by the more experienced traders (who usually try their damn hardest to monopolize all flipping markets making entry level flipping more difficult)? I though uncommon chest were amazing but pika packs can do some crazy shit.
>>
>traded Darkrai gx for Groudon ex, steelix ex, mega steelix ex, and magearna ex

Bad trade? I had very little dark type mons to back it up.
>>
>>33443934
darkrai gx goes for 4-5 bus on public. those other cards are chest fodder (1:1) to be honest.

Now this is more speculation on my part: darkrai gx could see a nice price increase since dark nearly autowins vs trevenant barring necrozma nuking and darkrai gx sees play at 4. with expanded hype you can flip darkrai gx to twice its value during peak game activity.
>>
>>33443673

Good partner for golduck pika pack budget? maybe weavile rule of evil to weaken the board then clean up with golduck. 120 then next turn 60 is nice, punishes those lele gx drops. with choice band looking at 210. Po Town can reach 240.

other idea i had was golduck + salazzle. you get 120 + 30 with burn and poison for 150 then choice band makes that 180. po town gets you 210.

bursting balloon gets you 120 + 60 but its easy to play around with things like guzma/field blower.

IT IS NOT. Random functions just generate a random number, they don't do the rest of the work. You still have to write a complete algorithm. Just google "random shuffle array" there are lots of approaches and lots of common mistakes.

People really think programming is magic, that's why we end up with blind believers thinking ptcgo team makes no mistakes.

Standard, 4.
Standard "I threw this together to complete daily challenges and it barely works well enough to do so" probably double that.

I was able to update all of them except Sky Field Raichu. BeedrillAggro misses multiply weedle though, and I'm not sure how well the SolgaleoGX will do without VS Seeker.
Plus nearly anything involving evolution misses level ball. There's no good tool for grabbing Stage1+Basic anymore, just one or the other.

>watching regionals stream
>everyone plays the clock instead of playing the game
>all of this intentionally stalling/not technically stalling but still stalling bullshit like taking 10 seconds to promote a pokemon and looking through discard piles to waste time

so when are they going to fix this shit?
>>
>>33448973
does it matter? why would you need more than one anyways
>>
>>33449040

so we can sell our copies to chumps still playing old meta cards
>>
>>33449028
Reminds me of japanese meta, except they dont have best 2/3 they only play 1 game for the whole match.

I understand games can last very long but winning in time honestly doesnt decide the best deck. I would play sableye/garb in expanded but the game animations eat up so much time that the deck can easily lose to itself.
>>
>>33449028
What if PTCG had a split time limit and used chess clocks? Do you think that would improve it in any way?
>>
>>33449151
Honestly I don't get it.
>>
>>33449151

that would be good, similar to how PTCGO works with 20 minutes per player, but it would be too hard to work outside of online.

There's too many scenarios where your opponent has to make a choice (like escape rope) or shuffle their deck on your turn wasting your clock. Imagine playing an N and the dude shuffles for 60 seconds burning your clock and you can't play your next move until he's done. Stuff like that would get messy.

Hm.
>>
>>33449500
Drop a gard add in galade so you dont auto lose to anti gx. Add an octillery line, its amazing in 1st brigette decks. Choice band is incredible all around for those 1HKO. what does sudowoodo hurt in the meta, Mray already left expanded, skyfield left?

What are you losing to anyways? Even when I play vs volc and they are KOing me since turn 2 and im down on prizes, once I get gard gx i make a comeback, they fail to 1 shot and then I just sweep them from there. Havent ran into salazzle gx however.
>>
>>33449500
Gard needs choice band more than float stone.

What is the sudowoodo supposed to do?

Play more games so you get a better sample size.

How's this? Better?
>>
>>33449929
Looks good. I like the skyla > professors letter tech. try to fit in 1 diance. Vulpix can search lele, diance can evolve remoraid into octillery. sometimes diance/octillery line is prized, so vulpix is a nice 2nd option. I like running 1/1 vulpix/diance. Typically first turnt > lele into brigette. play 2 ralts 1 rem. If i already have those pieces search vuplix/diance and attack with them.

Diance can also heal your pokemon vs the tapu koko promo deck which gives you more time to set up, diance can also help vs espeon/po town spam with its healing.

Not much else to say. If you find yourself losing explain the match up. keep the gamelogs pasted in a note pad.
>>
>>33449881

Niether is Archeops, but that was still banned.

>>
>>33449082
>game animations eat up so much time that the deck can easily lose to itself.
You can turn those to simple in settings, then speed them up further with the cheat engine.
>>
>>33449151
I thought it did.
>>
>>33450042
>Archeops locks half the competitive decks unlike Espeon's attack.
>Implying that combining said said attack with shit like Tapu Koko's Flying Flip and Weavile's Rule of Evil aren't equally as devastating to evolution decks.

Regardless of whether or not it is broken, TPCi has said that they'll actually be investigating what goes on in both formats and promptly ban anything that poses the same issues that FoGP and Archeops did.
>>
>>33450191
2KO attacks wont hurt nobody in this fast meta.
>>
>>33449237
Clock is based on whoever is holding up the game. You'd hit the button every time priority shifts.

Right, and Memephlosion will win Worlds 2018.

I'm still pretty new to this, is this deck a flop?
>>
>>33450182
I just assumed it was a typo. I've yet to see a single deck use ex.
>>
>>33450296
Espeon ex is seeing some play. Things like Po Town, tapu koko promo, Weavile Rule of Evil, Necrozma and even trevenant in expanded make it a viable sweeper/disruption card. But people arent playing 4 copies, they are playing 1.
>>
>>33450292

Should I replace something with a stretcher? Maybe the muscle band?
>>
>>33450292
A lot of 1-ofs. Hope you don't mind prizing any.
Otherwise I'd swap some stuff out for what you'd miss.
>>
>>33450345
It costs about the same as a typhlosion though, right? Like, it's super cheap.
>>
>>33450407

I've only played versus so far, do you actually forfeit some of your cards in tournaments?
>>
>>33450514
No, that'd be stupid.
>>
What's a good deck for Lycanroc-Midnight GX and A-Muk?
I'm new to this so I'm not sure how to build a deck
>>
>>33450292
>>33450372
Pretty bad. Muscle band is expanded only, when you are new start in standard format. If you really want a fighting deck, make a Crabominable deck, 80 damage for 1 fighting energy. strong energy makes that 100. its 1 pika pack (55 tokens in shop) for 4 Crabrawler. Crabominable is 1 pika pack each. can pick up 2 strong energy for 1 pika pack, trade for the newest set strong energy. lycanroc gx bloodthirty eyes can be gotten with a .5 pack.sycamore and N can be gotten with pika packs. Ask 1 pika pack for 2/2 syca/N from the newest set. 1 pika for 4 brooklet hill. Remember to always make your own public trades, searching for a trade will only result in crap overpriced offers.

>>33450418
Its still pretty cheap at this moment. like .5 for RA and 1 pack for FA.

>>33450586
Lycanroc is more of a secondary attacker. people paired it with raichu. can also use zygarde, regirock ex, carbink. Muk GX can be used with hot poison salazzle. 10 + 70 + 70 = 150. Then poison and burn is 10 + 20 for 180. Choice band makes that 210. You have to run devolution spray to spam status.
>>
>>33450514
Gambling laws forbid, that's why MtG removed Antes.
>>
Playing as typhlosion, I've been outsped by Kiawe-TurtonatorGX repeatedly and now stonewalled by GlaceonEX.
I thought the point of this deck was super aggro, it's performing worse than passimian!
>>
Why is every Night March Player so dumb?

Twice today I've had them Hex their own Marshadow thinking they can get over my Aegislash-EX. Once after they attacked into it.
>>
>>33450736
Just sounds like they're misclicking
>>
>>33450736
its a budget deck barring shaymin/computer search. and even without those cards you steam roll most babbies with new player elo, not uncommon to see bad plays like that.

>>33450734
If they go first you have to set up typholosion on te bench and play defensive since they can sweep once they power up with kiawe, thats all decks however not just typholosion. Glaceon is a hard counter for sure, pokemon ranger is the only thing you can do kill it. Or Guzma to hit other cards for prizes. In general you go first, then next turn rare candy and sweep with typholosion. the deck is far from invincible and anything faster than it or can wall it like glaceon is good game. Water box is an example of another fast deck, aqua patch with max elixir can power up an attacker out of nowhere. Typholosion is mainly a budget deck. If you cant set up scoop it up.
>>
>>33450813
I'm having trouble drawing cyndaquil.
So I've not really had a chance to start killing turn2. I keep having to grab it with talonflame.

The one time I did he was setting the turtonator up on the back row, so as soon as I pasted his heatmor he just swept.

>is it still PRAY YOUR CLAN IS RELEASED THIS YEAR: THE TCG game?

Kinda. They've been releasing more support for more clans lately. Sure, the Paladins and Gear Cancer still get more and better support, but things like Spikes, Angel, Granblue and fucking Nubatama are getting support (and it's fucking good, especially Nubatama).

Clans like BT still suffer a lot because they get not-so-good support 1 time per year, suffering from power creep really quickly and falling behind.

>>
>>33453438
Regardless of your choice of Legacy deck, almost any choice benefits from Junk Arms and a couple of Exeggcute. VirGenCel is best deck in format, but probably second most expensive deck in the game after Primal Groudon. TDK, Rayeels, Fluffychomp and Blastoise Keldeo are all solid with varying degrees of consistency. My personal favorite is Weavile Eggs with Smeargle and Sableye, extra supporter per turn and recycling items so easy is great fun, plus the bonus of being a one prize attacker.
